This restaurant made me fall in love with raw veggan foods. All the foods here are very delicious and healthy. So no reason to go to other restaurant. Especially I love Newdle.

Love this place, you just feel good after eating these tasty meals. It is on the pricey side though which seems typical for healthy foods in vancouver. One of my pet peeves. Since in California, the healthy meals are cheap and equivalent to McDonald’s. People can eat so much healthier for the same price as greasy horrible meals at fast foo joints. The smoothies are amazing here but you can easily make them at home o I font recommend it here. I love their nyce bowls and the burger but gotta warn you it’s a better place during summer since it’s raw food, all dishes are cold so if you are looking for warm comfort food, this is not the place. I came here with a friend of mine who constantly raved about the smoothies and milkshakes you can buy here. I really like fruit smoothies, and am a particular fan of the strawberry banana smoothie from McDonalds(please don’t judge me!). The storefront itself leaves a lot to be desired. It’s hidden in the basement next to Macleod’s Bookstore, but the entrance is easily found by the signboard outside. It’s dimly lit, small, and only offers a few tables. However, the staff more than make up for it when you go up to order at the counter. I opted for the Strawberry Fields smoothie, which had strawberries, banana, orange juice, and hemp seeds for $ 6.25. The smoothie itself was the size of a smoothie you would get at Booster Juice, and it was super delicious! I had to stop myself from drinking it all in less than a minute. I would definitely come back here just for the smoothies. My friend let me try her Choco-Gorilla milk shake(contains almonds, cacao, bananas, dates, coconut oil, and hemp seeds) and it was great too! We also shared the Dips and Chips for $ 10, which comes with a large serving of salsa, guacamole, and a mixture of ginger nori, tomato herb flax, and veggie chili«chips». The salsa and guacamole are fantastic! It was great to actually get enough dip to enjoy all of the chips, that is very rare at a lot of establishments! I also really liked the tomato herb flax chips. Overall, Gorilla Food delivers absolutely fantastic smoothies and milk shakes. I will definitely be back.

This was spot on to a raw vegan restaurant. I was very impressed with the food and its presentation. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was cozy. Only if I could eat here daily, but must return home: D

A friend of mine started a new job in the area and she asked me to come down and meet her for lunch. After searching on Unilocal I decided on Gorilla Foods. It’s a 2 minute walk for my friend and it got a 4 star rating! Let’s give it a try. Sadly we were both disappointed with Gorilla Food! I tried the Strawberry Fields smoothie and the pesto pizza. The smoothie was excellent! Rich and very flavorful! But the pizza was nowhere close to being good. I know if any vegans read this I’m going to get lambasted, but I did not like the pizza. The pizza had a buckwheat crust. It tasted like cardboard. It was cold and extremely bland! In the end we both ate what we could and ended up going to a Blends in the area so we could get some edible food! Sorry but I’m not coming back to Gorilla Food in the near future!

GOTOTHISPLACE. You pay a bit more here for your food and it’s super worth it. All raw options and the menu is great listing all the ingredients. Wear layers because this place gets HOT even in the winter. Help yourself to water and utensils and try the key lime pie. Key lime pie is the last thing NGF would usually choose for dessert but now she will travel from afar to eat it at Gorilla foods.

I really, really wanted to love this place. but it was just alright. My mom and I came here when we were visiting Vancouver. I currently don’t eat a strict raw vegan diet but I used to, although I am still vegan and LOVE raw foods. Wasn’t too impressed by the ambiance, the décor, music when we first walked in but figured we’ll give it a try. The food was actually not bad when it finally arrived but simple and boring. I am a chef myself and love cooking, I found this raw food sort of boring and plain. I might be spoiled from living in LA for years, where I spent a fair amount of time eating at wonderful raw vegan restaurants. Oh, and I also don’t mind reggae music but I also don’t enjoy listening to smoking ganja while eating. Oh and the vitamix or whatever they use, super loud! To sum my experience up: if you are looking for a quick bite, don’t mind a dated little restaurant in the«basement», plain raw food, listening to people singing about smoking weed come here. The service was great and everyone was super friendly. Not bad just not great.

