Agree with most of the more recent reviews that the place has gone south since ownership change in July. Poorly trained staff are expected to keep this place going with small, dry pastries and poor quality cakes. Around Halloween, they had a pumpkin pie for about $ 4 a slice and it looked like an exact dupe of the Costco pumpkin pies, down to the size and look of the crust. Have tried a few items over the past number of months, hoping for improvement, but have been disappointed from rock-hard icing on the cupcakes to funny-tasting mousse cakes.

Cute little spot for grabbing lunch. Staff is friendly and there’s enough seating for a Broadway lunch rush although a lot of people seems to grab and go. I’ve had their Tuscan chicken sandwich and soup a few times and enjoyed it due to the fact everything is clearly fresh. I just wish they filled the sandwich a little more and that the soup carried a little more flavour. Will be back

Used to love this shop. New owners have ruined it in all manners aside from expanding the hours. Pastries are now no better than grocery store ones.

Chiming in — the new owners ruined this place. I live on the same block and I used to come here often. Used to be: bustling, competent, friendly staff serving delicious pastries made with fresh ingredients, and healthy salads too. Now: ultra low cost is the rule. I tried to order a sandwich and the woman behind the counter was alone, didn’t speak English, and wasn’t trained well enough to even make the sandwich. Not her fault; I blame the owners. The sandwich was sort of strangely proportioned(someone from a non-sandwich culture struggling with concept) but okay. I also ordered a cookie to go with it and it was so inedible I left most of it on the table. I would have stopped eating it after one bite but you know those situations where you wonder that it can’t possibly be the food, it must be you? I mean how can you mess up a chocolate chip cookie? But apparently they can. It would have been hard for any new owners to match Chiffon’s old standard. And I’d like to be patient with a new entrepreneur learning the ropes. I tried it a few times after that but it was always the same. As far as I can tell they don’t have any priorities other than cost.

Bad sandwiches, bad service. It’s pretty hard to make a terrible sandwich but this place accomplished it x2. See my pic of the pale greasy«panini». It contained some very questionable cuts of chicken, unmelted cheese and soggy lettuce. My boyfriend(who likes everything) couldn’t get through his club either. Nothing terribly wrong but nothing right either. Just some deli ham(?) and a very sad, shriveled piece of bacon. The woman taking my order was also rude and walked away in the middle of taking my order. Don’t go here.

Tetsuo S. really hit the nail on the head. This place used to be amazing– fantastic food, great service and good prices. Each visit used to be such an adventure, you never knew what amazing new goods they’d whip up. I had been a fan for four years, but ever since Chiffon came under new ownership a couple of months ago, I have had to sadly remove this place from my list of favourites. In fact, I don’t think I’ll ever return. The staff don’t seem to know what they’re doing, the quality of food has hit rock bottom and the prices are out of sync with the product you get. I’m not a very picky eater and I have a major sweet tooth. I also hate wasting food. On my most recent(and last visit), however, I ended up throwing out the majority of my purchases. The white chocolate banana bread was one of the most disgusting things I have ever eaten– I didn’t taste white chocolate or banana and could not identify any of the odd flavours in the dry, stale bread. It seemed like an old product that had been sitting there for God-knows-how-long. And the pecan caramel brownie? The worst brownie that has ever crossed these lips. I could barely taste any chocolate or any other flavour for that matter and that was most definitely a stale product. Some of the products, like the cheesecake, also appear store bought, rather than made in house. The cardboard tray sitting under the cheesecakes was a dead giveaway. Also, the woman behind the register overcharged me for a number of products. When I pointed it out, she gave me incorrect change in cash when I had paid by credit card. There are too many red flags with this place. It’s really unfortunate to see such a great place change hands and tank so badly. It’s not even ok– it’s pretty awful and I would even go so far as to tell you to stay away from this place.

I saw this reviewed on the front page of Unilocal on July 19th and book marked it for future reference. Most of the menu is on the chalk boards, there is a lot to read, therefore, don’t be surprised if it takes you more than 10 minutes to actually decide what you want. I came close to closing, however, was able to get a decent London Fog, soup and muffin. Customer service was good, wifi was slow but lots of seats. My soup was healthy which was appreciate.

The food is really good but I can only give two stars because the service is TERRIBLE. The servers are all really nice, so i hate saying this, but they are so unbelievably disorganized; I just waited more than 15 minutes for one sandwich! There are FOUR staff in this small, seven-table café, but they just can’t figure out how to production line the lunch-making. This is not the first time I’ve waited ages for a sandwich! They only ever have one person making the sandwiches, and one person’s job seems to be to stand and watch them. Whoever owns this place… ORGANIZEYOURSTAFF! Or if they’re really backed up with orders, then at least let the customer know there will be a 15 minute wait at the time they order, so that they can choose to go someplace else.

