Wow. What a hair treatment, or rather scalp treatment! This experience was educational, relaxing, fascinating and very reasonably priced. The place itself is tastefully designed so my first impression was immediately a good one. I found the technology used for the scalp analysis incredibly interesting and informative. I consider myself to have healthy hair but my before and after shots made me see how dirty my scalp was, and where the clogging and potential problem areas were forming. The after shots showed a dramatic difference in the ‘clean up’. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that there are 3 different massages during the service(1 of which is ongoing) so you feel pretty relaxed the entire time. Of course, had I read the description of the service on their website I would’ve known this :) I walked out feeling like I had the cleanest scalp in existence but didn’t think my hair looked any different(not that it was suppose to or that I expected it to). What’s interesting is that I had 2 strangers compliment the colour of my hair shortly after I walked out of Kara’s so I guess the treatment gave me more than I thought! I did buy the shampoo, conditioner and scalp tonic, but felt absolutely no pressure to. I echo the same feelings as the other reviews and would describe the staff as very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Since I would like to maintain my healthy hair for as long as possible, I plan on incorporating these treatments into my beauty régime seasonally.

This place is hands-down AMAZING. Going to Kara’s Detox Salon was life-altering. These lovely people know a thing or two about proper skin care, or shall I say ‘scalp’ care. The specialist that takes incredibly magnified photos of your scalp is called a trichologist. A trichologist is a hair and scalp specialist, who diagnoses the causes of hair loss, breakage, thinning, disease of the scalp and treat according to the cause. I’ve come to learn that here in Canada we do not have many of these specialists, we have dermatologists who’s main focus is not the scalp and hair. I explained to the specialist I had been trying to grow my hair out for years with minimal success. I had been doing everything I thought would help my situation such as, putting oil in my hair and not washing it to preserve the ‘natural oils.’ After hearing him explain the oil and dirt actually clog my pores and cause the hair to not only stop growing, but start falling out! And eventually lead to itchy scalp infections! I was astonished. He asked me how often I shampooed my hair and after the ‘no poo’ shenanigans came out, I assumed once a week was more than enough. He goes on to explain your scalp is skin, no different than the skin on your face, would you rub oil on your face and not wash it for a week? God no! I quickly realized that people on TV and the Internet didn’t go to school to actually study the science of skin and hair — that I shouldn’t believe everything I read. I know it seems like common sense, but when the whole world is saying shampoo kills your hair, you believe it. I had been neglecting my hair for years thinking I was looking after it. After an intensive scalp treatment — I felt rejuvenated and enlightened. The specialist took a before and after photo of my scalp and it was a night and day difference, he explained I should keep my head as clean as possible and to wash it every other day or daily. Something I always assumed was bad for you, boy was I wrong! Also the girl who gave me the treatment was just wonderful at what she does and very kind. These people really deserve more traffic and recognition as they’re only a year old business. Don’t hesitate to make an appointment, you won’t be sorry! Best $ 80 I’ve ever spent, not just because of the incredible clean scalp, but the information I gained. Will definitely be back here and encouraging my friends and family to visit also!

Karascalp Detox salon is the most pampering treatment I have ever experienced. The foot massaging machine, the neck rubs and the scalp scratching almost made me forget the real reason why I needed to be there: to get my scalp cleaned up and detoxed! I had been experiencing itchy scalp for some time and thought this treatment might help. Well after about 40 minutes treatment including shampoo and more fragrant ointments rubbed onto my scalp, I left the salon with a feeling of freshness and cleanliness in my hair which I had not felt in years! Previously to visiting KaraScalp Detox, I was trying all sorts of DIY remedies for scalp itchiness, but also hair growth. I tried the famous No Poo method, avocado and eggs in my hair(left my hair and the bathtub looking gross), coconut oil, LUSH, etc. nothing worked. At the KaraScalp Detox salon, I got a serious wake up call when the salon manager analyzed my scalp with his microscope camera. He showed me that my scalp was intensely dirty and the dirt was clogging the hair pores preventing new hair growth. He made it clear that it was not a dry scalp that was behind my itch, but rather an oily and dirty scalp(he also showed me areas of mild infections)! I now understand that a lot of the recipes from Pinterest and and other DIY blogs have actually no scientific backing behind their preaching. And if it works for some people, these technics definitely did not work for me, they made it worst for me over the years! Anyway, I definitely recommend you to try KaraScalp Detox. The staff is friendly and professional, the treatment is *so pampering*, and you can buy the products they use, such as shampoo, conditioner, and hair growth scalp spray(which leaves your scalp feeling cool and tingly!) It’s all natural, a little on the pricey side, but well worth it. Enjoy!
