I went there for lunch today and had the montreal smoked meat sandwich 12oz. I Thought the sandwich was melt in your mouth fantastic. At $ 14 I thought it seemed a bit pricey but I would rather pay a couple bucks more for good quality food. The service was great and very easy on the eyes which is always a plus. All in all, I would come back to this place and order the exact same thing when I’m in the area again.

I had great service and the food was good, priced quite reasonably! I had the smokie and poutine and it was delicious. Perfect gravy and I loved the slaw in the smokie. Hubs had the daily special which was a chicken pot pie and fries, i tasted a bit of the pie and it was perfect. Nice chicken morsels and lots of flavour not too creamy(I usually hate that in pot pies) Cute little place to watch the game!

Was here over the weekend with some friends. Given the name and when you walk in, it is clear the restaurant is proud of its Québécois background. I had the Meat Lovers Poutine which goes for $ 13.95 for the regular and $ 16.95 for the large. I had the large. To share. You are not human if you can finish a large on your own. The Poutine is massive and loaded with meat as the name suggests. Lots of cheese curds too. Absolutely love the Montréal smoked meat. Apparently the fries are done the official Québécois way(something about having it prepared overnight?). Personally, I can’t really taste the difference. Anyway, this is a great place to have a beer(or two) and some delicious poutine to go with it. Will def be back.

Okay, first of all I’m giving two stars not because the poutine I got was bad or anything, it’s the portion size. I arrived just to get a Togo order about 30 min before they were closing. The chick that was working was really nice and was great. I ordered a regular sized classic poutine. It was $ 9. In my opinion $ 9 better get me a decent size of fries, gravy and cheese curds. They are three ingredients that are very cheap. The portion was quite small. I was very disappointed. I was looking on Unilocal for 30 minutes to figure out where to fill my poutine craving. I was left still not feeling satisfied cuz I wasn’t even full. Don’t get me wrong, it was absolutely delicious! The gravy was so tasty and the fries had a lovely seasoning on them. But I will never go back there because its not worth the price. So I’m still on the search for my go to poutine place, sadly. Considering how close I life to here. I’ll travel further to get my money’s worth.

The poutine was pretty good and our waitress was also quite nice. Just stopped in for an afternoon snack and were pretty happy with the smoked meat and bacon poutine.

During my meal here, the man who identified himself as the owner was openly insulting and extremely disrespectful of his female staff. He also sat himself down at our table during our meal to inform us about how much money he had made that year, which made for a very awkward experience. Needless to say, a very odd and uncomfortable experience. The food was mediocre, but the portions were large. I highly doubt that I will spend my money here again.

Traditional Quebec poutine with a fantastic staff and friendly owner. Had the large bacon poutine that could feed about 3 people. I will be back often.

BINGO. I put it to the test… Their chicken poutine is the best… I tough that I preferred La Belle Patate(I still like them tough)… But things has changed… CUZ they put a way MORE chicken and curd cheese in their poutine… And I truly love the 50’s dinner vibe… So lovely… Blast from the past! Same look than at the precious location on Dunsmir next to BC Hydro… I like the branding with the Quebec flag and Fleur de Lys. The customers service is great! Frenchies and Guys and Dolls(pool house) are next to each other… So… I can stuff my face and then go and play pool. When it’s happen it’s a beautiful I spend extra money-cheat day for me… WHAMMY!

I work in the area and have been here 3 times previously, with coworkers. The first time was out of my desire for legit poutine and fries. The second time because we couldn’t get into the Wallflower. The third time because a friend wanted to check it out, and just now because the craving struck. Today will be the last time I patronize Frenchies. I’ll preface the review by saying this: It’s as close to authentic Québécois poutine and steamies as I’ve had west of Ottawa. That is to say, it’s good. However, today, after checking their menu online(no prices, looks nothing like their in-store menu), I ordered 2 steamies and a poutine for pickup. Knowing this typically costs $ 16(pricey in its own right, but whatever), I show up to pick up the food and am charged $ 22. I mention that this is not the price on the menu. Owner states that he clarified with me on the phone that I wanted a «medium» poutine, and that I should have ordered«the combo». I tell him the website does not make that distinction, and that his own in-store menu does not have a small, medium, or large poutine option. I didn’t want to make a scene, so I dropped the issue and paid. Frenchies, you made your $ 22 today. But you’ll never see another cent from me again. You either don’t have your act together, or you bait and switched me. Both are highly unacceptable. In the past, there were other things about the place I didn’t love. — The owner talking your ear off about the addition of salsbury steak to the menu when you’re trying to have a lunch meeting — The owner pushing past your chair to stick stuff in the window(this couldn’t have waited?) — The prices(I realize that Vancouver’s expensive… but man, 200% more expensive than Montréal prices?) — The laughable loyalty card that requires you to spend $ 25 to get a stamp 2 stars because I can’t complain about the food. But when we’re talking greasy Québécois fare, that’s not setting the bar very high.

