As a coffee shop, it’s OK. Nothing special, but fine. As a source for coffee– and tea-making hardware, it’s overpriced. You’ll find cheaper elsewhere with little effort, and better customer service to go with it. What’s truly bizarre about this place is that it claims to be super ecologically conscious, but ALLOFTHEPROFITSGOTOCLIMATECHANGEDENIAL. Seriously, Google«Green Beanery climate change» and see for yourself. This non-profit sends 100% of its proceeds to a lobby group that argues fossil fuels are the most environmentally friendly energy source. It’s mind-boggling.

Costumer service can be a tad putting off but if you can get past that for a second, it’s a beautiful cozy place to sit down and grab a coffee.

Oh the outrage! I’ve never understood our society’s compulsion to kvetch about tiny slights or random slips made by poorly-treated and poorly-paid service industry staff. What happened to customer service, you ask? Customer service died when we all vented our outrage at every Joe or Jane that made a decent living doing something that didn’t require a U of T BSc backed up by three semesters at Sheridan. The people who whine about a less-than-optimal pass of a latté are often the same ones that feel that service industry employees are often overpaid for their«menial» work. You know what makes this work not menial? Having to deal with you. Anyway, back to the task at hand. Yeah sure, they can be jerks. But being able to order a worldwide selection of beans online, custom roasted to one of six different roast levels, and pick them up the same day is pretty cool.

I’m not surprised to read about how awful the customer service is. I’ve been to this shop twice, once to buy filters and once to actually sit down and have a coffee. Instead of helping me with the Chemex filters, the guy at the counter just decided to tell me that they were the wrong filters once i actually paid for them. Fine. Then I went there for a coffee. «Can I have a coconut milk latte?» «What?» “Can I have a coconut milk latte?” «no.» Then a blank stare. I asked him what milks they DO have, and then he said they have almond, etc. Glad I can prompt you on how to actually do you your job. Really sick of Toronto customer service attitudes. Back to Starbucks for me

Don’t look up. Chunks of revolting dustbunnies everywhere. Oh, and the coffee is just ho-hum. Oh and the manager is grumpy.

The customer service is very bad and has finally driven me away from this place.

Green Beanery is my go to location for coffee paraphernalia. The service used to be 10 times better, but now it’s very nonchalant, and the staff appear to care very little. While I was there picking up an aeropress I decided to grab a latte, which was probably a bad idea as the latte was extremely mediocre. Having had many better drinks elsewhere, it’s hard to settle for something made without much care. Especially for a place called the Green Beanery which specializes in coffee, and coffee grinders, presses, espresso machines, etc. When I first stumbled upon this place I was in love, but now I would prefer to go elsewhere for coffee and otherwise.

I used to frequent this place but stopped after a while when i had a bad experience buying a coffee machine which they ended up not having.

The staff reminds me of what it felt like to be an teen factory worker, while growing up in Korea. I remember seeing the same dead eyes every morning. The warning sign on the front door was nice of them, making me just paranoid enough to hold my pee, I needed to catch up on the kegel exercises anyways. They’re so forward thinking that they don’t offer WiFi so don’t forget to bring your stone and chisel. Good thing the CSI coffee pub is just down the street.

The Green Beanery has several things going for it: awesome location looking out onto Bloor St. and the iconic Honest Ed’s, great décor, funky coffee/tea gadgets to explore, and a decent cappuccino(good ratio of foam to milk). It’s a great location if you are meeting someone for a coffee and conversation, if you want a quiet-ish study spot or to read a good book. Now, for the reasons I gave it 3 stars rather than 5. First, there is no wifi — I sat there with my laptop open and was surprised to find that a big coffee shop like this in 2015 did not have a network. Second, the cashiers weren’t the friendliest people — not rude per se, but disinterested? No smiles, warm greeting or enthusiasm… but maybe I’m just used to Starbucks. Overall, I was happy with my experience and will likely return, just not when I need to do anything that requires wifi.

Great space, decent coffee, a chilled place to chat or study. I love watching the street activity through the large windows which look out over Bloor and Bathurst. I normally order a ‘flat white’ which is sometimes greeted with ‘sure! Just a regular shot?’ Or a confused expression. Today however I was aptly told to order from the menu! I nearly laughed. Actually I did. But the lady was serious. So I stopped laughing and said ‘ok, just a latte then… but a flat white-’ ‘no I’m sorry. Just what’s written here’. Minus two stars on your account, ma’am. Oh. And they don’t have WiFi. Downer.