Yes im here eating vegan! What next? I eould never have found this place if myYelp friends didnt show my the way. Its downstairs, and has a great Seattle feel. Lots of natural wood, nice curved service counter of a hearty log. A brick wall on one side and an burnt orange wall on your right as you enter. I had the Main Street Monkey which looked amazing. Lots of nice layers, if i could make one suggestion, it would be slices of Avacado in the sandwich and a little less sprouts. You can look at a store copy of the Gorrila food cookbook while you wait for your food. Which is nice. The food is alive and you feel great after eating here.

I was in Vancouver for a yoga teacher training weekend. Literally the only thing I did was train, eat, train, sleep, repeat for 3 days. One of the girls recommended Gorilla Food [raw/organic/vegan] for lunch. WOW! I never knew how much you could do with raw food. Amazing. Delicious. The hardest part is choosing what to order and eat. I ordered the Veggie pizza. So delicious, I could eat this all the time. I ordered a green smoothie, can’t remember which one, only complaint is that I wish it was a bit colder. I also ordered a goodie bag for the road trip back across the boarder. I asked for a variety of the dessert treat snacks. THEYARESOYUMMY. I am sold on Gorilla Food, if I had this in my city I would eat here regularly. The staff here is wonderful too, full of knowledge and advice/recommendations. The atmosphere is pretty cool, jungle feeling. You walk down to a basement level, small but cozy.

I. Love. Hippy. Food. All flavors, colors, shapes, sizes(though preferably, large) — if it’s vegan and kind of weird(dried hemp crackers that look like mulch? Yes please.), chances are that I will happily snarf it down. After spending the morning biking around The Couv, we had worked up an appetite and made the trek to the new Gorilla location(kind of on the edge of Chinatown — random) — if you’re an ambiance person, Gorilla will not do it for you — bare bones cement flooring, lacquered plywood tables… and I think that’s it — roll in, order at the counter, and they bring you the food. Menu ranges form collard green wraps/sandos filled w all sorts of veggies/hummies/tapenades to unreal salads(10lbs of chopped veg, olives, hummy, avocado, sprouts, almonds), veggie burgers, «pasta and pizzas» and raw soups — plus vegan desserts + no-milk shakes. You’ll spend what you expect at a place like this — my salad was $ 14 + $ 3 for a fairly large size of zucchini hummy(enough that if I was a quitter, I def wouldn’t have finished, but since I’m not, it all went in my tum) — and veggie burgers are $ 10. For the burger, you’ll need more food. It’s three thin/small patties w lettuce/fillings — but unless you’re having it as an appetizer, or have a petite appetite, it won’t be enough. Though we were there at off-hours(2p-ish), the other foodstuffs I saw being consumed looked pretty sweet — a tower of no-cheese, no-pasta«lasagna» looked like a dream, and the«pizza» on a nut crust also looked fantastic. On that note, as you can imagine, lots of nuts are used to up the fat content/hold things together, so if you have an allergy, it’s going to be a struggle, though probably not totally impossible. Also, if you’re in the market for cocoa nibs, goji berries, dried mulberries… or a food dehydrator — they have a small selection of ingredients for sale that make it easy to be all crunchy at home too. Prices aren’t cheap, but this stuff never it. You have to pay to be this pretentious, duh. Would I take a devoted carnivore who categorically rejects all things veg? No. Would I take any of my friends/parents/grandmother? Probably yes — which might say more abt how much they tolerate me rather than their love for«ryce» made of veg and seeds — but regardless, Gorilla is a minor victory for vegan food, though not a total slam dunk. Salt/tamari/nutritional yeast could have been used for aggressively, and the price to portion ratio for some of their items could be reworked. That said, if traveling w vegans — go.

