Great prices, pretty good sushi, and definitely a nicer place than other sushi joints in the vicinity of VGH. Would have considered a 5* if I hadn’t waited ~15min for my maki boat.(I came for weekday lunch with reservation).

This was my first time to this location, I usually go to the location on Robson. I was not really expecting too much nor was I happy with the decision that my friend had made to go to this particular location. I have always received excellent food and service at the Robson location. However I am not a party pooper and went in the with an open mind and was everything exceeded my expectations. They have a great special every day of the week as well as well as some items that are permanently on special. There is also some great specials on drinks, my favourite part of the menu. We ordered a variety of dishes and drinks — chicken karaage — not bad but not as good as Robson location. — sashimi boat — we had some sort of boat. It was good but nothing spectacular. — thunder fries — very good. Not too much batter and good sauce. — beef sashimi — one of the better dishes. Good quantity too. — salmon carpaccio — lil raunchy tasting. Tasted kinda rotten. But once again a decent amount. — oyster motoyaki — should have taken a photo. It’s not as buttery tasting as it usually is. The oyster was cut up into pieces so it want one gigantic piece. Not bad but nothing spectacular. Mentaiko udon — this is a bomb bomb dish at the Robson location, so I had high expectations. This disappointed me. 6⁄10. Beef tongue — this particular dish was very gamey. Not good at all. But one of my other friends liked it. Beef sukiyaki — one of the better dishes. Steamed egg — not the actual name of the dish but I forgot what it is. Pretty good but pretty pricey for what it is. We also had four five types of rolls. We had one of each of the torched rolls. Not bad but not so great. Robson location is way better for rolls. We also had Sapporo pitchers, which are permanently on special. In addition we had their jumbo shooter specials. Think it as 13 bucks for 4 jumbo shooters. They were weak but they looked nice. Easy to get the girls to drink. We had maybe three trays. Not bad. Special shoutout to the server there named Taro. He was awesome and really went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our experience there. If not for the service I would give it s three star. Food is not so great, ambiance was good, and I had some really feat service.

I’ve heard SO much about Ebisu, and I finally tried it the other day. Located on the second floor of a plaza, it’s easily missed. I was NOT disappointed. Their chicken kaarage was amazing! Crispy, fragrant and flavourful! So addictive! Highly recommend. If you’re coming here for lunch, get one of their lunch specials. You can choose 3 items for only $ 10.99! That’s right…3 items! Talk about a deal! Their happy hour deals and late night specials are a great deal. Haven’t tried them though(but I want to!) I’ll be back Ebisu!

This was my first time going to an actual Japanese restaurant and it was very enjoyable! Great service and great food. All the servers were very kind. Would totally go again :)

Food is delicious but the service is really really slow. I hope you have some patience you’ll need it.

Good food in the restaurant, but I would suggest not ordering take out or delivery. 25 $ minimum order for delivery within 4 km. after my food arrived after an hour, I was disappointed to see that my Dungeness crab roll had probably be smallest amount of crab they could have possibly put in, with 90% of the roll being avocado instead. Not only this, they over charged me on that roll when their menu states it’s 7.95 $. I would expect an 11.00 $ roll to be amazing, but it was not at all. My other sushi was fine, nothing special but good.

This is one of the oldest Japanese restaurant that has been around. Came here after 9pm and it was pretty packed. I have to say I have been here multiple times but the quality of the food has gone down quite a bit. Sashimi was not as fresh as it used to be. Plus it did take them quite a long time to serve the food. I came here at lunch and dinner time and it’s the same. Service was good. We ordered happy hours or late night wings and at first we got the miso flavour but the server didn’t tell us it was hot miso. My definition of miso is never hot. They did take it back and exchanged it with teryaki flavour. As well they did not argue. This is a plus. I did find it funny that night how every 10 mins they played the happy birthday song. Guess it’s a good place to hold a birthday party as well. I liked their new item on the menu tiger prawn motoyaki. Very unique. I would definitely come back. Oh yeah another thing I like about this place is that they are open late.

We ordered almost everything on the menu. BBQ Black cod is on special now. Run don’t walk down here to get it. Tuna tataki, prawn gyoza, delicious roll, Alaska roll, chopped scallop nigiri, agadashi tofu with calamari in sweet and spicy sauce. I don’t know any other restaurant that serves his dish. It is amazing. We also got the lychee and strawberry and mango icebergs. So refreshing with just the right amount of sweetness.

I’ve been to Ebisu a few times now. I’m a huge fan of their Happy Hour Menu(8:30pm to close daily). I loooove oysters and Ebisu definitely hits the spot. During happy hour, Royal Miyagi oysters are $ 1 each. They come with lemon and another sauce. I’m usually a minimalist with my oysters and only tolerate a little squeeze of lemon but that sauce sure is tasty with the oysters! I also had their teriyaki chicken wings. Not the greatest wings I’ve ever had, but not bad for the price. Servers are friendly, a little understaffed at times but they’ve been very nice every time I’ve gone. Definitely a worthwhile place to check out for late night cheap eats!

