I recently went to Custom Colour to have some hi quality scans of my slides and negatives done. Now you might be thinking an everyday CD with your photos added to it that you had developed at a 1 hour photo lab. In this case it was different. I needed something extremely high quality that I could take and reproduce later on any medium using the digital file rather than the slide or negative. I looked around at pricing and Custom Colour had the lowest. It was around $ 13.75 per photo. That’s right, probably about the cost of getting 2 or 38×10 prints done. This isn’t a cheap hobby. I took my slides and negatives into the shop and told the lady at the counter what I wanted to have done. She was very helpful and took the time to get all of my random negs organized. She was very careful with them too which I really appreciated. I’ve had people scratch my negatives before which renders them useless. She wore cotton gloves and did not run her fingers across any of them while she was transferring them to protective casing. She gave me the slip with the timeframe which was a couple of days. That seemed reasonable as they were quite busy there. I returned to pick up my scanned slides and negatives and went straight to a computer to check them out. I was really impressed with the quality of the scan and was able to reproduce them just as I wanted. If you’re looking for a decent place to have hi resolution scans made from old negatives, Custom Colour is a good spot. They’ve also got a great selection of equipment, film, and offer several ways to have your photos printed. I’ll definitely go back to Custom Colour for my next round of scans.
