A long time ago when I first saw the Christie Pits Tiger I thought to myself: «Huh, cool Christmas decoration.» Then it was July and I walked by and thought«Oh. Maybe it’s the year of the Tiger???» Nope. Turns out this tiger guards not only Chritie Pits park but also Koreatown, and in Korea the tiger represents all kinds of sacred things. I am learning this from Wikipedia, so hopefully someone can one day further school me on Korean cat mythology. Regardless of it’s meaning, this lit-up photo op is a neighbourhood favourite. Who wouldn’t love a giant fluorescent cat in the middle of an intersection? Only a fool.