Came here with a group of friends for lunch one day. Everyone loved the freedom to make choices from the lunch special! The food itself wasn’t too bad — I chose to have the sushi combo/spicy chicken teriyaki/agedashi tofu and miso soup all for $ 10.99! I would definitely come back another time.

The food here is delish and affordable. The food reminds me of how the food used to be at Kamei Royale. And it’s a 5 minute walk from the broadway station. I eat here every time I come to Vancouver!

Been here a handful of times. I love the sushi boats for lunch, their portions are generous and filling. One time my coworker found a hair in her vegetarian noodles but that didn’t really dampen the fact that we still came back after. They have good lunch boxes too and tasty $ 12 dollar«special rolls».

I was here for a friend’s birthday. The staff were very friendly. My favorite things from my dinner was: toro Aburi sushi, ebisu roll, thunder fries, oyster motoyaki, and their salmon carpaccio. Overall we didn’t experience any problems and food came very quickly, besides the thunder fries.

I give this place a 3.5 star based on location, service and food. I was here one night for a gathering I had with some friends. First off I want to say this place is like hidden in the back. It may have a sign on West Broadway but it’s hidden underneath a tall building in the back. I wouldn’t say it’s super hard to find but it’s also not super visible either. When I arrived at the restaurant it’s slightly small entrance and it looked like they were under staffed because their host had to pick up the phone, deal with the cash and seat people. I don’t know if its the same we booked the place that it just all of a sudden got super busy. The place itself was pretty crammed. We were a table of 8 people which we were crammed into a booth that look like it fits 6. But that’s ok considering we were all pretty skinny for being asain. Food arrived pretty quickly after they took our order. they made one mistake which was they gave us beef carpaccio instead of beef sashimi. We were very confused with the price because we though sashimi is more expensive than carpaccio and the server didn’t really explain it to us. We just started to eat. It was just some miscommunication in the end. We had it resolved in the end. Food itself was good and for the price you pay it’s pretty decent. I can’t say it’s bad or out of the ordinary. The salmon sashimi was placed out nicely on the big ice bowl. Overall, not bad at all. One of their servers even helped us take a group picture and made sure the picture was good before she left. Keep in mind it was busy that night. So, I would recommend others to come here if the downtown location is too out of their way to go.

Team Choir came here after a tour of Vancouver General Hospital and I got a taste of the Unagi Tacos, Loco Moco Chicken, Mushroom Ebi Udon, and the Unagi Box(with Eel Donburi, Chicken Karaage, Takoyaki, and Seaweed). Wow, this was a ton of food so some had to be taken home! Let’s go through the better items. The Loco Moco Chicken is basically a combination of egg, rice, and chicken katsu, and it’s a great way to fill up for cheap on the late night specials. The chicken is quite juicy and the sweet sauce goes great with the rice. Another good choice is the Unagi Box. Essentially this is a bento box with a ton of goodies inside. Takoyaki is great for any meal and the eel isn’t too overloaded with teriayaki sauce. The rice is sure to make you full, and the box looks massive(photo below). Not so great choices were the Mushroom Ebi Udon and Unagi Tacos. The udon was a little bland and I thought the prawn could have come out hotter than warm as it did. This would be a good choice for someone who is fine adding tons of hot sauce since hot sauce mixes well with udon sauces. Unagi tacos were a cool concept, but difficult to eat with the crunchy shell. Again, it looks cool, but since the unagi is chewy it’s hard to get a clean bite. Maybe a soft taco would have been easier to grip and separate the unagi.

I’ve only ever been to the Robson location but I went for lunch here today. Honestly Ebisu has never disappointed me. The food is great. The menu is broad and I like that there are options like«3 items for 10.99» on the lunch menu and different specials and I love that the portions are just perfect. The service at the Broadway location was great. Our food was out really fast(we came before the lunch rush) and I personally feel that the menu is fairly priced for the quality. I went with my coworker and we shared a bento box and did the«3 items for 10.99» so we got spicy tuna roll, gyoza and tako yaki. I will admit that the serving sizes on this 3 item lunch special is smaller than most sushi places but it works out because you get the variety. What I like about Ebisu is that I know the food will be cooked properly. I always prefer rice over yakisoba simply because most places over cook the noodles leaving it gooey and slippery. we shared the chicken teriyaki on yakisoba and to my surprise the noodles were cooked perfectly. I would consider ordering yakisoba again at Ebisu. I highly recommend this restaurant at both locations! Great food, fair prices and I know that the drinks menu at the Robson location is amazing!

