Great place for a «home-cooked» meal on Saturdays and Sundays. Sundays are the best when they have their fried chicken + chilli sauce, but i also love their curry too. The price is super cheap, only $ 10.00 for all you can eat + coffee /tea + dessert. I think my favorite part each time that I come back is the hot coconut milk /bean dessert(I forgot what it’s called!). I wish i had a second stomach just so I can fill up on the dessert! When I came back on a wednesday night to have dinner with a friend, they were CLOSED! How random! Maybe it was my fault for not checking the hours, but wouldn’t anyone think that a restaurant would be open at around 5:30pm on a Wednesday? Oh well, lesson learned. Tip: you’re only allowed to stay for 1 hour when it gets really busy, so keep that in mind and get your money’s worth of food! In general, even though the hours are kind of weird, I’m still pretty satisfied with the food. Also, the servers are really friendly: ask you how you’re doing, if you need anything, and they’re always willing to share more info about the food you’re eating and who cooks it. It’s really nice and comforting!

Delicious food, friendly staff & exceptional value make up for the lack of ambiance in this $ 10.50 all-day home-cooked Malaysian buffet. They generally have 2 meat dishes that you can eat over rice or noodles, soup & salad, dessert and coffee & tea. Many Vancouver restaurants can learn a lesson here. This place isn’t stylish but it’s delicious and I only drop by periodically when I’m in the area but each time the staff has been super friendly. Customer service goes a long way. I route for businesses like this.

Kedah House has recently went through a series of price and operational hour changes. Their website says they are open 11:30 — 2:30 for lunch on Wednesday and Thursdays, but that is no longer the case. The are open for dinner Wed-Thursdays and all day Fridays — Sundays. Went on a Friday for their lunch buffet which is now bounced back down to $ 9.99. I have to say that with each subsequent visit, I am less and less impressed, which is too bad because I think this place has promise and has friendly and genuine owners. –gado gado salad ingredients are fresh, peanut sauce is tasty, although a bit watery — rice was a flavoured yellow fragant biyrani rice — fried noodles are now spaghetti, instead of the more traditional rice vermicelli noodles — beef rendang no longer has the aroma of lemon grass or coconut milk — fried chicken no longer available, but the chicken curry was tender and had a good amount of spiciness, lemongrass and flavour — tom yum soup tasty I kept hearing the server who was chatting up a customer say that the price of food has gone up and that it is hard to maintain more variety on the buffet table; however, it also goes the other way in that if the food isn’t interesting or tasty enough to attract customers and returning customers, then the business also suffers. Just my opinion, but don’t be afraid to charge more for the buffet to cover the cost of making the beef rendang creamier with the addition of coconut milk, bring back the rice noodles, sambal eggs and some tasty fried fish appie. Then I will happily come back for more :)

Great food. Very little variety though. What they did serve tasted great. Atmosphere and décor is laaaaaaaaaacking!!! Eat all you can in one hour for $ 9.99 … Loved the beef brisket … But you can only eat so much of it … I wish they had more different dishes to choose from

I agree with other reviewers, great food and great price but lack atmosphere and varieties. Although chicken soup only had ginger and green onions, it was good. Fried chicken, Beef Rendang and Gadogado Salad were delicious. Rice was delicious and reminded me of Hainanese Chicken Rice. They also have free coffee and tea. Coffee was so delicious, and owner said it’s regular coffee. It was $ 10.50 for lunch buffet and the price was unbeatable. Too bad no roti canai at the buffet.

Buffet was small but good: beef rendang, fried chicken, noodles, and build your own gado gado. And a good deal at $ 9.99. Includes tea.

Chalk another one up for Unilocal reviewers. This place is a gem and definitely deserves another review. Everything that was offered tasted excellent. The only down side is perhaps the options that are available. For lunch though, it’s definitely good enough. A note to noobs, grab a seat and then get up and start eating. When you’re done, go up to the cashier and pay. Remember, it’s cash only.

We were visiting Vancouver and we told ourselves we have to come and try the food here. Not a wide spread of food but it us good enough for us. They serve buffet style. The day we came they have soup, beef rendang, chicken curry, egg sambal, gado gado or rojak, salad, fried mee hoon and rice. Dessert kuih bakar and free flow of tea and coffee. We love their beef rendang. Tender and very flavorful. The rest were pretty good too. The owner is a very friendly guy and we chat a little bit. All the food were cooked by his wife who hail from Kedah. With the price of $ 9.99 I think it is a great deal. I don’t think you can find price like this for an authentic Malaysian meal.

