We actually went here for karaōke and it was an amazing time. Strange and filled with complimentary trays of deep fried snacks. The beer was $ 9.00 a pitcher and we were the only patrons for most of the night so we owned the karaōke machine.

You really do get what you pay for. The hotel is on the first floor, up a flight of stairs that might as well be leading to a hidden sweat-shop. At the top there is an imposing looking door with one of those fire-proof glass panes. When we reached, the door was locked. There was a sign on the door listing the owners phone number, and asked onlookers to give him a call. The owner greeted us in a few minutes. I think we woke him up. He was surprisingly nice, and his presence was a stark contrast to the gloomy curroundings. The walls were clean, but unadorned. There was really nothing there in the main hallway except for an unassuming counter-top. Now, what most people may not know is that Jun Jun also rents rooms by the hour(i believe the minimum is 5 hours). We were just looking to sober up before driving back home and found this to be quite convenient. The hallways are shady, but the rooms was better than I expected. Nothing fancy, just a bedroom with an attached bathroom. The sheets, counters and toilet looked clean and well taken care of. However, the room reeked of left-over smoke of weed, the kind that is impossible to get rid of. Thankfully, the bedding smelled like laundry, else we would have left. There was a TV in our room, and it did have cable. But the remote was dead, leaving us to change channels the old fashion way. There was only one light in our room, which if extinguised painted room in literally pitch-black; like locked in a box black. The room also featured a small window hidden in a corner. It came complete with blinds, and one to open and close it with minimal manual labour. However, these advanced window facilities were seldom used because there was nothing to see outside, and no outside light to speak of. All in all, I think my experience was satisfactory. I think it was the calm attitude of the owner that makes Jun Jun feel like a more comfortable hotel than it actually is.

I went there a while ago… To be absolutely honest, the service was HORRIBLE… There was a big stain and hair on my towel, the room was freezing cold, and the reception guy knew almost no English. And in the morning when I told him I was freezing last night, he started raising his voice and making unintelligible statements. Stay away if you don’t wanna waste money

I think this is a very shady out fit. On my very first stay here I went downstairs by mistake and saw a woman quickly trying to put her pants back on? I think there may be some massage palor type activity happening here. On my last trip to Toronto I got stuck at Canadian Customs for over 2 hours by no fault of my own. Come to find out the owner of the Jun Jun gave my room away. They leave stinking garbage in the hallways right in front of guest rooms. My room had no ac. The whole place is dirty and covered in filth as if no one bothers to clean up!!! This would be a place of last resort. I would rather sleep on a park bench then stay here. Which oddly enough I did do on trip to Toronto.

We had booked reservations about a month in advance. When we got to the Jun Jun Hotel there was no one to be found. Luckily we read the reviews on Unilocal and other places before coming and learned that others also came across this at times and simply called the owner who quickly came. However, when we did this he did not come quickly. 20 minutes later we called again. By the way he spoke it seemed as if he never left the first time, but he came soon afterwards. During both calls he was confused as to why we were there as he was not expecting us and stated many times that we did not have a reservation, acting like we were inconveniencing him by making him come down to his own hotel. Additionally, he stated that he had no available rooms because he was not expecting anyone. Coming all the way from NYC we were very disappointed, tired, and pissed. After getting stern with him and showing him proof of our reservation and a period of arguing he said that he did have a room after all… He said he needed 2 hours to have it ready as it was dirty from a «previous customer.» I was and still am ticked off that we had to prove to the owner that we had a reservation and already partially paid. 2 hours later we returned and it was obvious that the room was he and his wife’s spare room for when they want to stay at the hotel. The owner showed us the room but stated that he still needed to clean out the fridge. Inside the mini fridge was what looked like tons and tons of food that have been marinating in smelly rotting juices for centuries. It was obvious that it was their leftover/snack storage fridge that was hardly ever opened. It continued to be hardly ever opened during our stay as whenever we did open it the room was flooded with the disgusting rotten smell. The sheets were somewhat damp and smelled very musty and mildewy with hints of chinese herbal joint medicine ointment. There were many cigarette burns also. It seemed as if the sheets had not been washed for a very long time. I think they did not wash them before we entered because they did not sleep in the bed and just laid on top of the blankets so they thought it didn’t need to be washed. Boy were they wrong. The toilet made sounds as if animals were dying every time it was flushed and had clogged up issues. But this was to be expected as the Jun Jun Hotel is really an upscale hostel, something we already knew and were expecting before we came. Hostels shouldn’t have mildewy damp sheets and fridges that smell like rotting corpses however… especially nicer ones that try to pretend they’re hotels. Despite all this, the location is fantastic. It is right near Kensington market and chinatown and not a far walk form many other interesting neighborhoods and restaurants. This factor almost makes me want to give them 2 stars. The sushi restaurant below is boarded up and not running so don’t expect a coupon for it as is advertised on the hotel’s website or on

The web site makes this place look like a real hotel, but I have to warn you: this is actually an SRO, with monthly occupants and all that. The owner is friendly and not too shady as far as Chinese go(e.g., negotiates discounted rates if you pay in cash, charges you a $ 5 fee to pay in his personal parking space after he goes home for the night), and he actually keeps the rooms quite clean. I do wonder whether the place will remain this clean for long(since it only opened this year), but I figure it’s a good option if you’re looking to visit T.O. on the cheap.
