I’m a low maintenance, long haired type of girl who gets her hair cut maybe once a year, if that. But with that, having been here a couple of times, Ernesto has remembered me each time and always offers discounts to repeat customers. He is super kind and enjoyable to be around. He is also very detail oriented and artistic, really taking the time to help you figure out what works for your face. He even teaches you tips on how to care for and style your hair on your own after the cut. And the great head massage that comes with the wash and condition is a bonus.

I have to say it again — this place really is the best in the city. I started going elsewhere after the hairdresser I went to here left. Big mistake. I came back recently, and started to see Kate. She is just awesome and made my hair look great for the first time since I left.

I went for my first visit to Solis to get my hair coloured. Allan was the colorist and was professional and personable chatting with me throughout the process. The colour turned out great but was a little more platinum than I was looking for so I went back and Allan toned it again to give me the exact shade I wanted. He made the experience just as good as the first visit and reinforced his desire to make sure you as the client are truly happy. I highly recommend visiting Allan if you’re considering a change in your colour. I know I’ll definitely be going back to see him soon.

I rarely write reviews — good or bad — but I felt compelled to provide a warning to curly/thick haired women considering this salon. I decided to go to Ernesto on the basis of all the great reviews on Unilocal and google to have him fix a poor haircut I recently got here in Toronto. What a colossal mistake! I had beautiful, thick curly hair before I entered this salon. HAD! After hearing my story, seeing the pictures of my hair before my poor haircut and what I actually wanted(just a trim really to fix the shape), along with instructions from my former hairdresser(to which he responded«no instructions!»), Ernesto brought out a pair of 80s style thinning shears and proceeded to start 2 inches from my roots and pull the shears through my entire head from top to bottom layer, telling me the whole time that my hair was too thick and his technique would give me the look I wanted. When he was finished there was more hair on the floor than there was on my head. For this, he charged me $ 125 plus tax. I went home horrified, tried to salvage it myself with different styles but it is so thin, straggly and lifeless nothing can be done. I simply have to wait out the year or two that it will take to grow back the thinned pieces. When I called the salon to get a refund Ernesto admitted he «pushed it, but it was only because I had so much hair.» Isn’t thick hair the goal? If it isn’t and you want to look like an old woman with alopecia, Ernesto is your guy. The only reason this salon gets one star is because I got my money back.

Amazing place! I’ve had my hair done by two intermediate stylists and it was amazing both times! They’re all so nice and offer you drinks, A+ salon!

I went to Salon Solis today for the first time. It was recommended to my by a friend. I was thrilled with how my hair turned out! I had Cherie and she was absolutely lovely. She really listened to what I told her I wanted and she gave me some great advice. She really knows hair! I got a full colour and trim. She styled my hair using only a brush and blow dryer… and very little product but enough to hold the style for the rest of the day even after walking outside and being wind blown. I will definitely go back and highly recommend this salon. I would give 5 stars but I find it pricey compared to what I am used to paying out of province. However, the results were worth every penny! Thank you Cherie and Salon Solis!

My first visit to the salon was not for myself, I was with a friend overseeing her haircut as she was pretty anxious about it. I understood as I am also VERY protective of my hair. Her hairstylist and now my hairstylist at Solis, Lindsey really made us feel at home. I went back for a cut and colour. Being the first time I have ever coloured my hair, Lindsey really took her time with me and made sure I didn’t look like a hot mess. She also really understands that regardless of how long one’s hair is… A girl notices when an inch is cut off when all they wanted was a trim. She is not the type to chop off all your hair and that’s something I really appreciate. Lindsey really knows how to put her customers at ease and if you have a particular look you’d like, be sure to bring a picture and she does an excellent job in replicating it to her best ability. I’ve gone back since for a cut and a few bang trims(which were free) and I always go back to Lindsey because she’s the only one I trust! All in all, the best salon in Toronto and I definitely recommend Lindsey… Oh and the cappucino made to your taste that is offered by the receptionist really makes your haircut memorable :)

I started by looking for a hair salon that I could have a blonde hair color, that would really impressed me, no matter how much I pay. After spending alot of times looking I found Solis. There are so many good reviewsabout it, so I decided to go for it. And since am a muslim girl with scarf I wanted a private room to have my service. Hence, I called them and explained this to the receptionist, she was very nice and said ya we can do it, she offered me to have my hair service up stair where no men will be. I was very plessed, because most of the salons cant accomdate that. I came that day, and I was hoping to see some hair magazine to show them how I would like to have my highlight. Unfortunatly there were no magazines. I even thought the hair color book would help. But the hair stylist didnt have the blonde degrees. It was really frustrated to explain what color I want. Any way I tried to show her my old color and asked her that i wanted to have close to it, and i didnt want it to have dark blond. Final hair color wasnt as i wanted it to be, i really regreat trying different hair dresser than mine. I paid 180 $ and i wasnt happy with the color. I would recommand this hair salon for muslim girl or anyone who is requesting a private room. I would recommand you to have a photo of the style and the color you wanna have. I have to admit that they have an excellent customer service.