This place is like the typical Asian restaurant trying to pass as authentic ______to the Caucasian diners in Vancouver. They appear to be a staff of Tamil speaking owners, which is a good sign if you’re looking for some legit Malay food. But if you’re looking here for legit Malay food, you best turn around and go to Banana Leaf or anywhere else. Everything is plain gross, but I have very high standards for great Malay food having been to Malaysia and some of the top Malay restaurants in GVRD(Tropika, Banana Leaf, etc.)

Dinner buffet is now $ 12.40. They cranked the price. Boo. Fortunately, the food is still as awesome as I remember from 2011.

Most Authentic Malaysian Cuisine in Vancouver I had the pleasure of dining their food a few years ago at a friend’s engagement party, when she used Kedah House as an exclusive caterer. She was Malaysian-Chinese, born in Malaysia, so when she said it’s the best and most authentic in Vancouver. I better believe it. I have been an on-going customer for about 2 years. They make an awesome Beef Rendang, Malaysian Fried Chicken, Gadoo Gadoo, and an awesome house-made peanut sauce, which is awesome. Their buffets serves about 10 items, so don’t expect variety. But where they fall short on, they make it up with high quality food. They make a wicked Beef Rendang and Fried Chicken(which they only serve on Sunday). They also have a Black Bean dessert as well, and serves Malaysian coffee, which is quite different from drip coffee that we know. They serve buffet everyday now, as oppose to Friday to Sunday in the past. The cost was $ 9.99 per person, but now is $ 12.45/person, which is still of great value. The restaurant is kept very casual, nothing fancy. They even provide a pitcher of ice water at every table. Which is awesome, as I prefer to be self-serve than wave for a waiter to refill my glass. Try it if you’ve never tried it. It’s an awesome experience that won’t hurt your wallet.

As always, the food selection is limited. But it’s always good. I love the Sunday menu best as it’s deep fried chicken. Much better than KFC and it’s all you can eat. If you like KFC, then come on Sunday. Note that prices have increased slightly to $ 12.40 + tax which comes to a total if $ 13. Also, now you have to pay before eating. I guess there has been way too many dine and dash customers. No more debit and credit. Only cash now. You really can’t find much fault with the price and limited but good food. I’ve been coming to this restaurant for the last 6 yrs or so. Check it out.

Small selection but I like the food. Beef rendeng is so tender. Me goreng is delicious too. They have one special dish each say and the best ive come across is the spicy chicken. I eat way too much when I come here. Downside is that they’ve resorted to all you can eat only. No more menu items which is sad because we used to love the sweet and sour fish. Service is ok. Come during the busy hours when the food is fresh and they keep refilling.

We had the buffet and all the options tasted good albeit there were not a lot of options, but for 9.99 you can’t expect a massive spread. They should work on refilling things faster, and improving the ambiance, but they’ve got the food right. The most important thing.

‘Twas a Sunday afternoon. 2 Malaysian families met up at Kedah House for lunch. As we try our best to find fault with this place, we must not lose sight of the fact that we are only paying a mere $ 10 for an AYCE buffet. The exterior is not impressive, and it does not get better when you step inside. Do not bother waiting to be seated. Pull up a chair and grab a plate. It’s self-service or no-service here! I am not entirely sure if the buffet selection changes from time to time, but this is what we got today: 1. White rice — cooked with chicken stock 2. Beef Rendang 3. Fried Chicken 4. Egg in Sambal sauce 5. Fried Bee Hun(rice vermicelli) 6. Gado-gado — shredded lettuce, cucumber slices, tomato, bean sprouts, dried banana slices, fried tofu pieces and satay(peanut) sauce. 7. Pulut hitam — black glutinous rice dessert soup 8. Coffee and Tea Although the selection may not be impressive, but let us remind ourselves that we are only paying $ 10 for this AYCE buffet. We thought the Beef Rendang was quite nice. Can I get a ‘Hallelujah!’ for the Fried Chicken!!! We must have polished(easily) 2 whole chickens!!! I had lots of fried tofu pieces with their heavenly satay sauce. Yes, I said ‘heavenly’! The pulut hitam was so popular, they had run out of it before I could get a bowl for myself. I did get a taste of it and *HOLYSWEETNESS*! In case we have forgotten, let us say it again: TENDOLLARS. ALLYOUCANEAT. Amen. There is really little room for complaint. There was a seating time limit of 1.5 hours, but we were there for 4. I don’t suppose the owners enjoyed that very much. Had there been more people this Sunday afternoon, we’d have been asked to leave! In all fairness, we were only eating for the first 2 hours and chatting the rest of the time. Bottomline: Very Good for $ 10

