Went for the first time last night. My usual go to french spots are le crocodile, and l’abattoir for reference. What an amazing experience! Zack was great: attentive, very helpful, friendly, but not over bearing. The food was spectacular, we started with escargot and the steelhead tartar. Both phenomenal, the tartar was out of this world. We had the hanger steak and duck for mains. My steak rivaled what I’d expect at the best steakhouses in town, for a quarter the price. Crème Brulee to finish, again great. Drinks were spot on and stiff. This is my new favorite spot in town. Don’t change guys!

Noisy, and disappointing. The food was blah, and small portions. I have eaten better almost everywhere else. Tables packed so close I couldn’t hear my husband speaking to me. I had sweetbreads. Dry and unpleasant. Husband had tasteless lamb chops. Overrated and pricey.

I think this is the best French food restaurant in Vancouver and price is excellent! Keep it up!

Super busy. We didn’t have a reservation so we were seated at the bar, but the bar stools are way more comfy compared to the wooden table chairs. We started with an appie… The florentine… It was pretty good. I had the beef tenderloin topped with mustard butter. I found the dish really flavourful and super delish! We ended up being too full to partake on one of their dessert offerings. Maybe next time! The atmosphere was lively and service was friendly but not overly obsequious. Overall, a very positive experience. Definitely bookmark it for next time!

The is by far hands down the tastiest French fare I have had in my memory. Price point is unbeatable. Service was great. I’m raving about the onion soup, filet with red burgundy shallot reduction, garlic spinach, and potato gratin. This was a quintessential bday dinner planned by my partner. Perfect all around!

Our latest«date night» endeavour. Absolutely delicious. We had a late reservation but the restaurant was chock-full of patrons — always a positive sign. We were greeted warmly and escorted to a lovely window seat. A previous review commented on how tight the seating is. If you’ve ever been to France, cosiness is pretty standard, and I felt that it simply added to the restaurant’s charm. I noticed that the bar was packed as well. Loved the ambiance. The service was perfect. Our server timed everything perfectly, knew when to be present and when to be absent, and was attentive, professional, and kind. The food was fantastic. We started with the charcuterie, which is probably the most delicious bang-for-your-buck board in the city. Delicious cheeses, fresh fruit, walnuts, freshly pickled vegetables and what tasted like homemade preserves were a perfect accompaniment to our wine. For our mains, we ordered the tenderloin with peppercorn sauce and the steelhead. My steak was delicious and tender, the sauce and potatoes were fabulous, but I confess: I should have also ordered the steelhead. The butter sauce was heavenly. Orgasmic. To die for. We both cleaned our plates, and I ended up using the generous complimentary bread to mop up the last of the sauce from the steelhead dish until the plate was spotless. Neither of us care much for sweets so we finished off the evening with an espresso each, which kept us up and reminiscing about this fabulous meal long into the wee hours of the morning. Will definitely be back.

I just came back from a trip to Paris and was having some post-Paris blues so I decided to stop by Les Faux Bourgeois for some French food. The restaurant is very cozy and we were seated by a table near the window. I was quite pleased as I was able to do a little bit of people watching, just like in Europe. To start we had the Salad Nicoise which is salad greens with tuna, olives, capers, sundried tomatoes, egg and I think anchovies. If you’ve never had Salad Nicoise before, I would totally recommend it. I tried it my first time in Paris and one bite of this totally brought me back to my trip. For the entrée I ordered the Hanger Steak with Frites and my friend had the Beef Tenderloin. Both dishes were cooked perfectly. It’s nice to find a place that knows how to cook a piece of meat right. I tried the Mustard Butter for my dish and my friend had the Peppercorn Sauce. While the Mustard Butter was interesting, I would stick with the classic and go for the Peppercorn Sauce next time. My side of fries were also very tasty and came with delicious garlic aioli mayonnaise for dipping. My friend’s beef tenderloin came with a Potato Gratin — this was also very good and reminded me of scalloped potatoes piled on top of each other like lasagna. To end the night we shared the Poached Pear Tart. This dish was okay, I would probably try something different next time. And yes, there will definitely be a next time.

I came here a few weeks ago for a steak dinner, the night before my wisdom teeth removal(a «last supper» of sorts!) Food is good. Especially the steak. Less saltier than the steak at Jules but equally as tender. The mustard butter was something I’ve never had before and would definitely recommend. One of the specials of the night was a seafood pot with toasted crustini bread — we found this dish to be our least favourite of the night. The French onion soup was hearty, a tad bit too runny, but packed full of flavour. The featured mushroom tartes flambees was also good but not the type of tart I was expecting(imagine a sheet of puff pastry with toppings on a bed of salad, see pic below) Service is a hit or miss, our empty plates sat at our table for a while before it was eventually cleared.

All of the yes! If there was an option of 4.5 stars, that would be my rating — because no where is perfect, but this little bistro sure does a consistently grand job. My guy and I have made a few visits here so far and all of them have been positive: good food and wine, good service. We’ve been a combination of fortunate and flexible with our dinner times — and enjoyed being served at a table and at the bar. Only critique is the super cosiness — it’s a small space with a lot of tables, it’s a given that the people at the next table will hear all of your conversation. Looking forward to our next semi-spontaneous visit.

