Located on Queen East, this little gem has great hot food, soups and sandwiches. The deserts are also very good and we often stop here for lunch as we spend the day downtown. I personally like the slow roasted beef chilli and the fresh soups are excellent with the fresh ingredients added to the broth at the time of serving.

Been a fan of Delica since my days living in Yonge-St Clair. Slightly less impressed with this experience. Location is a bit smaller. No table seating. Just a long bar with high chairs along the window. Also no water pitcher. Service isn’t as overly friendly as midtown either. And no tip option on the debit machine :( Food is delicious and great on the go. But my sandwich wasn’t heated all the way through… I expect more when I’m paying over $ 10 for some veggies between bread.

I have never been to the original Delica Kitchen location in midtown-land, but I was aware that they also own Paulette’s Original Doughnuts & Chicken. And then mid-2013 they closed Paulette’s down and opened a second Delica location in its place. Quite the sneaky way to establish oneself in the east end, though I guess one cannot survive running a business that sells nothing but gourmet dounts and fried chicken. The doughnuts remain, yes, though only a very limited selection is available in-store on a random rotational basis. But not the unspectacular fried chicken, which gets replaced by a whole brigade of what turned out to be Delica fresh meals-ready-to-eat goodies, like their sandwiches and amazing salads and chilis. Some gluten-free options available as well. I especially love the tuscan tomato soup, and you will too, because it is juicy, chunky and delicious. The place feels much bigger, even though all they did was knock a wall down and made it look like something of a cooking show studio set. The limited semblance of window-facing bar seating remains from the Paulette’s incarnation. A major qualm I have is, for all the goodness, it’s all pricey. Worth it once-in-a-while on a cold day when you’re too lazy to cook something for lunch yourself – just look for the classy«EATLUNCH» sign.

Delica Kitchen on Queen Street East is the newly opened store front with the giant EATLUNCH sign hanging above the bright open window that took over Paulette’s Chicken and Doughnuts… not sure if many people know this but Delica actually owns Paulette’s — they still make the donuts, but the chicken has gone catering. I walked in to a beautiful white storefront with bright lights and a cabinet case of sandwiches and salads on one side, and lots of sweet baked goods on the other… craving a baked good that morning, i was happy to see the many options that fancied my tastebuds including a ginger molasses cookie, specialty muffins(gluten free included) and chocolate delicacies that will satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth. The lady at the front was patient with me as I looked at all the goodies like a young child in the candy store. Next thing you know, she brings out two trays with«mini» size donuts and tells me that they are free for me to sample(AREYOUKIDDINGME!?). I grabbed a dark chocolate peppermint donut and a raspberry rose donut wit graham cracked on top. I also purchased a gluten free fig, cranberry and seed muffin on the go. I wasn’t sure what to expect out of the gluten free aspect of the muffin but it was not heavy at all. Although a little dense, the flavours were all there and packed with fruit in every bite. I could not stop eating it and was go glad to have made this purchase. I saved the donuts for the evening and I was not disappointed. Might I remind you that I tried Paulette’s donuts when they first opened and I was extremely let down by the lack of flavour. This time was complete opposite. With every bite, the flavours got stronger and I enjoyed it more… until it was all gone :( Today, I stopped in to check out what new items they had and I was happy to learn that the baker had changed since the opening of the previous store — maybe that is why I am completely happy with their donuts now. After all this — I recommend you go… NOW!
