Had lunch here recently and the prices are great! We paid around $ 10 a person for HUGE portions. It’s definitely a hole in the wall. Parking can also be quite difficult in the area. There is a bus stop right in front of the restaurant. The place has a very authentic feel. Service is not very good, but for the price it’s a great meal to fill your tummy. In terms of flavour it was a little bland for my liking. However they do have many sauces to choose from.

Went to Adelitas for the first time and tried their homemade guacamole with chips and a side of rice and refried beans. I loved the guacamole that had a hint of lime juice in it, but the chips that came with it were a little overdone and everything else was a bit bland and lacking in flavor. Overall it was a good experience, the staff were very friendly and welcoming. However, the cockroach I spotted scurrying behind the wall was a turn off. I don’t think I will be going back there again anytime soon and if I do I will be watching my surroundings carefully, so as not to have any unwelcoming hijackers attaching themselves to my person.

Came to this place after browsing the Vancouver subreddit about hole in the walls. Yeah, this is a hole in a wall, but man! SOGOOD! The best part, they have so many soups. I like that because soup is the best during the winter. I had the tostadas and the pozole. The hominy in the pozole is nice and chewy and with the condiments on the side, you can alter it the way you want which is a nice touch. The tostadas were crunchy but didn’t fall apart with each bite which was great! My friend ordered the Menudo and the beef tongue tacos. The menudo stock was flavourful and the tacos were simple — the best part about them! The tacos didn’t try to be something it wasn’t and just let the flavours do the talking! so good! The sauces that accompany the chips at the beginning are delicious and will burn your mouth(well at least one) but in that right way. It doesn’t come at you like a man with a flamethrower but burns with a consistent heat. Overall, the best part is that the prices are really really really affordable!

My favorite little mexican restaurant in the lower mainland. I always have a michelada, is really good. Their green sauce enchiladas are fantastic, full of flavor; their sauce it has a corn taste to it that makes it perfect, one order should fill you up. I find also their lengua tacos(tongue) to be really good, if I’m really hungry I would add this to my main dish. Their service is good, their manu is good. The place is quite small, nothing fancy but I just love it!

This place is a hole in a wall. And that made it even more fantastic. The restaurant is not a fancy to impress you type, but the food was so scrumptious! As many have mentioned, we also found that everything was fresh and authentic and the prices will not burn a hole in your pocket. We ordered alambres with pork al pastor, a couple of tortillas and some burritos, and they were all fantastic. The waitress was very nice, pleasant and courteous and kept on checking back to make sure everything was great with our meal. You should give this place a try!

I’m a California girl and have been pretty spoiled when it comes to Mexican food so when I found this delicious place, I felt like I was home. I’ve tried their tacos, yum, their nachos, and several other items on the menu and I have yet to be let down. Their service is on the slower side, but the food makes up for it. A definite must try for you Vancouver Mexican food lovers.

The best!!! When I lived in Vancouver I went to Adelitas once a week and was never disappointed. The burritos were my favourite but every dish that I tried was delicious. The ingredients are always fresh and their service is top class. Whatever that green sauce is that they put out in a rubbermaid container is addictingly amazing. 10⁄10 will go there next time I’m in van.

This little restaurant consistently makes the freshest, most delicious Nachos I’ve ever had. They are INCREDIBLE. Fresh tortilla chips, very generous amounts of avocado, diced tomato, cheese, refried beans and more. Clearly made with passion.

Small Authentic Family owned Mexican food. We did a takeout last night and to everyone’s surprise food was too delicious. Even for those who are not fond of mexican cuisine. There were three types of salsa and hot sauce that were really superb. We ordered for burrito combo and chilli rellenos. Loved it.

Veggie Burrito($ 7): crunchy salad ingredients mixed with the beans plus a dollop of guacamole on the side makes for a filling tasty meal. The white sauce drizzled on the top adds a nice zing plus there are three more sauces available at your table. The atmosphere is simple but nice. Ill be back.