I used to go here daily for my morning coffee and treats. It was one of my favorite spots. The staff were super friendly and gave exceptional service. Since the new ownership the place has gone downhill. The baked goods are not good, nor do i believe they are made in house. They reek of pre-packaged Sysco parbaked-shit.(can’t fool me I know used to work with SYSCO). The food quality is not the only thing lack luster, the staff are rude and argumentative, the customer service is poor . How poor you ask? yesterday I went in and decided to buy my co-workers coffee. We are all devout coffee drinkers. I order 4 large Americanos, with an extra shot, as i was informed they only came with 2. No big deal. I paid and patiently awaited my drinks. Then I notice the guy is not giving me Americanos but drip coffee. I inform the guy of getting my order wrong to which he responds«no you ordered medium roast». I said«no i didn’t, i ordered Americanos.» He seemed quite flustered and unsure what to do. I said«I ordered Americanos» he continued to poor drip coffee into the 4 cups, informed me that there was a «line up», then asked me if he was to put the lids on to the 4 cups. I was very frustrated and said no. To which he responded«I was making it difficult for him». As he was filling each cup and putting it in a tray 1 by 1. he had decided at this point that i was getting drip coffee no matter what. so I gave him a suggestion to place the empty cups in the tray and fill them while in the tray. To which he was not happy. Once he handed me the tray I asked him once again why i did not get what I ordered to which he threw a 5 $ bill on the counter and walked away. SO shitty service, shitty food. there is no point to patronize this place. I will never go back and have advised all of my coworkers to boycott the place as well.

Like another reviewer had mention. The baked goods here were great, until it came under new ownership in July. The first time I tried it after the change in management, I was greatly disappointed. The once soft buttery scone stuffed with spinach, cheese and ham were reduce to a dry scone with much reduced portion of the stuffing. I used to trek 4 blocks from my office just to pick up their scone, now I am pretty sure I would rather just go to Tim Horton.

NEWOWNERS. I used to get cheese on my sandwich, served by a cute girl in her early twenties, now it’s just a bunch of guys with no sense of industrial organization. It could take you 10 minutes to get your soup, and when they give it to you it will be place upside down in a bag without crackers or pepper. :(why did the owners abandon us? there used to be a line up every day, now they only serve pre-made wraps and make us wait for service.

Before July 2015 the baked goods and sandwiches used to be something I looked forward to as my weekly treat. Unfortunately the quality of the food has significantly declined since Chiffon changed ownership in July. In particular, the sandwiches are soggy and the baked goods are dry resulting in a less than tasteful experience.

Came here for a quick meal while working near VGH. Got the spicy chicken panini with split pea soup. Taste: loved it! Value: a little on the pricey side Wait time: decent(no wait to order, a couple minutes for food to arrive) Atmosphere: quiet as in few people but the radio was on the loud side Would come back? Probably if I’m in the same circumstance again

I walked by and decided to look at what they had and grabbed a spinach and cheese scone to go. Wow! It was soooooo good! Light and fluffy, buttery, absolutely perfect! Haven’t tried anything else but I’m just going off the amazing scone.

I really wish this place was better since it is so close. Tuna sandwich: meh and overpriced. Bread was too dry. Breakfast Bagel: bagel was super dry and over-toasted, and the egg was rubbery and overcooked. I think there was suppose to be cheese and bacon on it, but there was so little you could barely taste either. They took a while to make two, and when I got them they were cold. Coffee: weak and watery. I really hope that they improve the quality of their food. They have a huge selection, but maybe they would be more successful if they picked a few things that they rocked at and then went with those offerings. Perhaps the owners should consider visiting Elysian Coffee and Beaucoup Café and see how they are doing it. These places have similar prices, but I would rather walk ten minutes to either of those locations for their superior quality of food and coffee.

New to the area and decided to try this café bright and early. Everything is baked fresh by the owner here. The downside is you want to eat everything as they look delicious. I got a breakfast wrap along with a cream cheese pumpkin cookie, washed it all down with a coconut matcha tea. I really enjoyed everything and its nice to see everything is made fresh. There are just too many café these days that just have premade food sitting on display.

Really big fan. I eat here at least once a week. The chicken salad is great and the side salads are creative and delicious. Curry tortellini — also amazing. They have specials everyday which I suggest trying because they’re fresh and always surprise me. Thumbs up!

A great place to discover in my neighbourhood. Nothing mind blowing, just really solid offerings in soup, sandwich and baked goods, and of course service. Get there early, seating is limited. Well done Chiffon Patisserie!

The unfortunate part of going to school Monday to Friday is that I miss out on chances to experience the awesomeness that is Chiffon Patisserie. I’ve only been able to try it twice for breakfast: once before I got married last summer, and last Thursday when I had a day off. Chiffon Patisserie is an absolutely fantastic café on W Broadway. Their décor is really cute, and the café has a bright, cheery feel to it. They have an ever changing selection of freshly made baked goods, ranging from scones to cupcakes to macaroons. My husband and I both opted for breakfast sandwiches(mine was on a bagel, his was on toast). The breakfast sandwiches come with egg, bacon, lettuce, and tomato, and each sandwich order also comes with coffee or tea. As an avid tea drinker, I was very happy to find that they have a fantastic selection of Stash teas. We both raved about how much we enjoyed the sandwiches, and how much we wish this place was open on weekends. We also shared a raspberry macaroon, which was absolutely fantastic! I can’t rave about how much I enjoyed it. Our total bill for two breakfast sandwiches, one coffee, one tea, and one macaroon was $ 14. I have no complaints about that, because everything was fresh, delicious, and we were supporting a local business. If they ever open up on Satudays(or Sundays), I would definitely frequent this place more often. If you haven’t gone yet, don’t miss out on an amazing café.
