I took an intro to Thai massage course a few months ago taught by Drew(co-director of Navina) and Robin and really enjoyed it. It was hosted by the wonderful Mula Yoga( ) and was my first time experiencing this style of massage. After the course, I was curious to try out a Thai massage treatment at Navina and am really happy I did! Navina is housed inside Moksha Yoga Uptown, conveniently located steps from the St. Clair subway station. I wasn’t sure if it was going to be in a big yoga studio, but they actually have their own dedicated rooms, which are cozy and quiet. I had a 60 mins. massage from Drew and the time went by so fast! I felt relaxed from start to finish. I have had a lot of Swedish massages before, but the Thai style is quite different. You wear loose, comfortable clothes and there’s no oil. You are lying on a cushioned pad on the floor(like in the photos) and the therapist uses not just hands but forearms, feet, etc. and uses passive stretches which release a lot of tension. If you do yoga, you will probably love it! Even if you have no experience in yoga, you would probably find this really beneficial as well. Drew was excellent and good at checking in re: amount of pressure and focusing in on tight muscles. Booking can be done directly through their website, so it’s super-easy. Some of the clinicians are RMT’s so you can use your massage therapy benefits here. They also run workshops and more in-depth training courses if you are interested in learning how to practice Thai massage yourself. I’d highly recommend Navina!
