Kitschy decorations, loud death metal, and unique brunch offerings here at Jackaloupes! I would usually take another star away since the music volume was almost deafening but since I was having a profanity laced private conversation(not really sure that this crowd would care), I appreciated it! I had the meat and eggs and it was«just enough». I’m sure that someone with a bigger(or normal!) sized appetite would like to add on another side of meat. Food was good but service was a little spotty. Cornbread was a little stale but brisket was delicious! Would come back if I was craving brunch in the area.

I have never had a bad meal here, the service is awesome, music rocks, atmosphere is terrific, and beer variety is great and reasonable. Highly recommended, but you have to like loud music

Well HO-LEE. What an awesome place. I have lived in the hood for a year and finally made it in here. How many visits have I wasted at the Slocan? No more. They are pretty chill here, but they care. Goes a long way. If tattoos frighten you, then I guess you should stay away, but if you couldn’t care less and exteriors don’t fool you — you will love it! I sure did. The beers on tap are great and I heard the food is top notch(from that teeny weeny kitchen!) Going with my three kids for brunch to find out for myself. Can’t wait. Seriously — so awesome. Next day: had brunch. Fantastic delicious, such good quality. Cheaper than most places. Loooooove

This is a place with character and lots of it! Stopped by on Sunday… like finally. Been having this place bookmarked before I even Unilocaled. To my disappointment, as I stepped in I felt so out of place. By the service and by the diners. Literally everyone there had tattoos, multiple piercings and aren’t Asian. Took quite a while before we were acknowledged and given a seat at the bar table facing outside. With our backs towards them I doubt we’d get any service if any at all. Waited for a bit longer and we flagged someone down for the menu. Waited again for our orders to be taken(during the duration of time we even requested to be seated at a table that got freed). The servers seemed more content AFTER we ordered some drinks. We initially wanted to order chicken and waffles but they were out. Instead we got the meat & eggs and Skillet Hash with pulled pork. I was not asked whether I wanted poached or scrambled eggs nor was I asked if I wanted cornbread or rye bread. Luckily what they gave me was what I would have chosen(poached and cornbread). The food came after 45 minutes which we started to grow impatient. The food was good, no doubt about that. But dining out is based on the overall experience so good food can’t compensate for the long wait and somewhat unwelcoming service.

Ok now this will be my go-to breakfast place though kinda depends on my mood and where I am, just went to Medina recently too. Anyways I digress. Ordered the skillet with kale, mushrooms, corn, caramelized onions, green onions and tons of cheese. And if that wasn’t enough goodness, the fruit waffles are incredible, especially at this price point. Nero’s would be embarrassed lol. Easy repeat. If you’re a pet lover, you’ll love the wallpaper in their washroom lol. A bit noisy for anything intimate but a happening place.

This place was a total surprise to me! We originally came to this area to check out a tattoo shop and they just happened to be next door. We came in for lunch and it was quite busy but we managed to get a table faster than we expected. The place was small and clean. I loved the artistic-rock vibe and the atmosphere. I ordered for their beef brisket. It came with eggs, biscuit and side veggies. It was very flavourful and just delicious! I wish the serving was a bit bigger though. I also had a bite of their smoky, fall off the bone goodness ribs and it was as yummy! I can’t wait to come back and try other meals! Service was fast and all the staff were nice and friendly. Now this is what you call Southern hospitality, Vancouver style!

Atmosphere… quirky and original. Music… a little heavy, but warranted(you’ll understand when you get there). Service… very friendly and never overbearing. Food… we had ribs and brisket and cornbread served in a cast iron skillet. All fantastic. And the sides need mentioning… mashed potatoes like your gran used to make, perfectly seasoned rice and beans. Yum. Skillet chocolate chip cookie… fuggeddaboudddit. And finally, the prices are very fair and they best washroom wall art in the city. We’ll be back. Thank you.

The food in this joint is awesome. Everything is cooked fresh out of their tiny kitchen. Great atmosphere and good rock music pumping all hours of the day. Decent drink prices too.

Friend and I found out our regular haunt for steak wasnt open from the Christmas holidays we decided to give Jackalope’s a try again after having not been there in over a year. The food was good but the music was so loud I couldnt hear what my friends were saying. This time around the food was consistently as good! Im a huge fan of the ribs, house salad and corn bread. I was able to «tolerate» the music due to having had a few Tipsy Palmers this time around. I recommend if you are a fan of metal music this is a great place for you and if not you might not care for it!

Do yourself a favour and have the«Beef Back», a shot of smooth rye with an au jus chaser. I was skeptical at first and then kept them coming. All of the food is so good. The ribs and the chicken are amazing. Hearty food and cheap drinks, great atmosphere.

Delicious and friendly neighborhood brunch spot. Try the lavender lemonade, made with local ingredients!

