I had my wedding here on August 2nd, and it was perfect! The staff were all wonderful to work with from beginning to end, and were very professional and extremely organized. Everyone I worked with at the Burroughes was also so accommodating! On the day of, there was an issue with the elevator in the morning and the day-of coordinator quickly got a handle of the situation and made sure that it was up and running well before any guests arrived. She also helped to calm me down and reassured me that it would be fixed in a timely fashion. I would highly recommend the venue to anyone looking for a more laid back vibe downtown toronto. You have to bring in all of your own stuff(DJ, caterer, rentals etc.), but it all comes together nicely and on the day of the staff know just what to do, and make it look easy!

We went to a wedding here last night. It was a beautiful spot with a rooftop terrace and two rooms inside. The only problem was that the elevator was stuck for a while, and it’s quite a climb to the sixth floor in heels. Also, the rooftop is only accessible by stairs, which can be a problem for seniors. It got a bit hot with 140 people in attendance, and there aren’t really a lot of bathrooms(two bathrooms per gender, two stalls each) considering how many people this place fits. The smaller room doubled as the ceremony room and the dance room during the reception. The big windows give a neat view of the city and was a great backdrop for the wedding.

They turn off the water without telling tenants. The water is ice cold, no hot water. They recently fixed the AC in our office. The internet sucks. Avoid if you are looking to rent an office space here. The only thing good is the location.

I really don’t think this’d be a good wedding or party venue; it’s too hipster for that. I do think, however, that this spot makes for a good gallery space! I went to the Ryerson New Media show — Meta 2014 — and wasn’t disappointed. It’s a big space for a gallery; has some movable walls I believe, and has a few different rooms. Probably not the ideal space to hang paintings on the wall, because it’s so big… but perfect for sculptures or interactive exhibits or even installation artwork. Or a combination of the kind. One big plus — the terrace. It’s gorgeous on a nice night and offers a great view of the city.

My wedding was incredible, but sadly, I am disappointed with the venue. The space is beautiful, really and truly. It is spacious and rustic and perfect for a wedding. When we booked the venue we had a very friendly and capable co-ordinator. She left soon after and everything changed. During the next couple of months we were given a new point of contact twice. Communication was not great. We were still confident in our choice of venue at this point, plus we have already paid the deposit and the wedding was coming up soon. Caveat — This is a completely raw space. You have to bring in all of your own furnishings, catering décor. They have some available furniture(which we used) and a large enough kitchen for a caterer to work comfortably. There are two bars, one on 6th floor and a second on the rooftop.(which has a gorgeous view) I don’t really want to get into it all here, but we were not pleased. If you are using a wedding planner /décor company that has complete control and that will be on site all day to co-ordinate everything, and you need NOTHING from the venue staff, then go ahead and rent this space. It is beautiful and you will have a memorable event. Otherwise, its not worth the stress.

This Building is so true. It’s been there, despite it’s modern façade for decades. With the beautiful wood floors and brick walls, a rooftop terrace that a city-dweller can only dream of owning, and space to make it your own, this is a very hip space. Toronto has gotten amazingly cool, and the Burroughes is just one example. The fact that it sits atop ‘Crazy Corner’ where you are bound to see some old-school Queen West &#%^$^ go down only makes it more urban and cool. Even 5 years ago places like this in TO didn’t exist. Downside, if you are planning/hosting the event, this is going to require a lot of extra rentals– nothing on site. Upside if you are attending an event– lots of space to mingle with your hundred or so new friends.