I used to come here regularly to get my fix of some classic French bistro fare. The food is very good here, I must admit! It tastes very authentic. I really like the duck confit, cassoulet, French onion soup, and escargots. Haven’t really had a bad dish here. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience with service here once. I was with some(bilingual) friends and there was a portable fan blowing right into our faces. So we asked the server if he could position it a bit differently, and he said he couldn’t. Then he mixed up our orders and as he was placing one of the dishes down, he elbowed one of my friends with no word of an apology. We then heard him talking about us in French to another staff member but he didn’t know we could understand him. At this point, we were ready to leave so we got our bills. But before we left, we spoke with the manager and told him we spoke French and could understand what the server was saying. He apologized profusely and gave us a gift certificate for our next visit, but unfortunately that experience kind of ruined the place for me and I haven’t been back since. It’s too bad since it’s a pretty good restaurant!

Delightful and authentic French dining experience — food, service, ambiance, price… all great! This restaurant is located in a hip neighbourhood just a 10-minute cab ride from downtown Vancouver and worth the trek if you think that’s a trek. It’s been open for a number of year’s now and we’ve been regular customers that are never disappointed. We’re proud that they’ve got«staying power» and love that they are still as popular now as they were upon opening. Know that the only frustrating thing is getting in and that reservations can be week’s out at peak times. They always have at least one vegetarian dish on the menu too.

Great dining experience again but was a little disappointed with the item that I ordered. Again, service was top notch where our server was so on top of things. He did his job with ease where not only was he attentive but super polite and personable. The item that I got was the scallop risotto. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t as good as the other items that I’ve ordered here. The risotto rice was a little undercooked and the risotto sauce wasn’t cheesy at all. The portion for this meal was also very small. I could have eaten it all within seven large bites. My husband’s steak frites on the other hand was delicious and a hearty portion. The funny thing was that my meal was more pricy than his. I know that scallops are usually more expensive but for four scallops and some below par risotto did not justify paying $$ for. I didn’t think it was a good deal and regretted not ordering the salmon. The garlic spinach and crème brûlée was delicious as usual.

I like this restaurant because the waiters all seem to have real French accents. In addition, their food comes at a great price for great portions. In the handful of times that I have visited this restaurant, it is almost always packed to the brim. I’d advise you to make reservations if possible. In the most recent visit, I tried some dishes I had never tried before; these were onion soup, duck confit and steak. Their wine is also ‘on point’. The wine glasses had a generous pour. Thumbs up. The onion soup was so hot, fresh, onion-y and gooey :). I love cheese and this soup definitely fixed the onion+cheese craving. So hearty. The duck confit had a crispy outside, which took me by surprise because the photos didn’t really look like it would be so. It was a nice surprise and delectable, the crisp is not harsh, it harmonizes with the juicy tender duck meat quite well. The steak was a solid portion, although a tad salty for my liking, it was tender and meaty. It’s a nice place for a romantic date, a small family outing, friend catch up. Add it to your list if you have not been ;)

Just amazing food. Amazing service. I’m writing this review a little bit late to be honest. But I was reminded of how delicious the food and ingredients are. Would have been five stars, but the tables I found a little too close. So when is loud and busy, it will feel crowded.

Finally had a chance to try the food here. I ordered the veal shank parmentier and my cousin had the steak. The veal shank parmentier had spinach and mushrooms at the bottom layer, with the veal ragout laying in the middle and gratinee purée(mash potatoes) at the very top. The veal ragout was slow cooked so it had a pulled pork texture and had a very rich beefy taste to it. The veal was soft and the purée potatoes and spinach compliments the taste really well when you take a bite with all of it at the same time. A very delicious dish and something a little different than the steak. Although my cousin really liked the hanger steak as well. Service was good. We sat in the other room because the main dining room was full. The seats were a little bit tight but you can argue that it also makes it more intimate and cozy. Will definitely be back again!

We went for dinner on a Friday night and it was packed full. We reserved the place for 7.30PM and the table was only available at 7.50. This, by the way, is after they made a mistake in placing our reservation. We were supposed to come here a week earlier but they somehow booked us for the following week. They definitely need better management. However, their food is worth the wait. I shared a Soupe À L’oignon Gratinee for appetizer and it’s the best French onion soup I ever tasted. For the main, I personally ordered their Canard Confit and it was delicious. The meat was tender and fell off the bone, the sauce was delicious and the use of goat cheese for the salad was just right. Not too much that it’s overpowering but enough to give it a kick. I also tried their Le Steak Frites, cooked medium rare. They definitely know how to cook their steak. Their Crème brûlée was good, not the best I had but definitely good. My bill came to be $ 30, which I think is a steal for French food with this quality. As for service, despite the wait and the reservation mix-up, the staff was friendly and efficient. I never have to ask for water to be filled, they always top it up right away. To sum up, the food and the service is 5 star, enough for me to forgive the wait. However, I felt like they overbooked the place since the table given to us felt quite cramped and we had one person cancellation.

This is a romantic French restaurant but it is still a good place to hang out with friends. My friends and I ordered French onion soup, salad, mussels with frites and hanger steak with frites. It’s just the steak that tasted a little bit too salty. Everything else tasted great. Frites were so good that my friends and I had to pack the leftover home that we didn’t want to waste them. The service was excellent. The restaurant was busy, so we expected to wait for a little bit longer. The waiter was very polite, explained what the restaurants had on their special menu, and checked if we needed anything during the meal. I would definitely love to come back for lunch or dinner. Their prices are reasonable. They also have good service and good food. *LIKE*

This place was recommended as a must try by my foodie buddies in Vancouver. Having lived in France for a while, I have pretty high expectations when it comes to French food and this place did not disappoint. The minute we walked in, it smelled of a proper French Bistro — with the smell sauces and herbs wafting through the air. My companions normally don’t eat blood sausage but they devoured it here. The Moules Frites were lovely(so plump and just the right amount of flavor and consistency). Dishes were well cooked albeit applying some nouvelle cuisine flavors in some sauces. It was a good meal, would definitely recommend it