I almost don’t want to write a review because I don’t want too many people to find out about this place :) We simply LOVE Jackalopes! We love the atmosphere, the local beer, and the food. As a vegan, I really appreciate when I can get something other than salad or veggie burger for food. Their brunch is awesome as well.

Why wait in line at Red Wagon when this is across the street! Whimsical meets hard rock with a little Leonard Skinnard to set the mood. Original menu with a contemporary southern twist. Good service, good food and clean.

Mother of three from Coquitlam here — I decided to come to this restaurant because I am trying to connect more with my eldest son. Alex is a great kid, but he is really into the metal. I read online that this establishment was a «dive» but in a good way? While the concept is foreign to me, I thought it would be great to step out of my comfort zone(hehe). Anyway…from the moment we were seated at our table the service was very, very bad. The waitress seemed to think that we were a burden and not paying customers! The music was also very loud and quite distracting(very un-Christian, as well). The waitress seemed as if she was really busy as she frantically ran about the empty restaurant all the while ignoring me. When she brought me a re-fill of my soda, she all but threw it at the table. I would never be treated this way at Earls! On top of it all, the food was not very good at all. The quality of chicken was poor, and the flavour was minimal. MOREOVER, when my son was eating his salad(The Big Princess Salad) he noticed a small worm crawling in the leafy greens. I urged him to stop, but he insisted that eating the insect was«metal» and continued on. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this establishment.

this place has potential! Food is great! Beer sucks. Horrible music… unless you’re into loud noise death metal which for me does not create a laid back pub feel. change the music and bring in some tasty brews and i’ll definitely be back more often!

Came here on a Wednesday evening and had to wait 15 minutes before we got a table. After we were seated we ordered our drinks and food. The server came back to inform us they were out of the beer we wanted and they were also out of mussels. Oh well, it happens. For food we ordered the nachos and mac and cheese. The nachos were fantastic, and I was shocked at the massive portions. The mac and cheese was meh. It made me wish I could’ve tried the mussels instead. I would come back again solely for the nachos. The service was bad. It took a very long time for our food to arrive and we felt pretty much invisible after that. The server never came by to check up or to offer to refill our drinks when they were empty. Maybe that’s their way of becoming a self-proclaimed dive bar?

I’ve been wanting to come here for awhile and I am stoked I did. We got the pulled pork sliders which were on point. The braised beef brisket was so tender and juicy, holy smokes. Let me tell you something, as thick cut as it was you wouldn’t expect it to melt in your mouth but it did. I got the skillet fried chicken. It was bitchin! So good, it made me go back to the 90s where I used the word bitchin a lot. It came with some yummy veggies, kale, broccoli, green beans and mushrooms. And I got the red beans and rice which was Chili on top of rice. Everything was cooked beautifully and piping hot. Make sure to put on your big boy/girl pants on. The portions are slightly generous. I only ate half of my food. So as you can tell I left my big girl pants at home today. If you don’t like this place, I dunno, you’re probably weird. The décor was right up my alley and the music was good. It was a full house too, good little spot they got there. I’m definitely going back. The service was great too. Justin is the best.

Jackalope’s has really quickly turned into my favourite neighbourhood hangout. I swear, I’m there at least once a week. I used to sit at the Bruce Springsteen table every time it was available until some jerk stole his photo! My favourite things are the cheapo house wine and tipsy palmers(seriously get this drink.), the nachos(I would go as far as saying I like them as much as the ones at the Foundation. For real.), the beet salad is fantastic, and so is the portobello sandwich. I’ve also tried the mac n cheese skillet, the vegan breakfast skillet, seared grits n gravy, and the cornbread. Those are all great too. The décor is awesome too. Nice and dark with taxidermy, bones, metal gig posters, a giant kitten rug on the back wall, and some local artists have their stuff up on the walls too.

Pretty good food here, at a somewhat decent price. Parking is available along Hastings in the evenings, after rush hour. The place is quite dimly lit. There is a really cute mounted jackalope on the wall. I had a good laugh. The food is quite tasty. I had the crispy chicken skillet($ 15). Decent taste. Reminds me of the Capital, and Chewie’s. My only complaint is that they used plain rice on the side(like what you’d find in a Chinese restaurant). Would’ve been nice if the dish came with rice pilaf instead. 3.5 stars. Will definitely be back to try some more skillets.

Do you like loud music, quirky décor and really good, reasonably priced food? Then make haste to this East Hasting Street«dive.»(In case you’re wondering what a jackalope is, it’s a mythical cross between a jackrabbit and an antelope, or a bunny with antlers. There, I saved you a Google.) Now, everybody and her dog serves pulled pork sammiches/sliders, but Jackalope’s are something special. Pro tip: if your date gets the beef brisket dip, let your slider take a dip too. It’s like two meats in one! Bonus points for the bathroom covered in poodle– and cat-headed collage. I like my goth like this, with a wink and smile.