I have some mixed feelings about this place. Food-wise it is great. You should taste it to believe how good raw vegan food can be. Also I like the creativity and the presentation of the food here. I recommend any of their bowls, and their pizzas. Also I like the cozy basement atmosphere of the shop. On the other hand, I had couple of incidents with them that left a bad taste. I get the feeling that because this is a hipster-ish kind of place, they manage it in a hipster-ish ! way(read: they do not take it seriously !) I did some take-out and I happen to see some of the food items missing when I drove to my office. Also you can expect to see many items unavailable when you are ordering. And recently, I went to this place again and they were closed during their regular hours.

My first visit to Vancouver, visiting my hubbs family. Friday afternoon he and I went out for an adventure. I needed Vegan food badly so I Unilocaled and found Gorilla Food The outside was questionable and It was quite small inside so all the seats were full but we got a great table. The music and décor made me feel peaceful, you can smell the veggies and flavors. It’s so fresh. We should all be eating to live and this is the kind of place that provides you with so many exciting options. Transitioning to Raw Vegan is tough, so places like this inspire me. We ordered a curry bowl, a burger, veggie wrap a juice and smoothie. We loved every bit of goodness!!! We purchased the Gorilla Food cookbook and the chef and owner Aaron Ash signed a book for us he was super nice. Thank you so much for the experience! Will for sure be back when we’re in town

Love this place! The interior has a nice, cozy, forest hut-like feel, and the service is always friendly. The food is always an adventure, but consistently flavorful and über healthy. Be sure to try out a variety of unique menu items to find out what your cup of(raw vegan) tea is! I’m impartial to the gorilla salad and green curry bowl.

I decided to try out«Gorilla Foods» after hearing a recommendation from a demo lady @ the downtown Whole Foods. This place is: ORGANIC, VEGAN, and RAW! We went down the dark basement tiny restaurant located on a street that is different from the nearby high end districts. Not a problem for me, just means it has character. We ordered 2 things to share since we weren’t that hungry. — «Green curry rice» $ 11 — this one is slightly less pleasing than the kale bowl with cashew cream cheese version at «Café Gratitude». Their«rice» is a finely chopped mixture of cabbage, carrots, etc veggies, topped with kale, sesame seeds and a dollop of the cashew cheese. It’s flavourful, just not as creamy and nice as the version they got the inspiration from. maybe because the store ran out of avocado by mid-afternoon had something to do with it? — «Lemon Avocado pie» $ 7 — delicious! heavenly! With a crust of coarsely ground Brazilian nuts and dates, light airy cream of avocado + banana + dates(for sweetness) + lemon(for the acidic flavour)… Sprinkled with coconut flakes! I would definitely come back to try their pizza and lasagne + some more dessert! =) Even their chocolate is raw, organic, with special sources. Pricing is overall a bit high, but that’s to be expected for good organic restaurants since their ingredient costs are a lot higher.

Solid, delicious, and well portioned vegan food. First time trying raw vegan food, and I’m impressed. I had the Main St. Monkey sandwich($ 9.50) which consisted of olive tapenade, mashed creamy avocado, zucchini hummus, tomatoes, cucumbers, and sprouts on a curry squash bread(that’s the only option they had that day). Note — they don’t skimp on the fillings, so this sandwich gets pretty messy to eat! Also had a slice of their Lemon Avocado Pie($ 7). It’s such a unique flavor and texture! You have to try this if you like avocado. Very creamy, almost like cream cheese. I was expecting the flavour of avocado to hit me first, but surprisingly it was the lemon. Slightly sour at the beginning, you get a creamy avocado after taste. Awesome stuff. The atmosphere of Gorilla Food is also really chill and relaxed.

Yes it is possible to enjoy vegan, non cooked food. It’s actually possible to not only enjoy it but to love it. This place is love at first bite, tastier than most unhealthy fried foods and full of good vibration. The vegan burger was a dream come true and I could honestly say I could have this in place of a regular burger any day. The curry inspired salad was crisp, fresh and delightful. We sat by the bar and chatted with the owner. His radiant smile and eyes were a testament to how much he loves the food he creates and how much he loved to share this way of eating. We be buying a Gorilla food cook book and making every second dinner vegan and raw. yum YUM yum g

