Tried seafood pancake with makgeolli. We had never had this before. Interesting, but I think I prefer soju. It is made locally. Pancake was nice and not too oily, with a nice variety of seafood. Service and décor was pleasant. The walls are covered with photos and the corners have wooden tree trunks. There are very few options for vegetarians.

First off, I am not even a big fan of Korean food, and hardly go to any Korean restaurant but this place wowed me. Their Kimchi is just heavenly and most delicious radish pickle you would ever have. It is not from some factory but from the hand of the owner’s mother. mmmmmm nom nom nom. Their Magoli is fresh and flavourful. I love their Kimchi stews and pancakes too. Unlike other Korean restaurants in West End, people who work here actually speak English and very nice. They would come and talk to you and share some info about how those food are made. It seems like the owners are Korean Canadian and grew up here unlike those illegal workers in West End.

The atmosphere is cozy, and the mahkgohli will make you warm. My favorite is the MahpSoSa aka OMG, which is a mixture of mahkgohli, soju, and 7 up. It’s so perfectly well mixed, it gets addicting. But of course, I paired that with other dishes that they have! Bossam is really yummy. Although a little pricey($ 15 for a small plate), it was so good, next time I might have to get the large to share with my boyfriend! I didn’t really enjoy the DahkBokeum(spicy chicken dish) all that much, mostly because it felt incomplete without the rice. Also, I was saddened by the fact that they ran out of Soondae and it was 7:30pm on a Friday night. :(I heard it was really good and I love Soondae, so I was disappointed to find out that they didn’t have it. But that’s okay, because the service was pleasant and our server was nice. Just fyi, this place is a «take your time and talk to people you came with», because the service is slow. I am not saying it’s a bad thing! It’s good because the food is freshly prepped and cooked at the moment your order is placed, so it’s great. I will be back for the Soondae!!! Edit: …but the one in Coquitlam is SO much better.

Very neat little place! Basically the Guu of Korean food with modern, warm, wood-themed décor. So different from what I’m used to or was expecting! We ordered a few dishes, but this was quite challenging. My instinct was that this place was pretty authentic, given all the patrons were speaking Korean. Proven true: half the items were too authentic for my squeamish self(read, pork organs) or the descriptions weren’t very English-friendly I couldn’t ‘envision’ what other dishes were going to end up looking like. So, feeling too overwhelmed, I regrettably went with a safe kimchi ramen thing. It was as expected, could have used more seafood, but I wasn’t offended that there wasn’t. Also tried the seafood pancake which you also can’t really go wrong on. It wasn’t too oily and it’s thinner than what I was used to which was nice; some places I find it too thick and doughy. They had these crispy rice rolls on special(?) as an appy; I thought this was a great snack and was impressed with the consistency since the insides was still very chewy. Our last dish was a egg-battered zucchini that resembled tempura. Despite frying, it still retained a fresh zucchini crunch which was appreciated; I’d definitely order this again. Service was also something to write home about. They were especially considerate to my very pregnant friend, from leaning down to speak with her, to rushing to shut the front door when cigarette fumes started wafting in. Honestly, I really enjoyed myself but a lot of our food was only slightly above average… but I really believe that it was because we did a poor job of ordering. I’m definitely coming back with some Korean people. And recommend that you do as well.

For this hood, it’s a pretty modern décor place, though it seems the korean restos are really lighting it up literally with Base & newer Jang Mo Jib on Robson, but i’ll digress again. It’s actually more of a polished, simple look, with light-tan coloured tables, with a cozy, dim, maybe real dim, ambience. Ordered the seafood green onion pancake, b/c I know it’s going to be good, and two, I’m a simple person ;) This one didn’t find too oily. they also have pretty good food/drink combo specials too. Where the old Pojang used to be. Located beside Dallas Souvlaki. Free parking in its 12-car spot lot. Definitely date worth material if you’re looking for peace and quiet, & too lazy to drive to DT.
