Boxing Day lunch. Food was fantastic, according to we 4 diners. Janice, our server, was very attentive, friendly and a consumate professional. The prices were a happy surprise rounding out our enjoyment to the max. I would, and have, recommended The Kalmar as a great place to take the family for breakfast, lunch or dinner!

The food is always made fresh and is very good. Nice atmosphere, the staff is alway courteous friendly and happy. A great family restaurant and very good value for the money. That free salad bar with dinner is a nice touch. Haven’t seen that anywhere else in a long time.

lol menu offers pancakes, fruit cup or toast and potato’s. Clearly its 2 or 2. But they charge us for the cup. I asked them before ordering and they said fresh berries etc. After getting the cup. We realize the fruit is old and soggy. Waitress never visits our table but finally she arrives to give us our bill. I tell her I don’t want to pay for this small
fruit cup it’s soggy, brown and not fresh. She immediately tells me it’s canned and most restaurants sell it that way. No apologies just a rebuttal. She does remove it regardless. However I’m a chef 25 years. Don’t talk to customers like that. Besides that food was okay for the Newton neighborhood. Expectations weren’t high to start with. Never been there. Never wanted to come. Today we woke up late and made a big mistake blah.

We went in there for lunch. This restaurant caters to the regulars. The food was fair. But the real stinker was when I mentioned this it to the owner he stated «If you don’t like it don’t come back.» Great PR NOT! We will not be back.

It is one of Surrey’s last great Truck-​stop dinners. What you’d expect, good food and not to fancy. Worth a try
