Very expensive, yikes! Went on a Saturday night and ordered 4 shots of tequila for $ 30! And cover was $ 10… Only redeeming factor was their proximity to some great poutine as an after bar snackipoo.

I just got back from«The social». All they played were like the reviews said, electronic music. It was enjoyable for my friends and I because we’re former party people, however. ideally we want to hit back to the clubs on richmond, because after a night of dancing, we wanted to eat food. except the only places that were open, was pizza pizza & house of poutine, which were pack. The place is not bad, it was full of college/university/mid 20 folks. However, the music was kinda annoying and semi hard to dance too~ A smirnoff was $ 7, and sexy on the beach was $ 8, 4 jack daniels on the rocks came out to a total of $ 28. Ideally this doesn’t really differentiate from the other clubs, the location is just pretty far. But, my friends and I were the minorities, consider the fact that we were asian. I think out of the whole place, I only saw one other asian dude. They also have coat check for about $ 6. The lineup to get in was the fastest line up, I have been through in AGES! Not a bad place to check out.

The social is a fun fallback west-end club. It plays house/electronic on main nights. If you’ve never been here, given how long Social has been around, it is either A. you don’t like electronic music B. you do not enjoy nightclubs C. you are from out of town. There seem to be a lot of reviews written by types A and B. It seems unnecessary to write reviews of places that play music you don’t like. I wouldn’t go write a review about some Richmond area club just because I hate the music. As far as line-ups, people and bouncers, the Social is pretty normal for QSW; meaning way shorter lines and ok bouncers compared to Richmond or King/Brant area. I have not waited in a line longer than say 4 people. Last, don’t show up too early, if you really need to be in bed by 1am, then you are in the B category. There are tons on great bars that would be good. For C, if you like electronic music and ok crowds you’ll have fun here. If you are looking for mainstream, Top 40, R&B, you’ll have fun on Richmond street, if you are looking for upscale, lounge, afterwork, mature, try King/Brant area. Back to the fallback point from the beginning of the article, there are better places to go now in QSW.(Just keep heading west, =)

So, I’ll admit that I don’t really remember most of the night I spent at The Social, but I do remember having fun… so something must have gone right. As Vivian V can attest, if I spend the night sleeping in the bath tub, it’s a good night for me. A few of my fiends and I went to The Social on a Saturday night, kind of as a test run for our company Christmas party, since two of them were the party planners of said event and had booked this as our venue. We were on the guest list and since it was a test run I think I only paid for one drink the whole night, so that was very nice. We got there around 11pm and the place was DEAD, but was packed by the time we left to head to The Drake(I thought we were heading home, apparently I was wrong) at 1:30am. The place is cool, the décor is interesting, and the crowd is mixed, the staff are very fun and seem to enjoy their job, the bathrooms are ok… but the music SUCKED! I have to give it one more try to really make up my mind, and I might take Kate B’s advice and head there on a Monday for the $ 2 drinks and the crowd.

Monday night drinks are only $ 2! It gets really busy at around 11:30 — 12:00 but the crowd is awesome, I actually look forward to Mondays now

No, no, no, never, nein, nyet, non, not gonna happen. Never again will I attend the Social. Once upon a time, a couple years ago, I loved going out, and I actually loved going to the Social. $ 1.50 mixed drinks on Mondays! Seriously. It was a great time, there were great people, and everything was fun. Then all of a sudden, I’d have to wait in lineups to get there. They started charging more for cover, and the bouncers became huge assholes. The crowd began to change, people I knew from high school started to show up on random nights… And once I went on a Saturday and had to deal with a crowd of jocks and an «alternative» music selection. Nowadays, I’d call it a glorified Richmond Street club. Avoid at all costs. Unless you love douchebags, paying too much to get into a crappy bar and be overcharged for drinks, and using disgusting washrooms.

Considered a trendy establishment by many, I found The Social to be a bit much for my liking. We went on a Saturday night, and while there was no cover(always a bonus), the music was too loud, there were WAY to many people, and the crowd was way too pretentious for my liking. I actually witnessed a group of girls ordering a round of tequila shots and when asked for the $ 50+ or whatever it was going to cost them, they looked on is disbelief before frantically counting their change to see if they could pay the drinks. I wanted to high-five the bartender for her quick reaction at commandeering the shots! The girls eventually did come up with the money for the shots. I would not recommend this place to people looking for a good night out!

The Social is a trendy West Queen West dance club with a plethora of DJ driven nights. Mondays usually host local electronic music DJs and is hosted by local promoters, Doppelhertz. Thursdays is usually bigger acts brought by promotion power-houses, Embrace or A. D/D Events and the weekends are jam packed as the West End is fast becoming an alternative to the club district. The general rule of thumb is that weekly events are populated by local hipsters, that is to say artists and musicians and young fashionable University students. The cover is usually $ 5 during the week and more on the weekends. Musically, it’s always electronic, sometimes very cutting edge and a great place to dance. Drink specials are the norm, but the bar rail and domestic regular prices are still better than the club district and the staff is hot in that not-so-much girl next door way, but not the playboy bunnies on Richmond either. I’d recommend this joint to anyone visiting from another urban centre, who is used to a cut above the norm when it comes to their dance clubs. Check the website regularly for special events and DJ lineup.
