Specialty: Crepes, Ice-cream, Smoothies & Cakes Location: 2323 Bloor Street West, Toronto, Ontario Hours of Operation: Mon-Sat 11am-8pm & Sun 12 – 7 Menu items: Hazelnut ice-cream, chocolate crêpe & ice-cream cake It may be getting chilly out, but the sun is still shinning and with the recent Day Light Savings time change, there is no real reason why ice-creams and crepes should not be part of a special weekend diet. After all, when is it ever too cold to indulge in what we like? It is as such that on a cooler weekend, I came to discover a unique spot in Bloor West Village called Simply Yummy. Tucked away in a little courtyard near the Windermere and Bloor West intersection, Simply Yummy delights crowds with delicious concoctions using only Greg’s ice-cream & Kawartha’s Dairy. The ice-creams, made with 100% milk and cream, are the perfect mix of yummy, sweet and smooth in one’s palate. Which is why Simply Yummy partners with these two famous manufacturers to bring quality ingredients to their shop. They also specialize in gluten-free options that are part of their smoothie and sorbet selections. In addition to ice-cream, owner Amanda Jasquith, wanted to bring to Toronto a bit of Paris from her own traveling experiences by introducing Crepes to the shop. I had the pleasure of indulging in their chocolate crêpe and was quickly remembered of what a true crêpe should taste like. A thin layer of freshly made batter that is cooked to order and it’s not overly sweet. The test? See-through pockets of what’s inside the crêpe. I call it the perfect thickness. On the same tune of all things sweet and delish, Simply Yummy also offers the option to take home a full cake of ice-cream or pre-order for that special occasion. Again, playing on the notion that fresh quality ingredients should matter, these cakes are made with the same ice-cream purveyors, giving them a unique un-matched taste. Buen Provecho, Viviana.

In a forlorn neglected courtyard at Bloor Street W and Windemere(Bloor West Village), you’ll find Simply Yummy. Established in 2012, Simply Yummy specializes in serving premium ice cream, Kawartha Dairy and Greg’s. Homemade crepes made from scratch, 100% fresh juice smoothies with no additional sugar and custom-made ice cream cakes. The reason Amanda, the owner, started this business is because she wanted to provide her kids and other mothers’ children with real ice cream and products they can trust are wholesome and fresh. She wanted to be based in a neighbourhood community in order to bring back that old-fashion feeling of a place where kids in the neighbourhood love to go and families enjoy taking a trip to get a treat. I’ve never been there before and stopped in for an early lunch today. There were lots of varieties of crepes, smoothies and ice creams to choose from! I ordered a Strawberry Bananza smoothie and a Chicken Cordon Blue crêpe(without lettuce … I’m not a fan of lettuce) combo … about $ 10. My smoothie was fresh and delicious! I watched as my crêpe was made. I ate it like a sandwich. The crêpe was good and with the smoothie, it was a filling lunch! I’d get it again but without mayo … I found the mayo a bit overpowering in some spots and think the cheese would be creamy enough. There is seating inside for three at the window … though it was a bit nippy, I ate outside at one of the tables. If you are in the Bloor West Village area, I would suggest you stop in for a crêpe, smoothie and/or ice cream!

I visited this location slightly by accident when I noticed some intriguing signage in chalk on the the sidewalk in Bloor Street West. Inside, wrapped around a beautiful courtyard with many benches, tables and trees were a few small businesses, most notably Yummy’s Ice Cream Shop. Slightly small on the inside, it felt cozy and a bit retro. Got straight to the point, ordered my usual favourite Cookies & Cream and absolutely loved it — I don’t remember if they said it was Kawartha Dairy, or Greg’s or something home made, but I’ll definitely be returning. I went before noon on a weekday, so service was prompt and with a friendly smile. I now have a new favourite ice cream place in the west end.
