Just got back from a Pillow Fight League show at the Mod Club. It turned out to be awesome and much more entertaining than I expected. The fights pit two girls wielding pillows against each other and are more UFC than slumber party. Expect body slams, throws, punches, holds, and pillow smothering. On top of the acrobatic beat downs in the ring there is a whole theatrical aspect to the show. Each fighter has cultivated her own flamboyant personality and corresponding witty name(Bobbi Pinn, Olivia Neutron-Bomb, PhDemon, and so on). And, the judges, referee, promoters, and so on seem to have equally interesting personalities. The audience was totally into the show and full of energy. Many of the audience members are clearly regulars, instantly booing when the apparently unpopular referee Ross Jeremy was introduced and instantly cheering when certain popular fighters were introduced. At $ 15 it was possibly a bit expensive but still well worth it. A great night out if you’re looking for something a little different.

No fellas allowed in this pillow-to-pillow combat league. Hard core gals rock it out in good pillow fighting fashion — no, they aren’t sorority girls on a «night-in» rampage(get your mind out of the gutter!). Still a fairly underground sport these events are popping up all over the place to small enthusiastic audiences. Where once fight club had the spot light on trendy matchups, these ladies are in the wake of their lime light and ready to take it on! With a website under construction( ), I’m left waiting for their myspace page to be updated(not since December of last year). Good thing I’ve got some insider information… more to be posted later. As for my review: I’m hesitant to drop the 5 star due to poor promotion, but as it is the way of underground sports they keep the 5 for being way cooler than I will ever be. Still not convinced?
