I’ve picked up things for breakfast from this bakery several times and have never found anything that tasted good. It’s an inexpensive bakery option in the PATH but if compared to other Chinese bakeries, this place is over-priced and more importantly the quality of what you’re getting is very poor. Nothing in here makes me want to go back.

I usually go for their fruit tarts or egg tarts. Their egg tarts are buy 5 get 1 free, which means they’re $ 1 each, a pretty good deal considering a bakery Downtown. Their fruit tarts are larger than most, but their fruits aren’t that great — ie. usually canned peaches and cantaloupes instead of blueberries/strawberries. They have dimsum there, but I find it very, very salty and with far too much msg.

Do you want cheap, tasty treats complemented by nasty stinkeyes and indifferent service? Do you want nicely prepared dim sum during your office hours accompanied by exasperated sighs and attitude when you ask if they accept any non-cash payments? Do you long for the good old days when decent Asian food were often accompanied by store owners making you feel like you owe them a debt of gratitude? if the answer to all the above is yes, then by all means visit Furama. As you may have gathered, the food is pretty good. Nice varieties of Chinese buns complemented with a pretty decent dim sum selection at very reasonable prices. Convenient, too! Not as good as Markham ones perhaps, but pretty damn good. But the service? Don’t expect much. As I can’t resist their cheap prices, I must confess I will come here from time to time. BUT I AIN’T GONNASAYTHANKYOUTONOBODY!

I’ve always liked the very cheap, tasty products from this place and have been a customer for a long time. But, I am seriously considering not going back due to the very poor service, especially from one staff member. As with all service and retail establishments, I am very nice with the staff. They have a tough job and I think we, as customers, should treat the staff well. Also, as a customer, you are often treated very well in return. That is, except the one girl with the glasses that is often there. She is incredibly rude to me, and I’ve seen her be the same with other customers. I’ve seen other customers make complaints about her, and directly too her, while I have been in the store. I great her and she just stares at me with a scowl. I have tried numerous times to give simple pleasantries to her and all I get is a stare and a ugly look back. When I say thank you, she turns away. I once made a complaint to the manager who said they would speak with her. She replied to me the next time I was in the store, which surprised me. The last 3 times I was there, it was back to the silence and ugly stare. If you go here, you get cheap tasty food, but it’s just not worth it if this girl is working. I will no longer patronize this place if she is working. I expect at least respectful replies while I am purchasing something and a response to my thanks that I give them. I will post this, print it and bring it to the store and see if that changes anything…

Asian buns in the path just like how they do it in Markham/Richmond hill. Quick self serve place and buns are usually fresh. Best part is their Hong Kong milk tea. Only place in the financial district that serves this and is a welcome taste indeed.

Pork buns and curry beef buns make a killer cheap lunch if you can find a nice side to go with them. Their buy 5 get 1 free deal means even better value if you can get someone else in on it.

I have been going to Furama in Chinatown for years and when I found out they were just downstairs from my office, I was delighted. They do offer a variety of pastries and HK-styled tea and coffee at a low price. Hear that? Low. Not decent, low. What do you expect for a pastry at ~ $ 1? You also have to know what to pick. There are some things that have lots of filling and some things that don’t. It’s like picking a watermelon. They all came from the same place but some have more juice and some have less.

I’m torn because I really, really wanted to like this place. I walk by Furama every morning on my way to work at FCP. There are always line ups, let’s face it, the place is hopping with a breakfast crowd. So last week, I finally decided to try it out on my way into the office, since I was running late and very, very needed some food! They do appear to have a wide range of pastries both sweet and savoury, and cheap at that. I purchased an apple turnover pastry for $ 1.80(couldn’t believe how cheap it was). The pastry itself was a good size and the puffed pastry appeared to be cooked to perfection AND the pastry was still warm… yum! Got to my desk and after getting my morning coffee from the office kitchen, I sat down to enjoy my breakfast… sadly, it was a huge disappointment. The filling was barely there, just a few token pieces of cooked apple and a few raisins, the pastry was a bit dry and I have to say it didn’t taste all that great. I’m not sure if they just heat the pastries up in the morning before putting them out on the shelves or what, but it was defnintely not fresh. After having tried the pastry, I’m guessing the lines are due to the low price point and not the good eats… so disappointed.

I think not. Priced decently being in financial district, but quality is poor. I cannot even tell its fresh even buy in the morning. Guess I need to make my way to Chinatown.

These Chinese pastries are sinfully good. You can get savoury and sweet flavours buns,(I prefer savoury ones like ham and cheese, beef curry, ham and onion), mini cakes and treats. And they’re super cheap, starting from $ 1.25, which can be a problem. The reason being is sometimes you end up buying too much and then you realize that you’re holding 2000 calories in a brown paper bag with grease marks. Ok, so these treats are incredibly fattening and will probably be the cause of impending fat ass growth, but sometimes, just sometimes, healthy snacks will just not do. It’s best to get my sugar fixin’ here. This shop is small, clean and it’s newly renovated. Similar to the shop on Spadina, you grab what you want with a pair of tongs and pay at the cash. However this Furama is take-out only.
