Before the 2ndBIG renovation, it was a decent mall in two parts… I work in a retail store on the Bay Street side and we called that side, «the Maclean Hunter building». Now it’s all just called, «College park and we designate it by the major street the entrance is on. Yonge, or Bay. Before the renovation it was an odd assortment of boutique shops. The first renovation added a new wing off the south one which only has a handful of stores with an atrium corridor for plenty of sunlight. The second renovation is the major overhaul where sections were cut out and stairs put in. Before there was only two ways to get downstairs, from stairs long the south corridor and all the way over by the Bay street side where there were escalators and stairs down from there. Now we have several access points to both floors of the mall from all sides and entrances. Gone are all the small boutique stores and it’s been replaced by the mini grocery store, «Metro». The newest grocery store competitor is built as an extension to the upper atrium called, «Sobey’s Express». Both are smaller versions of their namesake. But not to fear if you need major grocery shopping done: just a short block east over from College Park is the new giant Loblaws built in the old Maple Leaf Garden’s arena. The, ‘try too hard to be hip’ like stores are all over priced sold by snobs with little to no training. Honestly the only thing I use here now is Dollarama, the Service Canada offices and access to the subway. The Bay street side underground is dying slowly. Lots of empty shops, and even Grand-and-Toy is gone now. If it wasn’t for the dry cleaners, Dollarama and the Service Canada offices, that section of the mall would be dead. Even the coffee shop, Timothy’s is gone… The linking corridor used to have tables and chairs, but for some odd reason they removed them. Now when I’m on that side and need to sit and the tiny food court is full. I have to go outside where the smokers are.

Cheap stores wit cheap layout in a rather upscale neighbourhood. Well what’s here? Let me me tell you. 1. Metro… hmmm… a poorly lit, cramped and ultra confusing store. It’s like China Town in overdrive. Visual cues all over, your ADD will act up. 2. Food Court… well, this is a no food food court. I don’t even know why it’s called a food court. There are five places to eat with similar menu everyday. By the way, did you know that there’s KFC inside? Yay KFC(sarcastic comment). 3. Carlton Cards… this place will go down, fast. 4. Marche… thank goodness there’s a decent restaurant here. Such a sanctuary. 5. Teriyaki… not bad. Your typical Teriyaki restaurant. Am I missing anything? Is the other side College Park too?
