I’m an actor, and went here a few times when I living in Vancouver back in 2011. I just moved back for a few months for work, and needed to go from long hair and a beard to short hair and no beard. I made an appointment and went in. I saw Helen. The experience was very poor. I brought in a photo of what I looked like before I grew my hair out and had the beard. She was so hyper and talked so loud and fast, that it was hard to relax at what was already an unnerving experience — trying someone new for such a drastic change — especially when as an actor, my look is part of my brand. She insisted she go only half as short as the photo I showed her, and then would go shorter if I wanted. But then when she was done, I explained it was not short enough and I didn’t like the sides. They were too long and flared out. She refused to go shorter and went on a huge sales pitch to leave it, even asking another one of her customers who was in the dryer what she thought. Who gives a shit what she thinks? I’m paying for the $ 42 hair cut! I couldn’t convince her and finally gave up. I had shaved my extremely long beard before I got there and trimmed my sideburns myself just enough to leave something for her to work with. She didn’t touch them, so when I mentioned them, she got very frustrated. I told her she hadn’t touched them and they were crooked, She seemed to get super offended. She started raising her voice around the room to others that I was a «difficult customer.» I explained that I had done them myself and I could see in the mirror that one was longer. I said I have one ear lower than the other and she got more angry. Like laughing but with frustration and sticking her fingers in my ears hard and drawing lines showing me how she measures like some mother scolding her child, making a scene about how I was a «difficult customer.» All I asked for was my side burns to be trimmed and my hair as short and the same style as the head shot I showed her. I was embarrassed, and upset. I don’t like my hair. It’s not what I asked her to do. I was also surprised at the $ 42 bill. It never used to be that high. I felt like the quick hair cut she did was not worth it. I would have got a better haircut at a Walmart and what I asked for. I tipped her because I felt pressured but wish I could take it back. I’m not rich, I’m a struggling actor and can’t afford to go pay for another haircut to get what I wanted in the first place. This was a total fail. Avoid.

Needed a acrylic fill and fast and since I work upstairs from Axiom, I thought I would try this place out on my lunch hour. I even brought my own polish. The place supposedly opens at 9:30am but for some reason they didn’t open until 11:00am which wasn’t on their voice mail. Instead I saw a little sign when I went down to tell them that their overnight voice mail was on. I was a little turned off by that but I went anyway. When I went for my appointment the lady at the reception wasn’t all that friendly. No smile at all. I had stopped by once before an she was the same. If it wasn’t convenient I may have never actually used them based on her«friendliness». No the lady who did my nails was great. She was friendly and quite good at what she does. It took a bit longer than I am used to but luckily enough I am an early bird at the office so a couple of minutes doesn’t kill me. In the end I was happy with my nails, just wish it didn’t feel so rushed because for the rest of the day I felt like my nails were wet and would smudge. I will probably be back for emergency fills but not sure yet if I will make it a regular place to go.

Axiom is my regular salon. I’m a last minute person and they can usually fit me in on the day I call or the next. Because I’m last minute I go with whatever stylist available. Never been disappointed. I’ve had one pedicure(as a treat to myself) and loved it. Nice and relaxing. I think the name of the woman that gave the pedi is Meenoosh who is extremely pleasant

Had my 2nd visit about 3.5 weeks ago and now I am sitting here re-toning my highlights myself with drugstore toner. I went in for a full head of highlights. I wanted light brown(caramel). It came out very very blonde. The hairstylist said give it a few washes. It looked so white almost grey I had to go back the next day. I don’t know how any hairstylist would think that colour was caramel! So she retoned it the next day and it turned out a nice golden brown. But… it faded sooooo quickly that now I am re-toning it myself at home. Not sure if I will go back. You are supposed to feel relaxed and beautiful after getting your hair done. I felt STRESSED!

On Friday, I went in for a pedicure and paraffin wax treatment at Axiom Spa and Salon. My feet were in need of some renewal and a fresh coat of paint. However, the actual pedicure process and results exceeded my expectations! It was perfection unlike anything I have ever experienced before! My esthetician was very considerate, experienced and paid close attention to the details. The water temperature, nail colour choices, magazine selections, and beverage options were all on point. The massage(always the best part) was relaxing. I didn’t know what to expect with the paraffin wax… oh it was hot, but it left my feet feeling silky smooth. The polish application was a work of art. Seriously, there was not a smidge of polish out of place. I was very impressed with the overall service I received, especially since the prices are so reasonable. My feet look absolutely amazing… It seems to me they have an excellent attitude toward customer care and satisfaction. It’s apparent from the initial welcome to the final good bye, including all things in between! Going to the spa is a special treat and when it actually turns out that way, it’s a thing of beauty!

I’ve had bikini wax, massages, and hair done at Axiom. The service there is friendly and I absolutely love my hair stylist Kimiko. I highly recommend her, you’ll find that she’s super sweet and talented :) I love my new hair cut! The massage was a little heavy handed but it did work out all my tense muscles. The music they play in the salon is a little outdated… better music playing in the background would be nice. Overall I enjoyed my visits to Axiom and their services are reasonably priced.

I went into Axiom for a manicure and a rub down… Now… Don’t let the other reviewers fool you. When I want to get a rub down I want to feel it. Their masseuses destroyed my sore muscles. Sure it hurt. But a good massage hurts so good. I was still feeling the relief a day and ahalf later and for my money that is a good rub down… *** Now, as a dude, I rarely get my nails done but I had a huge meeting coming up and I thought what the hell, at least a bit of manicure around my cuticles, clean ‘em up a bit right? Well, they did a great job but were a little heavy handed. I didn’t bleed per-say but a softer touch might have been the way. Overall. I got the job and the ladies there made me feel like a God for the day so all round, South Granville quality at a decent price. I’d recommend them.

So just a forewarning, but I’m really, really, really picky about my haircuts. Here’s my rule-of-thumb: if you walk out of the salon looking like you just got a haircut(excluding massive changes, of course), you can find better hairdressers. It’s a weird rule, I know, but the best haircuts I’ve got in the past were the ones my friends didn’t even notice. Axiom is a decent place, and by the looks of it, offers many services from massages to haircuts, from coloring to nail artistry. The staff, specializing in each service, is very friendly. However, there were little things here and there that made Axiom just an-okay place for me. For example, when they gave me a shampoo, they didn’t put a towel between my neck and the sink, causing the base of my skull to feel like it was slowly being squeezed by a vise. I know, I know… small things, but all of it together adds up. Haircut was decent, but not the best. Undecided, at the moment, whether or not I will return for my next.

I seriously had the worst massage of my life at Axiom. The masseuse placed a towel over my eyes as I lay on my back, which I suppose was to shield my eyes from any distracting light. Well, I’ll tell you what was distracting… her massaging my neck, which made me feel like I was choking and then simultaneously pulling the towel over my nose and mouth so that I couldn’t breath. I couldn’t wait until the massage was over. I also had a manicure here, which was done by the same masseuse(on the same day). She clipped my cuticles and made me bleed. Good times. The first time I visited Axiom was to have my eyebrows waxed and that was a good experience. So to break it down: Eyebrow waxing — good Mani/pedi — bad Massage — run for your life!
