Clean, well organized and friendly lady running the place. Came in to buy the sin city books. She had volumes 5 and 7 in stock which was more than I was hoping for. She also offered to bring in the rest of the volumes and shoot me an email when they arrived(probably about 2 weeks) which is way more helpful than other stores I’ve been to(sadly). They also have a promotion if you buy 10 graphic novels, you get the 11th free. Who can complain about that? I’m impressed and can’t believe I didn’t find the place sooner.

The store is clean and well-organized, their website and Facebook page ooze friendliness. Unfortunately, the owner didn’t greet us with such a warm welcome. My boyfriend phoned prior to visiting the store to enquire about a comic. Since there were a few in stock, he asked to put two on hold but was told«only one copy per customer». Even though it’s uncommon for local comic stores to enforce such a rule, it’s totally understandable and we respect it. My bf mentioned that I would be accompanying him so we would be purchasing a copy each — one per customer. With a noticeable sigh, she repeated«only one per customer», so my boyfriend asked the obvious, «can’t she put one on hold as well?» She scoffed, «only one per customer!» I then phoned to put a copy on hold but was asked outright by the owner«Be honest with me here, is it for you or for your boyfriend?», to which I declined for obvious reasons. Regardless, it’s none of her business who I was purchasing it for… a sale is a sale is a sale! One comic per customer is pretty self-explanatory, but just to clarify, there were two of us visiting the store in-person. Two customers. One comic per customer. One comic each. Simple?! Not so. Upon arrival, my boyfriend purchased an unrelated comic and when asked«is there anything else?», it turned awkward when he mentioned he had a comic on hold. Regardless of the pile of about 10 of the same comic on the sales shelf, she let out another exaggerated sigh and no words were spoken for the remainder of the transaction. I received the same awkward silence during my purchase. What should have been an exciting trip to support our local comic store ended up being an awkward visit. Overall, a nicely organized shop with poor attitude and a contradictory ‘one comic per customer’ rule. Central City Comix could definitely learn a thing or two about manners from the folks at The Comic Scene and Tazmanian Comic Connection.