I’m in the middle of a 21 day cleanse, so my sushi date with a best friend turned into a «no you’re not breaking your cleanse, lets go to Gorilla Food» We walked in and the place was super busy, but managed to scout a bar table at the very back of the restaurant. It was cozy and perfect. Looking through the menu it was hard to choose what we wanted. So many delicious looking options, but we narrowed it down to the following: Guacamole & Salsa with Homemade Crackers Bonobos Carnival Lasagna-nanda Blue green &BC Blue Juice Sweet Magenta Juice annnnnnd Avocado Lemon Pie for dessert. First off Pricing for all of that after tax was $ 52. Seriously not that bad. Our food arrived quickly(Since there’s no time spent cooking anything, i guess that would be expected haha) and we started off with the Guacamole & Salsa. Guacamole & salsa were the man — of the Three different crackers we had, we liked two and did not like the other. The third one was extremely gingery, and we agreed that had no place in guacamole and salsa. Delish none the less. Next up: Bonobos. Good lord this was DELICIOUS. Lisa and I were both staring at each other nodding in agreement with each bite, that this was epic. The Cashew Cream was the man, the marinated kale was divine, and the veggie-flax bread was so flipping good i wanted to buy some. and Im a gluten free bread snob. The Lasagna-nanda…mehhh. It was so much of the same flavours in such a huge piece, that after a few bites we both felt like we’d had enough. Plus maybe its because we’re not die-hard raw/vegan foodies, but if you’re going to call something lasagna, it needs to really be lasagna, not just a layered loaf of veggies and salsa. The drinks were divine. I’m obsessed with beets so the Sweet Magenta rocked my world. Lisa LOVED her blue green & bc blue and described it as similar to eating ice cream(tip of the hat to you, Gorilla Food!) And finally. Avocado Lemon pie… Texturally epic. Flavour wise. no thank you. The moussey center started off with a delicious light flavour that was almost immediately overpowered by intense bitterness. Would not have that again. All in all, loved our experience. I went home happy I stuck to my cleanse, and happy that I wasn’t hating my life post-dinner. I’ll for sure be back.

I couldn’t decide what I wanted so I doubled down and got the thai wraps and the oh my gado gado nice bowl. Like a fatty. I am pretty certain that I have lunch for the next three days! I forgot how filling and nourishing everything is here. So. Good. Keep that in mind when you order and don’t go crazy! I think the price fits the food for all the health and love contained inside each dish. Also, you will be surprised at how full you feel after consuming such a «small» dish by our weird standards. They now accept debit which is helpful. A healthy gem in the downtown full of pizza and sushi.

Raw, living, food… can it get any healthier? I love the reggae jungle getaway vibe. It’s always warm and welcoming, as long as there isn’t a line. Great for lunch or an early dinner, as it seems to close earlier than expected. They also have amazing flavored nuts for sale, along with books on nutrition and the benefit of raw foods. They don’t seem to mind if you read them while waiting for your meal. And if you like desserts, this is a destination for you. MUSTGO in Vancouver. You’ll never have felt healthier.

I am by no means the target market for Gorilla Food’s vegan, raw, gluten-free, sugar-free menu. But the atmosphere of the place is hard to resist — kind of jungle-meets-basement — and cheerful, even on a dank Vancouver day. The menu is surprisingly long for a café with what could be seen as a limiting cuisine — no heat, no meat, no wheat — and all organic too. It includes soups, pizza(on sprouted seed crusts — kind of like a giant cracker with toppings), sandwiches, and salads. The mains, from which I chose Rawmein, are also basically salads with their«zucchini ‘new’dles» i.e., shredded zucchini. My favourite part of the meal was the almond shake, Strawberry Bliss variety. It was so sweet and creamy, you would not believe it was based on pureed almonds. On my way out(still a little hungry) I grabbed a little chocolate truffle — made from cocoa sweetened with dates, I’m told. I tried not to blanch at paying almost $ 4 for the tiny thing, but it was pretty good as well. It’s kind of expensive for raw veggies, seeds and nuts, creatively prepared and presented, but Gorilla Food is oddly lovable, for one and all.