Went here because they claimed to served Authentic Montréal Smoked Meat. I checked their website before heading here and saw pictures of a beautiful smoked meat sandwich. When I got here and ordered, the waitress was amazing and sweet, but the sandwich was average at best. There was NOTHING authentic about this place. While in the restaurant I googled the place, found the website, and figured out that the picture of a smoked meat sandwich was not THEIR smoked meat, but that of Schwartz’s Deli in Montréal. This must be a form of plagiarism. Also the coleslaw was soggy and pickle was average. I could have walked across the street to the By-Low and bought meat and bread and gone home and made a better sandwich. The only reason I’m giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because of the poutine. It was not bad. This might be a good hang out spot with cheap drinks, but DONOT go here if looking for authentic smoked meat.

I tried their smoked meat poutine. The smoke meat was not what I expected. I should have ordered the original poutine. We ordered 2 poutines + 2 beers. The total came up to $ 40 tips included. I think the value for the money is not great. I feel like I could have gone to something fancier and better for the price. If you feel nostalgic about Quebec, it’s a nice place to visit, enjoy the hockey game; otherwise the food and quality is mediocre at best. Friendly staff. I had a chat with the owner who is a Québécois himself. Michel is a funny guy. Enjoyed our conversations.

Not surprised by the inconsistent reviews, luckily I sat at the bar and wondered how they didn’t have enough servers. And that is why I will deliberately sit there, not only the best seat in the house, but at least you will be noticed. The poutine is average at best, gravy on the salty side. Only saving grace is the prices are lower than DT but it is worth the extra shakedown to drive 10 min for better quality food. For the area, a much needed joint with bar atmosphere, this area is growing. This used to be the old seafood place.

Had the 10oz Montréal smoked meat and my son ordered a BBQ hot dog and a float. Also ordered a medium poutine and a boyland cherry soda. The food was okay(my sandwich was cold). The poutine was excellent, best I’ve had in the lower mailand so far. My sons hot dog was not what he ordered. It didn’t taste of BBq at all. Wish he would of told me before we left at least. The waitress was very nice but overloaded. She was alone. The owner should of scheduled another employee. I got my own cutlery and ketchup. Had to remind her we ordered drinks. Might give this place another try on another night. Lets see what happens.

I had the opportunity to stop into this main st. eatery last week and had a pleasant conversation with the owner. The poutine with smoked meat was quite satisfying and the beverage of my choice-root beer was also available. I thought the place is little small and rustic, but am not expecting it to be 4 star. I did like the original works of art displayed inside and the door pulls made of wrought iron are awesome! when the little things are unique in a business, like door handle, it makes me smile that we are supporting a local and independent restaurateur. Ok the poutine is good, not amazing but I did enjoy the home cooked tastes. I hope they stick around as I like the small cozy atmosphere.

New poutine place on Main(moved from a closed location). I came here with my best friend and we split a small Montréal smoked cubed meat bowl. The customer service was great, the price was decent at $ 10 for a small which seemed to fill us both us okay. We were served right away but that was ’cause it was dead quiet when we went. There was my best friend and I and another couple. We looked out on the service part.

Didn’t even make it to the food. We went here for lunch and sat down. No one even came up to us so we got our own menus thinking they will eventually get to us, NOPE. After no one acknowledged our existence we left.

I’m giving a 3 because even tho it’s not all made in house the food is pretty good. Hot dog /coleslaw /poutine and pop for 11 is a great deal. Staff isn’t the best and seem to not really know the menu. Been only twice and 2 separate people had to look at the menu to see what I was talking about. Small space with too much stuff everywhere. Feels sort of closed in and there is a weird vibe in there. I think he might have been the owner but the first time I was in there this older french man came to the table and made awkward conversation about how«all the food is good» and so on. He ended with«the server will take your order» it was odd and some what more so because we were the only ones in there and the server had already talked to us. Like he didn’t trust them. I’d go back again for that deal but otherwise I wouldn’t hang out there.

The fries were perfectly crisp, right through the bowl of poutine. Good beer on tap. Friendly staff & management.

We work in the area and have been here a few times now, and every time seems to be a disappointment. Its become a joke to go and get fenchie’s cause we never know what we’ll end up with food wise, but they always come back with a story! The food is ok, kudos to the kitchen team working in such a chaotic place. The wait staff are inexperienced at best, and the owner is rude and seemingly incompetent. We’ve heard him openly insult his staff members every time we go in, rudely talking to the whole restaurant about how stupid and bad they are. No one has ever taken down our order correctly, none if them know what’s on their own menus and I’m not sure if any of them have experience in customer service. Even after double and triple checking our orders(we’ve learned!) We never ever receive exactly what we order. Disappointing :(we were excited for a decent poutine place

For the poutine and having Blanche de Chambly on tap. You can order the Montréal Smoke meat sandwiches by the inch or the oz, but I haven’t had one yet. Service in English and French.
