My boyfriend and I were in town for a few days and we really enjoyed our stay. Mr. Tahir was very accommodating and helpful and we found the area of Cabbagetown to be excellent for convenience of shops, restaurants, pubs, and public transport. Our room was a private en suite and it was facing the street though we were never bothered by any street noise. You are required to remove shoes upon entering the house which is fine. Bring your own slippers from home if you don’t want to be barefoot or use the slippers provided. WiFi was very strong in our room and we never had any problem. We also found the room temperature to always be just fine. The 505 on Dundas St. St is about a 3 min walk and took us directly to the spots on Dundas we wanted to see. The walk to Queen St W was like 6 min and a few trolleys take you down that street at well. There are a lot of bars and shops there. We walked to the Bata Shoe museum in about 40 minutes. It was fun because we got to shop along Yonge St. on the way back and explore old book stores and shoe shops. Public transport is very easy. I got back to the airport quite easily and cheaply using it versus paying $ 50 – 60 for a cab. The bed was large and comfortable, the water pressure was some of the best of anywhere we have stayed, the kitchen was immaculate and the other guests were very polite and quiet. If ever our travels bring us back to Toronto this will definitely be our first choice!

My boyfriend and I stayed here at a reasonable price for two nights during our trip to Toronto. Tahir was very nice and responsive to emails regarding the reservation. He did a thorough job of showing us around the house(it’s a house, not a hotel) and all the amenities included(full kitchen, shared bathrooms, parking for $ 10/night). The house was clean and quiet, other guests were friendly but kept mostly to themselves. While the bathroom was shared, there were two available and I never had to wait long, if at all, for one. Now that I’ve started with the pros, I must move on to my list of cons… The house was pretty hot. Tahir indicated that he kept the AC at a pleasant temperature but it only seemed to be actually running when he was in the house. He lived elsewhere and was only around some during the day, when we were mostly out. I was pretty uncomfortable at night because of the heat and humidity. The wi-fi is free but it didn’t work in our bedroom(top floor, at the end of the hall). We had to move about the house, which was a little annoying because we are from the U.S. and unable to use our phones in Toronto. But, the bigger issue I have is one of privacy… When we were given our room keys, there was no mention of the owner entering our room without our permission. However, we found that he had entered when we were gone during the day to close & cover our AC vent because our window was open(of course it was– the AC was not running when he wasn’t there!!). While I did not fear for the security of our things, it did make me feel a little strange and uncomfortable. I think this should be mentioned at the time of arrival and something should be provided in the room to secure valuables. I would have at least picked up my dirty underwear, geez. Mostly, I probably wouldn’t stay here again because the guesthouse isn’t very close to anywhere we wanted to hang out(as mid/late 20-ers) and the metro is about a 20 min walk, as is Eaton Center and the distillery district. We preferred staying on the west end of Bloor. However, we found a couple of nice local places nearby. I recommend Chew Chew’s for breakfast and Ben Wick’s for dinner/drinks/homemade ice cream!

Good enough for its price. Rooms are clean and nice. Linens are fresh. Bathrooms are shared for no more than 2 – 3 rooms(usually long-stay), so they are clean too. Kitchen is overfilled with utensils, but is tidy and spacious. There is a laundry(washer and dryer) in a basement. Guests are allowed to use it for free at Sat & Sun. I’ve stayed there for 30 days, and I felt there as in my second home from the very first week. Really nice and friendly atmosphere. A host is friendly, almost invisible, but keeping all the things right. Location is good; close to downtown(10 min walking). Neighborhood is nice, sunny, clean and safe. Streetcars are only one block either east or north.