4 stars for the food and 2 stars for the service = 3 stars overall. The food is fresh, authentic and tasty. The horchata and chiles en nogada(stuffed poblanos in a sweet walnut cream sauce) were a bit too sweet, but that’s more of a comment on my preferences than a criticism of the food, as I often find foods too sweet for my taste. The guacamole was very good, as was the pastel azteca. Unfortunately, the quality of the food was let down by the poor service. My meal arrived lukewarm. My wife’s meal didn’t arrive for another 5 minutes, but at least it was warm enough. The waitress didn’t speak English very well, so we had difficulty asking her what to do with the extras she brought. It also didn’t help that there were no descriptions on the menu, just the names of each item and a small photo, so I had to Google everything before we could decide what to order. If you don’t mind sweet food, you speak some Spanish and understand Mexican cuisine, then Adelitas may be worth a visit. In my case, I’ll try another restaurant the next time I’m looking for Mexican food.

Not really good for those who are vegetarians. And portion are a little small for the price. But besides that, the food is good.

Authentic and filling. Aromas should be of BBQ meats, hot corn oil and fresh tamales. Ordered the taco al-pastor meat is juicy. Friend ordered enchilada and chicken mole. Soft burrito shell and hot and juicy, the chicken mole wasn’t too thrilling. Didn’t taste enriched or had much depth in it as a mole should, meat was a bit dry too. Good helping of Rice and Refried beans on the side. and crunchy chips and chunky salsa. the verde, and other salsa are as expected deliciously home made fresh with just enough heat :) It’s hard to decide which shop I like more Adelitas or El Caracol how can you go beyond Fresh?

Fresh. That’s something you don’t hear often when describing Mexican food in Vancouver. And I don’t really like using it, especially when grocers have nothing else to say about their food when it’s not local or organic.(Mini-rant over). When my new roomie suggested we hit up Adelita’s after we grew weary with hunger from furniture shopping(I would be so happy when i’m rich enough to NOT use craigslist). The pork enchiladas in green sauce are so good!!! I had to order them off the menu because they only meat options were chicken or beef. The waitress was happy to accommodate, especially since we were one of two tables filled on a Tuesday night. The bright green avocados and green sauce were presented perfectly I may have been hypoglycemic, but the tamales were also good, albeit a little soggy for my liking. But the flavours overpowered my senses and they disappeared before I could criticise the sogginess. The three homemade salsas accompanied the dish, and all were amazing. I preferred the smoky chipotle sauce. It wasn’t as fiery as the green or red, and could be applied with vigor. Décor is properly Mexican: it’s kept to a minimum and the money goes towards the great food. The chairs and cups may be plastic, but it’s worth it. Definitely worth checking out if you’re craving Mexican and you’re on a budget.

I’ve been having some serious conflict about posting this review… I love Adelitas. And I do want people to have a fantastic Mexican meal… but I am also really selfish(only-child) and don’t want to have to wait in line. In the end, my desire for all you lovely people out there to experience some delish Mexican food won out. Now this is a hole in the wall restaurant. Located in what I consider to be no mans land on Victoria St. They are a cash only establishment, and not licensed. The décor is basic, there is no AC and the store front faces the setting sun, so it can get sweaty balls hot. BUTITDOESN’T MATTERBECAUSETHEFOODISSOFREAKINGAMAZING. I only ever get one thing, the veggie enchiladas which are not listed on the menu. It looks like they only have meat ones, but if you ask they’ll make you veggie ones. And not plain ol’ rice and beans«veggie» but actual sauteed veggies such as broccoli and zucchini. You have two sauce choices, and I always get the red. Plus your meal comes with rice and re-fried beans. You are getting a lot of bang for your buck. My dining pal always switches it up and has tried a variety of different meat dishes and is always satisfied. Ooooh and they 4 different kinds of homemade salsa that they bring out to you. Be warned that service can be s.l.o.w. Its family run and I think I’ve only ever seen two people working, the charming lady out front and the cook in the back. For two meals and two pops we end up paying $ 30 with tip.

