This store has slowly stopped carrying some products I regularly buy. When I encounter the cashiers, it’s a «hit or miss»…some are personable some not. While shopping there regularly, I notice some employees are very watchful of customers that it can sometimes be annoying. Also, the elderly customers tend to slow the express line, that I think the store would benefit from having a self-scan checkout. Regardless, the store is well organized, clean, and looks nice. I would like to add that it is a bonus this store is starting to carry specialty foods I normally purchase from Loblaws. I am adding to this review: Some of the new cashiers are unprofessional and sometimes do not give the customer their undivided attention. I’m glad there are other Sobeys stores nearby to go to… also glad that a Loblaws will be opening at Yonge-Eglinton.

This is my most frequented grocery store I love that they make an effort to create a small town feel in such a big city The ladies will make small talk with you and they’ll take the time to answer your questions Apart from that, well, they have the basics that you need. But it’s fairly small in terms of grocery stores. Most items tend to be overpriced.

Sobeys finally unveiled their completely renovated store at 81 St Clair Avenue East recently. The re-construction, for the most part, took place over about a month with the store fully open for business, thankfully. Finally, on the night before the grand opening they brought in an army of people and completely transformed the store into the new, and mostly improved, look. The store now has a much more open feel to it, and has added a larger deli counter, with a vast selection of cheeses plus and expanded bakery area offering wonderful breads and in-store baked goods. The only mild criticism is that they completely re-jigged the grocery section, moving things from one aisle to another which is confusing to long-time shoppers at the store. They have also added more cashiers to help cope with the after-work rush, and expanded the in-house Wine Rack store. The only casualty really is the floral department, which has been significantly reduced in size, but is nonetheless a ‘work in progress.‘ A most welcome change to the Yonge and St Clair area, Sobeys opened their doors several years ago after another national chain, who claimed to be ‘fresh obsessed’ but were clearly not, closed their doors leaving Loblaws’ St Clair Market and Bruno’s as the only neighbourhood supermarket choices. Having been residents at Yonge and St Clair for over thirteen years, we certainly appreciate the ease and convenience of the Sobeys store with their helpful, friendly staff and ever-present, gracious store manager who listens to the meeds and wants of his customers. So thank you Sobeys for being there for us, and congratulations on your fresh, new and improved look and expanded food line!

I actually like this Sobey’s much better than most supermarkets in Toronto, so by comparison alone, it merits four stars. They have a good selection of produce, including a variety of peppers including hot scotch bonnets and jalapenos, most of the herbs most of the time, and seasonal produce too. For example, this week I found fiddleheads there. They used to only be available at farmers markets and such, so I was impressed with Sobeys. It’s a good sized store, the best in the neighborhood for selection and price. As I work in the neighborhood, I pay attention to the lunch options, and they have a fair amount of pre-packaged salads and to-go hot foods for lunch. I like the side salads for $ 3.50-$ 4 as side salads are hard to find in this neck of the woods. They have a variety including greek, ceasar, spinach and garden salads, to name a few. So far, I have no complaints with this place. For a Toronto supermarket, that’s an endorsement.

Ever since IGA was bought out and the only grocery options became Sobeys, Loblaws, Metro and the multitude of overpriced ‘fine food’ establishments, a good grocery store has been hard to come by. This Sobeys is actually perfect for what I need. The proteins and veg that I like are generally good and it’s incredibly convenient with free underground parking. And if something isn’t great the day I happen to go, there is more than enough volume to find something else that is.(ie. if the salmon is bad, chances are that I can find an ace somewhere else in the proteins section… steak or pork and the always consistent chicken) They deliver fresh fish and proteins on Thursdays, so if you want the best quality, Friday is best. With regards to prices, I’m not really a bargain hunter so I can’t weigh in on how this place stacks up against others, but it have to say that it’s the most satisfactory of all the«all-in-one» places in city.

A million times better than the Loblaws in the subway or the Brunos on Yonge. A bit pricey, but great for grabbing a few things on the way home from work. Well worth the extra half block walk from the subway.

I’ve been shopping here regularly for two years and they have never pissed me off so, «Yay! I’m a fan». They can have some pretty good weekly deals like $ 3 dr. oetkar pizzas or 10 lbs of carrots for $ 5 is always nice. Some stuff can be expensive like their cheeses or meats, but if you stick with the produce, other dairy or canned stuff it’s reasonable. My one minor beef is that the post after work rush(7 – 9)can sometimes be extremely understaffed so you’re stuck waiting in line forever. My alternative is to shop after midnight so I can effortlessly push my shopping cart down the empty aisles. Oh yes, and the wine rack located inside that’s open late is hella convienient when I want to make my famous clam chowder at 11pm.

THISISMYLOCALGROCER. Sobey’s does the trick, but that’s where the buck stops. I do find the occasional deal from time to time, but I’m okay with the status quo because of the local proximity to the nest. I do find it much less expensive than the St. Clair Market(Loblaws), so hence I declare Sobey’s my local grocer. One huge bonus is that Sobey’s is open 24Hours. I actually did a $ 120 grocery loadup the other night and it was a ghost-town in there. Sweet.

I’ve got a bit of a love-hate relationship with this Sobey’s. On the one hand, it’s the only substantial grocery store within walking distance to me, and it has a pretty good selection even though it’s not huge. On the other, it can be very overpriced at times($ 2 for frozen orange juice!), but there are just enough good loss-leader sales to keep me coming back, grudgingly. It’s supposedly open 24 hours, but I just discovered that that doesn’t include holidays(in the middle of last night, of course). That strikes me as pretty stupid, since you’d think that the most likely night the average person would want to buy a frozen pizza at four in the morning would be before his day off, when nothing else would be open.
