Il Mercato

I’m a sucker for farmer’s markets and cultural events (such as Greek Days or Italian Days), so was very interested to check this out.
Il Mercato happens one Friday a month from May to Novemeber in the parking lot of the Ilalian Cultural Centre (Slocan and Grandview).
Basically it is a small version of the standard farmer’s market with more focus on baking and olive oil, and less on farmer’s veggies.
If you bike home along the CVG or are popping into Rona, it is worth a stop,. get a cannolli ant Cannolli King or pick-​up some veg and listen to a performer.
However, and I hate saying this,. there is one thing NOT to do. Like many of the ethnic themed markets there are some locals that cook up for example: lamb shoulder for Greece, or Perogies for the Ukraine. In this case, the older Italian ladies (that should know better!) make the worst pasta since I was 19 and had just moved from my parent’s house and didn’t know how to cook. $ 14 gets you horrible generic pasta, and a disgusting sausage — don’t do it. If you want to donate to the Italian Cultural centre,. find another way.