Long story short my constant dining companion(CDC) and I were at El Caracol next door and had been sitting for 10 minutes without anyone coming out. He decided to shimmy on over to Adelitas to see if anyone was willing to take our money there. Mexican dinner success! Cash only. Daily specials. Authentic Mexican food. High chair for young-ins. A previous reviewer mentioned they got chips and an array of dips and salsas — that didn’t happen and I was upset about it. I’m sure it would have been delicious. My chicken enchilada with green sauce was perfectly seasoned and at the right spice level. CDC had the same with tomato sauce — he insisted it was bland. He was right. Green sauce for the win. Service was sporadic — but at least it was available to us. The waitress we got had minimal English and seemed a little shy. All I can say is be nice, be patient and enjoy the amazing food.

On the hunt for Mexican food on this night, and using my great memory, knowing there are a few places along Victoria Drive for this type of food. With the recent trend of this city, and the more popular places out there, I wanted to find a place that wasn’t crammed with people, less commercialized, and still serve up some wicked Mexican, and after a first impression, I think I will be coming back. If your looking for style and comfort, this is not the place to go, but if your looking for authenticity, you have come to the right place. This place is downright simple, a few tables set up, some pictures of mexico hanging around the walls with some Mexican decorations. The cashregister near the food window, but if you take a clear look you will also see the kitchen, and the two people(on this night) working. Nothing fancy, and your wanting tacos… wait a minute they don’t mix… so this should be good. The menu was quite vast, for a small place, from tacos, to salads, to burritors, and if I recall, a steak selection, there was about 3 pages worth to read. We went right for the tacos… as my dear was craving for this dish for the night… a choice of pork, chicken and beef. She wanted a variety of all meats, but 3 for $ 6 doesn’t get you this, so we went for the chicken. It didn’t take too long for the two in the back to muster up our simple dish of 2 tacos, For a ‘dive’ place like this, the food is very presentable, where they don’t make things look perfect. The meat is a little overflowing on top of the three corn toritllas, as they were all lined up in a straight row, and topped off with the chicken. This is finger food people, it doesn’t need to look picture perferct, and in some ways because of this, it actually looks good. The meat wasn’t overflowing, but they definitely didn’t cheap out. Throw a few lime wedges on the side and you have got a fine dish on your hands. Also the tackiness of the salsa coming in squeeze bottle containers that should be housing ketchup and mustard that arrived at our table just said something to us that we were in the right place. The tacos tasted great, with the addition of the spices they used to cook and make the chicken all tender, and the addition of the lime on the side, this was a solid taco. Adding their salsa just made this thing even more a treat to eat. There was a green one that was pretty good, and there was a couple speaking Spanish to the waitress, and eventually she packaged some of this creamy green looking sauce in a little sandwich bag, tied up, for them to take home, with the additional food they ordered to go. The first experience here was pretty good. Service can be a little slow, just due to the fact there is only one person working in the front, but that can definitely be overlooked cause your getting some pretty good food for the price. You don’t need to go to the heavily commercialized places for Mexican, as this place is probably more authentic than them. On my list to come back. for sure.

Formerly El Caracolito, this little joint is clearly a labour of love and it shows in the amazing food quality; fresh, unique, and delicious! The service isn’t anything to rave about, but it’s not a point of complaint either(keep in mind that on several occasions the server has also been the sole cook); simply, it just… is. The Chile en Nogada is perhaps the most delicious thing on the menu(if not in the entire universe), and that’s saying a lot as I have tried almost everything and everything is fresh and spectacular. I could also eat a truckload of the pork and pineapple tacos. These are an absolute MUST for any newcomer to this little slice of mexi-heaven. I dine here a lot not only because it’s delicious, but because this place is a hidden gem of the Kensington area and the people that run this joint are dedicated, hard-working, and provide beautiful home cooked food. If you choose to dine here, remember to base your judgements solely on the quality of the food and not on the aesthetics.
