As an engineer and very involved (aka difficult) consumer, I found it a daunting task shopping for my first diamond. I was faced with many purchase options including the large name brands, Canadian Internet retailers, American Internet retailers, small American jewelers and other small local jewelers.
After a hard day diamond gazing, I realized that there are no truly objective metrics one can count on when sourcing a diamond. I came home that night, went to straight to bed frazzled and quietly asked Siri «how not to get screwed when buying a diamond». Unfortunately unknown to me at the time, my girlfriend was in the room and the secret was out. Anyway, the answer to that question is to go meet Dane, owner of Cavalier Gastown.
Dane’s laid back attitude and willingness share his knowledge and opinion while exploring my own ideas was very comforting. Where I benefited most was from his complete lack of sales pressure and his patience while I learned about the product. It was soon obvious that Dane sincerely wanted only the best result for me and my fiancé. Together we were able to arrive at a design for an engagement ring that worked beautifully. Without bias he showed me diamonds of various qualities and patiently let me inspect them under magnification then come to my own conclusions.
Although relatively young, Dane is from age where commitments are honored with a handshake. When so many dollars are at stake, that level of integrity was very assuring to me.
I saved about 40% by not purchasing off the shelf from a major well known retailer. I got a better product that was customized perfectly for my girl and I received the satisfaction of supporting a local business in my own neighborhood. Cavalier is a local Gastown jeweler however Dane’s has family roots deep in the Canadian diamond industry.
I’ve been recommending his services ever since and will be back myself for wedding bands in the near future.

I came in here to get some watch repair consultation. When my dad passed my mom gave me some of his old watches, however, they needed repairing in one way or another. I was actually recommended this place by another Unilocaler at the last Elite event whom suggested this place. They weren’t able to repair the watch per se, however, made some additional recommendations. I liked their styles which is more artsy and less pretentious which is what I appreciate. Very laid back and welcoming compared to other watch stores that I’ve been to.

I came by here to check it out and measure my ring size since i dont know it. The gentleman was very nice the store was clean. They make custom jewlery which is awsome!

If you’re looking for jewellery, you should go here. After shopping around at countless other places, I was sold on Cavalier five minutes after I walked in the door.
Cavalier is just a different kind of jeweller. It isn’t stuffy or overbearing. The atmosphere is laid back, which takes a lot of the pressure off when you’re shopping for a big purchase. The pieces themselves are beautiful, and there’s a good range from hyper-​contemporary to classic. They’ve got more casual jewellery as well as serious pieces for those big moments of life (ie engagement rings/​anniversary bands).
I was extremely happy with a substantial jewelry purchase at Cavalier. Dane & co. went over the top to make sure my lady and I were satisfied with the purchase. I have serious respect for a business owner who will bend over backwards for customer service, and that’s what I got at Cavalier. This is now my go-​to jeweller.
