EB Games

Maybe I’ve been jaded by my terrible experiences in another EB Games (in an university town), but the service here is pretty decent. The staff are gamers themselves and are pretty knowledgeable about release dates, and they don’t discriminate by gender or by what you play. They still try to push the «extended warranty» on software titles, although… you can always decline.
I’ve picked up only new titles here. Recently, I bought Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the 3DS, and pre-​ordered Pokemon X. Both transactions went pretty smoothly, and the staff both times didn’t try to upsell new titles.
The inventory here kind of varies. There are an abundance of used titles (but you are better off buying used titles off of ebay or even at a Mom and Pop store), and a bigger focus on collectibles. (Like tee shirts, figurines, and trading card games.) The used titles are a bit more expensive — you’d be paying a third more than what you can get it elsewhere.
The new titles vary in condition. This franchise has a habit of putting their «display only» copies of software in the inventory as new, and selling them as such. The clerk will often pull the last copy out of storage, seat it in the case, and fold in the manuals. It’s clearly not new, but sold as such.
The service is better than most EB Games, and every time I go in, the service is quick and easy.

I have been to this place a couple of times and had no attitude from anyone working there. Maybe a little smug comment here and there, but that’s been the way with «gamers» since the 80s.
I bought my PlayStation 3 here, so there was no arguing the price as it’s a fixed rate across North America. I also picked up a copy of NHL 09 used for $ 10 so I was pretty happy with my shopping experience.
The place is rather large and they have loads of used games available for what seemed to be reasonable prices. Mind you I am new to the whole PS3 world so I might not have the insight the others may have. I was in and out in no time and the girl said «Have a great weekend with your new toy.» So that was kind of nice, right?

Is there any way on Unilocal to give a rating that is less than one star? Possibly a negative star rating? If there is, please tell me how so I can change my rating of this establishment because as of right now, I have over-​rated this dumpy video game store.
Playing video games since I was little has given me the knowledge of never doing business with EB games or their sister store Gamestop. They will overprice anything they can, their used games are only a few dollars cheaper than their new games and they never seem to have enough copies of the game you want. Also, If you’re a PC gamer, you’ll be lucky to find a PC section larger than one rack nowadays. With that, I rate all EB Games a one star rating. This location however, deserves less than that. Came here with a friend one night so he could pick up something. The workers here were snobby and had a «better than you» attitude when they talk to you. We even overheard one worker bitterly whisper to another that she was pissed we came since they wanted to close up early. If you’re looking for horrible service with your over-​priced games, come here. You won’t won’t be disappointed!

I also had a bad experience here… but I never thought to rate it until reading Mark’s.
As a woman coming into this store, I believe I was targeted. I came in to preorder Left 4 Dead Game of the Year edition as a gift for my brother. The guy says, «Would you like to get our extended warranty for another 8 bucks (or however much it was), because your Xbox can scratch the game and its ruined and you can’t fix it and Xbox won’t replace it». I’m no dummy, and I know this scam and said, «No thanks».
A week later I return to pick up the game, and the guy says «Oh check it out, the game is cheaper than when you preordered it». Score right?!?
WRONG.
So they knocked the new price off, and then sneakily ADDED the warranty without my permission!
That is just so sneaky and lame, I was pissed.
And just because I have a vagina does not mean they can take advantage of me!