Normally I visit the Robson location, but this time the group I was with decided to try the Broadway location. It’s located in the old«Daimasu», which was bought and merged by the Kamei group(I think). As always, we come here for cheap-ish izakaya and sushi, but more importantly for the cheap booze. Pitches of Sapporo are $ 8.50, and diluted shots are $ 15 for 8. There’s a more extensive liquor menu available, but that’s what was had on this particular day. Upon arriving for an earlier dinner at 630pm, the place was dead. As in, «only 2 – 3 tables were occupied» dead. Our group of 20 was seated in the«private» area, which is really just the tables where you need to take your shoes off to eat(we never do). They had no way of knowing, but there is no way to fit 20 adult men in that area. We had to work on our rusty tumble/gymnastic skills to get in and out without making a mess of the place. Food-wise, it was your usual«Ebisu-fare». Nothing extraordinary, but tastes good for the prices paid. Here’s a quick rundown of some of the items we tried: Tofu/Calamari: Looks big, but 4 deep-fried tofu blocks line the bottom to fill up the bowl. Otherwise, calamari was a bit stringy, but nicely-breaded. The sauce was their spicy mayo, and the dish was coated in a spicy-sweet sauce. As a fan of the traditional Greek offering, this dish was nothing special. Chicken Karaage: This one specifically said 5pcs. The pieces were large(like the Robson location), and the sauce was the spicy mayo, again like the Robson location. As always, a crowd favorite! Various nigiri/sashimi(tuna, salmon, shrimp, toro): All was fresh. No complaints here. On par with most of the popular Korean sushi joint offerings. Samurai Power Roll: Think a cali roll with unagi and tobiko on top. Tastes good, but for the price it’s pretty poor value considering what it is. Saba/Toro Inferno rolls: These came really late, but they came nonetheless. The server even let us take hold of the torch, which was a nice touch. Between the two, the saba was the better choice as it had a bit more flavour. However, unlike the Robson location(or any other place that does something like this), the rice had some cooked salmon flakes in it. The rest of the group liked it, but I actually preferred that they leave it with just the saba/toro and rice. Overall, I prefer the Robson location more when it comes to the food. That said, I did appreciate the quieter ambience at the Broadway location, as there were no «pre-gamers» grabbing a bit before hitting up the Granville strip. There were definitely more families/couples at this location compared to the rowdy clubbing crowd you’d usually find at the Robson Ebisu.

[Tried, Tested, True] Ebisu has always been one of my favorite late night and happy hour hangout spots. The majority of their menu is made up of small shareable plates with a healthy selection of sushi. Think Guu without all the shouting. Awesome fact #1: Their menus have big pictures of nearly every item on it. My eyes are always bigger than my stomach and as a result, my wallet suffers. A few friends and I came by on a Saturday night and made it in just before last call. We ordered a lot since we wouldn’t be able to add anything on later. I started with a dozen raw oysters at a buck-a-shuck. These were your run of the mill… bigger oysters. They were okay for a buck but they were certainly not your Royal Miyagi or Kusshi. Once the oysters were safely packed away in my chasm of a stomach, I started with the salmon carpaccio. It was beautifully presented garnished with mayo, sprouts, lettuce, cucumbers, and yellow peppers. Delish! It was a good size and probably should’ve been shared with a friend. I also ended up getting an order of the Salmon avocado and tuna avocado on special for $ 4 per roll. To make sure I was stuffed to the brim, I got a half order of both the double dragon roll and the samurai power roll off their regular menu($ 6 each). All the sushi rolls were above average in freshness and taste. Awesome fact #2: During happy hour, Pitchers of Sapporo are $ 8.50 and a pack of 8 shooters is $ 15. I made good use of both. I’d describe the ambience as fun and charming. Most tables are in their own little booth — some of which are decorated like little houses. Service here is always excellent. The messed up a friend’s order and was glad to comp it without any hassle. Most of the servers are or speak Japanese which makes it feel a tad more authentic. Despite being here at happy hour, I still managed to run up a $ 55 tab. I found value to be a bit lacking especially at their regular prices — however, I felt as stuffed as a Thanksgiving turkey. Despite this, I do find myself coming back here time and time again. Why? Great menu options, consistent service, and charming ambience. Do yourself a favor and pop by during happy hour for a snack and a few cheap drinks.

This is a little Japanese place tucked away from Broadway, definitely explore your way into it as you will miss its late night specials! It has amazing deals throughout the week after 5PM and also after 8:30PM. A buck a shuck for Royal Miyagi oysters is a great deal! Amazing! Now, it isn’t as tasty as Kusshi oysters in my opinion, but it is quite a deal and will be sourly missed when oyster season is over. They have the cutest little set up with the Japanese booths and great for groups in that way, good accommodation, no problem splitting bills, good service, very busy and nice waitresses as well. We had the loco moco chicken there– I was adverse to it thinking it a waste to eat a heavier plate when there are so many yummys to snack on but this tasty dish definitly surprised me! From the melting yolk to the juicy chicken and its delicious and savoury sauce, it was a great choice! Definitely try it out! The grilled scallop on top of a fire is fun to order as well. The gyozas were a bit burnt but still alright. The garlic shrimp was quite tasty as well. Don’t miss it for your next group or birthday event!

I’ve been coming here for over 20 years and it’s still my favourite sushi bar in town. Great quality for reasonable prices. Attentive service. Great atmosphere. Try the double dragon roll, golden scallops, spicy tuna sashimi or one their boats. Tasty! My go to sushi bar. The only note is that I prefer to sit at the sushi bar so I wish they had left it where it was before, but there is usually space at the new one despite its small size.
