This would explain why this company never seem to actually produce any cupcakes…

tried a cheesecake cupcake but found it didn’t have much filling at all. i don’t think i saw any really. surprising since you pay a premium for the ‘filled’ cupcakes. they can definitely work on making it more inviting and homey inside the shop. outside the signage is well done. and i think vancouver definitely has a cupcake culture. they’ll get people in the door that are curious and willing to give them them a shot and see how they differ from their competitors. pricey but so are most of the cupcake options in van. i think i’d definitely be up for trying more flavours. they shud have samples! esp as they try to gain market share in a competitive cupcake market.

I think Big City Cupcakes is better than Cupcakes. If I ever have a cupcake craving, I’d rather come here. I tried the red velvet and triple chocolate. Both cakes were moist and the icing was not too sweet. I’ve had icing from grocery store bought cupcakes and when they touch your teeth, they hurt! Not so at Big City. But I can’t completely rave about BCC’s cupcakes because they’re not THAT delicious. I think the cakes at True Confections are totally delicious except they’re a little too expensive for me to make it a habit of eating cake. You can tell BCC invested as little as possible at their 4th avenue location and I think it hurts the image of the whole business. They could make the store a little more inviting because walking in there is a little depressing. Black ceilings and cheap lighting? They should get a better interior designer. Oh, and if you’re wondering why there is no smell of freshly baked cupcakes — its because they transfer them every day from their kitchen in Burnaby and none of it is baked on site. If you want on-site freshly baked goods, try Butter.

This review is actually for Cupcake Diva’s on Broadway & Bayswater. Single mini is ~$ 1.25 Single«Big One» ~$ 7.50 We found the little ones hit and miss. Red velvet was dry and chocolate mint was ok. The«Big One» was blue — toilet bowl cleaner blue. It tasted that artificial. My belly hurt after eating it. I worry that my poop will be blue and not in a healthy blueberry kind of way.(To much info I know.) Updated: The batter is more like a pound cake which I like. There are varieties of icing(butter cream, cream cheese, other). I like the other sweet icing. The colors are nice but like I said above the blues and pinks taste really artificial. I do find them a bit addictive.

Cute looking cupcakes in an all white store. No giant toppings or insane flavor combinations. Prices were good and cupcakes were tasty and moderately sized…

even worst than Cupcakes. Someone gave us a few of these and they were terrible. they tasted like they were from safeway. worse cupcakes we’ve ever had! dry and gritty and the pink frosting was like sugar and margarine. EW!

We walked in and right away I thought it was weird that the store was silent. No music, no sound nothing. We chose the cheesecake cupcake and it was meah. It was not as good as the other place that is all pink, you know that one. So if its not as good and nothing is baked in house hence there is no ‘cupcake smell’ lure, how are they going to dominate Vancouver? Doubt I’ll return cuz barely 3 minutes away, I can get the real deal.

Question of the day: What do you do when you have a craving cupcake and a cheesecake craving at the exact same moment!!! BIGCITYCUPCAKES!!! There were probably less than 16 cupcakes on display when I walked in on a Saturday afternoon but I was told a new delivery was coming. so I thought to myself — I’ll come back… and sure enough 10 minutes later… RESTOCKEDYAY!!! After debating between Chocolate mound(which the girl next to me exclaimed that it is the best one ever), I opted for the Strawberry cheesecake cupcake. not as sweet. Oh boy oh boy of boy… pretty close to bakery heaven! There is CHEESECAKE inside the freaking cupcake… that is UNHEARDOF. ! The icing was to die for — full of flavour and buttercream strawberry goodness… i could eat it with a spoon allllll day. I picked the largest cupcake of the bunch(greedy me)… I just stood there at the side of the street, savouring every bite of my gigantos cupcake. licking my fingers… man people who saw me must’ve thought I was weird. What a way to enjoy kits fest… I want to try this chocolate mound now… and apparently, their blueberry cheesecake is the feature of the month. too bad it wasn’t in stock or ELSE! Not going to lie — not cheap. $ 4.15 for a cupcake is really a delicacy. But I guess they are selling it as a slice of cake persay. Once in a while is okay. If you package it up, they tie it up with riboons and such, but seriousy — can you really resist and waiting to take it home… JUSTEATIT!

Screeeeech(that’s the sound of my car brakes); kerplunk(that’s the sound of my farm fresh produce falling off the seat); yippie(that’s the sound of me as I skip towards the new cupcake shop) It’s okay to have a cupcake for brekkie right? Just opened yesterday, I entered without expectation. Good selection at 10 am on a Saturday and a very chipper cupcake-ista(like a barista?) telling me all about their Vancouver domination plan… Anything that gives us sweet toothed girls another dessert spot to shop and I’m all over it! Cupcake culture seems pretty solid in Vancouver so it might take some getting used to their new features: -«Free» cupcakes that are free of dairy/sugar/gluten(not sure if it’s all three of these) –Baked in Burnaby and trucked in daily.(While I like the sweet smell of baking, I can live with this) –Different pricing: one price for regular cupcakes, another for filled cakes. Now for the decision: New York Cheesecake or the Red Carpet. Red Carpet it was as the suggestion of the cupcake-ista. Then came the to-go packaging… a little awkward, but again, could be another culture change to get used to: a piece of black and white checkered paper(imaging New York Fries style) wrapped around the cake and sealed with 3 pieces of tape, a business card taped to the top. Hmmmm…(eyebrow raising) The suspense must be mounting for a description of the taste… ;p Fairly moist, good taste in the cream cheese icing, but it definitely could have used more icing for my sweet tooth. Definitely delish with tea or a coffee for breakfast… I guess there’ll be time to try out all of their new locations — they say they’re opening 10 or so.
