Kids classes rock. Howard and Ana run an amazing sparkly little gem of a music school. It’s how I wished learning music actually was when I was a kid. The teaching style is so open and inspired to really pass on the love of making music as a form of expression for life, as well as, the fundamentals that will carry one through. Not to mention the all levels sunday afternoon open ukulele jams and other recitals and concerts they have going on.(they provide ukuleles for those that dont have one) So cool. Enjoy. And play for the fun of it. Our child always goes away buzzing and beating on things to his personal rhythms.

The school has been open for a while but I never ventured inside until I had to cover an event for Canadian Music Week. What began as a small group of people Saturday afternoon, swelled up to dozens as the day wore on. The Toronto Institute For The Enjoyment of Music is a great little venue. All of the events are situated in the front room which has leather couches and a few chairs. It can accommodate a large group of people and with a band playing, it makes for an intimate space. The TIFEM’s approach is bring to music back into the lives of people, who at one point, played it or learned it in school, but never kept up with it or had the option to explore it. The school’s focus about enjoying music again, about playing with confidence, making it a lifelong passion, and all in a friendly and supportive environment. The school offers different learning options like one-on-one classes, group lessons and workshops, and you can learn pretty much anything from guitar, drums and voice. Their website has a more comprehensive look at what they offer. If you’re one of those people who remembered the joy of playing an instrument, perhaps this school might be able to reignite your passion again.