I’m a bit squeamish about letting people near my hair, and I’ve had a few dreadful experiences at some of the city’s so-called top salons. I went into Solis today with more than a little trepidation, not to mention a bit of a brassy mess on my mane. I left with lustrous champagne-and-butterscotch highlights and lowlights, not to mention a stunning blowout(thanks, Emily!). One of the salon’s owners, Dino, handled my colour and also my jitters like a total pro. 5 stars across the board for service, ambience, and most importantly: a gorgeous result. Bravo.

If I must, I will give Ernesto and this salon one star. I went in with hair to die for — almost to my waist, healthy and shiny — and came out with it at my shoulders. Layered like crazy. I absolutely hate it, and worst of all, I could not have been more clear that he was ABSOLUTELYNOTTOCUTITTOOSHORT. But that’s exactly what he did. If he had stopped showing off and throwing my hair up in the air to cut it like Edward Scissorhands. Or maybe if he had taken a break from flirting wildly with me. Maybe he would have listened to me say before he even started that I only wanted a 0.5 inch trim, and that i didn’t want it layered. He said he was«thinning» it at one point and asked if a full inch was ok to clean up some ends. I agreed but suddenly he is getting carried away. I told him MULTIPLE times, be careful, it’s getting short. Watch what you’re doing — I don’t want layers and this feels a bit layer-y. And then it was too late. When I left the salon I tried to convince myself that I liked it. But I played with it in the mirror at home and for the first time ever, burst into tears. I called him 2 days later and told him very nicely that I thought it was too short. He told me to blowdry it(thanks, I never thought of that), and said basically what do you want me to do about it, in two weeks you’re going to love it. Actually he didn’t even apologize. To his credit, he offered to refund the cost of the cut but I was so disgusted and upset that I didn’t go back to get it. I tried to forget all about it. I have never been upset about a haircut before. I’m a low maintenance person. But when you go in for a trim on long thick beautiful hair, and you come out with 7 – 8 inches less and a ponytail that won’t hold the elastic band anymore, it’s a BIG deal. It affects your confidence — it’s not just a haircut. Giving back my $ 100 is not going to fix it, Ernesto. You should have been more careful to start with.

I can’t believe this hidden gem salon hasn’t got much love on Unilocal.I just wanted to say that Salon Solis SAVED and CHANGED my hair! I had a really bad ombré done at another salon and I wanted to get it fixed, so I was booked the appointment with Kait. From the moment I walked in, the front girls along with Kait greeted with me with such a welcoming feeing. I explained my hair situation to her and that I needed her to save and correct my bad ombré, and she just did that! She explained what she was going to do and what looked best for my face. She told me that an ombré is a gradual process but she will do her best to try to achieve the look I am going for. She was very nice, attentive, and she had my best interests. She is such a great person to talk to and she always checked up on me to make sure my hair colour was okay. She didn’t rush at all and took all the time she needed to perfect my hair. The final result: I LOVEIT! I couldn’t ask for a better colourist/stylist and I’ll be coming in next month to have my hair toned and trimmed. If you want your colour done, especially you girls wanting an ombré, Kait is your girl! Highly recommend!

What a nice thing to be able to review a salon that has been around for years but has had no reviews yet. I had a hair appointment at Solis, and was really impressed with what I walked away with. Initially I came in and was ignored at the front desk by a brunette clearly involved in a heated flirt-fest with a guy called Clark. I was standing there for a few minutes and decided to sit down because she ignored me. Then another girl came over and asked me if I was being served, and offered me a drink while I waited. After that my hair dresser, Dino came over and introduced himself to me and I was seated immediately near the window. Dino says straight away, «I hope you like being Blonde» and indeed I was there to have blond streaks put in my hair. The whole experience was a bit like being jsuzzed by a celebrity stylist and he actually made me feel a bit important. He didn’t bother me with small talk and I didn’t make it harder by saying I needed to keep all my length. I explained I need a ballsy hair dresser to just give me the blonde I wanted, and he gave me that. My hair cut was nice too, a bit old for my taste but otherwise very low-maintenance as he explained he was trying to achieve. He pretty much gave me what my hair can do. I had a bit of a freak out when the 30% peroxide he put on my head caused an allergic reaction but he took it out like I asked and I still walked away with a nice colour. I doubt we would have known it was coming, I don’t remember having a reaction before or not. Anyway, highly recommend him, and the salon for sure. He asked if I was liking what was happening and checked if everything was ok. He was very nice about everything and didn’t leave me alone for too long not knowing what was happening. Even better, went to work the next day and got all kinds of compliments, and out that weekend with my new extreme colour that went down very well with the extreme sport I play. I had a block base with foils, and a hair cut for $ 159 inc tax, and he didn’t adjust the price at all when he had to wash the colour out. Yay…