By rights, Green Beanery should be Toronto’s temple to Coffee’s Third Wave. It’s a massive space in what must be a former bank(seriously, there’s a giant steel vault and everything). Chic glass displays are filled with every kind of coffee brewing contraption known to man; from drip filters to french presses to vacuum pumps to espresso makers. Cold brewing? Pods? Manually or machine-ground? The Beanery’s your huckleberry. Even better, Green Beanery carries accessories and parts for your coffee equipment. After a particularly disastrous week when my glass bodum carafe bottomed out when tapped against the sink, I was able to score a replacement. I mourn that coffee still, but it’s a new day. Piles of eponymous green coffee beans greet you as you enter, awaiting prcious roastification. It’s a warmer greeting than you get from the staff, who like most baristas in this city sport all-black uniforms, matching beards, regulation piercings and standard-issue sailor-jerry-eque tattoos… unique in their conformity, they pull espresso shots and serve up saran-wrapped treats, never smiling, just carrying on. Ask them a question, and they’ll answer readily and fully, if not happily… a weird combination of strong product knowledge and minimal customer service. I’d never advocate for drinking at work, but a little caffeine might help this crew. Coffee itself is good, which given the setting is somehow not quite good enough. With fresh beans available to roast on-site, and enough brewing equipment and expertise to write a book, you’d think the brew would have more heft. As it is, it’s often just the wrong side of thin and bitter. Espresso-based drinks are better, but it seems like they’re often indifferently-made. I long for the coffee-geekery of the Sam James or I Deal folks, even if those locations are mostly just takeout. Taken together, the Green Beanery is a fine place for a caffeine fix, and a home brewer’s delight. It’s a shame that a potential community coffee culture hub is just so… meh,

CSI was not available, so I had no choice but to come here. There is no wifi. The staff is kind of indifferent. I don’t expect them to smile all the time, but they look annoyed. The washroom is messy, looks like never be cleaned. The seat and table are close to each other. I heard the couple beside me talking about their wedding plan. The chair is not cozy, too soft. I found how much I love CSI. It is home outside home

This place is nothing special, except everything is overpriced. If you have lots of money and want to waste it, come here. Otherwise, I’d stay out. It’s not like the coffee here is good, it’s simply the fact that it is average at best. The food here was also kind of stale, I might have gotten unlucky. YMMV

Big location for dT toronto. Coffee is quite good, pricing is fair for speciality coffees. Very accessible by ttc right near bloor and Bathurst. Service is very friendly.

I was really really disappointed with this coffee shop. I wanted to order online from them because their prices were very good but when shipping costs more than the item you want then you have a problem. I therefore decided to just pay them a visit and called beforehand to ask whether what they had online is something I can get from the store to which they answered affirmatively. So begins my list of complaints: 1) What they had online was not something I could just buy from the store. What they had there was a tiny subset of what they had online. You would have to special order it to get it from the store. 2) The prices in the store were nowhere near what they have online. Had I known this I would have just had everything shipped. .5 lb online is less than $ 4 while its around double that in the store. 3) I ordered some coffee just to check the quality and I was rather disappointed. Around bathurst and bloor, I know several coffee shops miles better. on the plus side, there is no more debate in my head on whether I should order online. I just skip this, and move on to the next coffee shop.

GREAT shop for Green coffee beans and coffee related gear, a vast selection of varieties and equipment, the prices for green coffee beans are unmatched, the very cheapest in north america, they ship fast if you buy online. It’s somewhat funny to read about the coffee hipsters going in here and being disappointed with the décor or the speciality coffee that’s not even on the menu but the people were nice enough to try to make it and then show your gratitude by bitching about it online. so lame… Sadly guys the only way to truly have GREAT coffee, is to roast it, grind it and brew it yourself. Unless they are roasting it themselves, Any roasted coffee you are drinking in any shop in this world is stale and easily been roasted 6−9+ months prior to it going in your cup, that’s very stale coffee folks, mmmmm lol, gross… lol

I’d give them 4 stars for their coffee making equipment and accessories so I was hoping for a good coffee, but I was disappointed. I ordered a cortado, which wasn’t on the menu, but the barista seemed confident that he could make it. What arrived seemed pretty much like a cappucino, and a mediocre one at that. It was in a cappucino cup, had too much foam and was too hot. On top of all that, they don’t have wifi. If you’re at Bloor and Bathurst, why not walk 500m south and go to the CSI Coffee Pub at 720 Bathurst. It’s a bit easy to walk by(it’s downstairs) but worth the walk.

I came here to try just because I love coffee and yummy drinks. Arriving the space is interesting, not quite a store but not quite a café. It just seemed confused. I ordered a Mocha which is my usual go to drink. I find the prices are a bit steep for the size of the drink. I did not find the drink to be amazing or anything special. The cup size it came in was very small to even keep sipping during a conversation/coffee chat. Nor did it come steamy/hot. I don’t know what I dislike more, mediocre coffee or lukewarm-ish coffee. Nothing about this place really wows me, not the customer service or the coffee. I doubt I’d come back on my own, only if I was with other people.

I had completely forgotten about this place until I read about this place in a blog post. My first, and only, visit was bad. The latte was decent but the customer service here is atrocious. If you are visiting this place because you think it’s environmentally friendly and what not. It’s not. I urge you to do some research. There is a good review that’s been moved to the«not recommended» page about Probe International/Energy Probe and the Green Beanery There is nothing«green» here and the customer service makes so much more sense now.