For all southeast Asians looking for authentic Malaysian food, this place definitely hits the spot! Last trip to Vancouver we discovered this spot and was completely satisfied with how real the food was. I’ve been dreaming of this place ever since. While the buffet food is amazing, I wish they had more choices for all the foods I miss back home. I shall be content with the hot soup, mee goreng, nonya chicken. Hopefully next time they will have kueh!

For a such a highly hated restaurant on Unilocal,I am very disappointed with my experience last week at Kedah House. For $ 9.99, I felt ripped off by what was served. Here’s my two cents: — The buffet had limited selection of food. Essentially they have gado gado, sambal telur(chilli egg), rendang, fried chicken, mi goreng(fried noodles), soup, and pulut hitam for dessert. That’s it. I’d get a better deal at an Indian buffet with selections I could hardly count with ten fingers and still pay less than what I paid here. — On a Sunday, they were extremely slow at keeping the buffet trays filled. In fact, they were low on food for most of the time and I found many people waiting way too long for food unnecessarily. — There were NOSIGNS on the buffet trays; I am Malaysian and I could hardly tell what are they serving. Sorry for you non Malaysian folks who had to try and guess what you’re eating. Allergies? Good luck to you. — Service? What service? No one greeted us when we entered the restaurant and no one filled up our water glasses. The only contact with the owners is when you ring the bell for service at their counter and pay for your meal. — The buffet trays were very dirty and the crock pot with pulut hitam looked horrendous. I had reservations trying out the dessert at first. But if you didn’t, you did not miss anything. — The food lacked flavour in general. Soup was bland, chicken was mostly quite bony and rendang was overly sweet albeit its tenderness. The best I had last week was their plain rice, seriously. You could clearly tell from what they serve they do not pay much attention to their food. — My biggest problem with this place is the food safety. All food were lukewarm; Cold food for example the salad for gado gado was not cold enough and warm food like the rendang was not hot enough. All warm food must be kept at 60 Celcius and above in order for it to be food-safe. The rendang that just came out of the kitchen were not warm as well. If this continues, this place is going to make their customers sick. I don’t understand why this place can be in business in the city of Vancouver? The location is quite odd, not the kind of place I would usually find a restaurant. I would not come here anyways if I were you, only if you enjoyed all the above. I really wish I could say something good but it’s just not the best $ 9.99 I’ve never spend.

As a Gado-Gado craving hankered, I knew I had to return to this place. Arriving at around 7:30pm, it was quite busy. Again, they have a build your own Gado-Gado station. Of course, I was all over the peanut sauce. Ground up peanuts, a bit sweet, a bit spicy, oh so delicious! The beef rendang, sambal egg, and they also had a roast chicken that was tender and flavourful which was also the highlight of the night. The rice was also cooked with the chicken stock and went well with everything. I ended off the meal with some black glutinous rice sweet soup. The coconut milk, the sweetness, such a great end to the meal! All this for $ 9.99…it’s really too good to be true.

We should go here more often. I’m serious. Someone should remind me. My partner and I live so close to this place I could literally roll down the hill from my front door and be there. Of course rolling home uphill after a big feed might not be such an easy task. But if worse comes to worst, I can just move in here. Buffet nights are a great option. Lots of delicious foods. Make your own Gado-Gado. Pic: Gado-Gado: Cucumber, lettuce, sprouts, plantain chips, fried tofu, boiled potato, boiled eggs, and peanut sauce. Mine was delicious except I forgot the boiled eggs. *cries* Also, there should be a flyer distributed to local restaurants warning them of my love for deep fried chicken wings. I love them, doesn’t matter what kind and the ones they have are crispy outside, juicy inside and not too seasoned to overpower the wonderful taste of the chicken itself. Beef rendang and Mi goreng were two more of my favourite dishes. Great food, and they are friendly too.
