Danforth/Coxwell Library

Stop # 7, Library # 4. I think I beat my record of most spot and libraries visited. Thou to be fair that was 3 libraries and burger place.
This remind me of Queen and Saulter where it look big from the outside but its not. That;s mainly because of the program/​community room on the second floor.
Seating is limited maybe 3 table, and computer about 4 – 5, not a great collection, its just a small library on danforth. Nothing to special.

Showed up here without making previous arrangement with six ESL students who needed to do some research for a project. This turned out to be a poor move on my part as I did not realize that this library branch is very small and also has limited computers available. However, I am very happy to say that the staff were incredibly helpful! The branch manager made temporary cards for my four students who did not yet have their library cards, and she made computer time reservations for them so each one could have some online research time. Furthermore, she went beyond that and invited me to come back again so my students could get their cards and so she could do a presentation geared towards newcomers to explain all the library programs. Nice!
Two of my students had trouble logging on with their temporary passes, and another employee quickly and competently solved the problem. After all my students were settled into their research, I had some time to browse the collection of fiction. I quickly found a bunch of books that caught my interest even though it is a smaller collection. All in all, we had a very pleasant and productive trip to this branch.

I miss this place! It used to be my library «home». (If you are a TPL nerd, you know what I’m talking about).
The only reason it isn’t my main branch anymore is because I work really close to the St. Lawrence branch. Hence, I can take care of my library business at lunch.
The location is just a little out of the way but close enough to the Coxwell station that I could easily pop in to drop off/​pick up after work or on Saturdays.
I’ve been inside at least one hundred times. The branch’s selection is fair for its size. The staff are all friendly and helpful. In fact, I distinctly remember checking to see if I have left my prized Tiley winter hat there. Sure enough, they were holding it for me.
The comment before mine seems to ring true – but I find that almost all of the branches are rammed with people using the computers.
This city’s public library system is probably the best thing going in Toronto. They provide so much and require so little. I’ve been in several branches and this is another great one.

The library itself is small but because of that its a little unpopular and there is not a lot of competition for seating or computers.
I mostly frequented this library for its Baby Time program for encouraging literacy for kids 0−6mo. The program starts at 10am and runs until 10:30, however the woman running it usually never goes to time. The program consists of two stories, rhymes and songs and usually brings in about 10 moms who drop in with their kids.
I would say this program is optimal for babies 4−6months, but if you live far and its a struggle to get out of the house — I’d skip this program since you may end up thinking that all that effort for a 20 min program is a bit of a waste.
