Food was decent, nothing special went there twice once for breakfast in summer and once for lunch in September. The pricing was good for breakfast, lunch is a bit more. The men’s washroom was pretty ghetto, and it was sketchy. Two to three years ago I had a friend who worked their, and management made them do some stuff, what would make you gag especially if you were the one getting the food. They also take a long time to pay contractors, which is ridiculous because without them they would not have been able to continue business.

This is a really decent small town restaurant that has sincere, nice servers. The food varies from the expended standbys and they have specials. This is Manitoba and Selkirk is a small town. To expect top notch seafood is silly. The seafood is ok. Everything else — burgers & steaks — liver and onions and desserts — all excellent. I like to eat here when I come to Selkirk

My husband eats at Barney’s whenever he is in Selkirk for business so we decided to go for a Friday night dinner. I was not overly impressed with my meal«Seafood Fry» there was too much batter and not enough fish although the 3 shrimp I received were better than the cod and scallops, in my opinion there was too many fries, I would have preferred more of the coleslaw. My husband had the veal cutlet with fries and gravy(he is a French fry fan and stated he loves Barney’s gravy). We shared a dessert, the skor cheese cake which was great, I would most likely return if in the area for dessert and coffee but not for a meal. I must say however the wait staff was very good.

This place was a revelation for some out-of-towners who’d just hopped to get a hot meal. We were staying out in the styx and realized we’d need to head to Selkirk for any chance at a meal out. After a 30 minute drive, we were just ready to eat. Husband had found something about Barney Garles online and what a fortuitious find it was. I had no idea there was a Polish influence in the Winnipeg area, but we came to find everywhere we went offered pierogies. None of them could live up to the plate we had here our second night in town. The pierogies were big, fluffy pillows of deliciousness and came absolutely covered in a bacon and onion mixture. Definitely add the Kuba to your order — it’s a polish garlic sausage and it was so, so good. I’m from Milwaukee — we have a lot, a lot of fresh-made sausage, but I’ve never seen Kuba before. I’m hoping I’ll be able to find somewhere that makes it. I would never have expected to head to an Irish restaurant 30 mins outside Winnipeg to have the best Polish meal I’ve ever had, but there you have it. The best food is unexpected food and I was so thrilled with this meal. Their pastry case was mouth-watering but we were stuffed, so we settled on a giant fudge covered brownie to-go. We at pieces of that for the next three days.

The rib special was sold out :(so I had the burger which was great! Our waitress was super sweet and offered to let my 2 year old help with the cakes. She was thrilled! Good food & great service!

Barney’s is a great little restaurant with an eclectic menu, with burgers and other greasyspoon type foods and proper dinners like steak. I always get the Barney’s Own Club Wrap and the Fish and Chips and they are the best versions of those meals I’ve eaten. I drive an hour from our of town for this stuff. Their fries are homemade and are delectable. I swear their peppering them with cocaine because I crave those fries. Great prices too. Oh and the desserts are to die for. They’re homemade and they give you generous portions. Everything from cheesecakes to lemon tarts, pies to brownies. Fantastic little place. Small parking lot though, and its always packed since the place rocks. Be there off peak to get a seat.

I was there in the summer and had their Cobb salad which was good. The deep fried pickles & dip are amazing. The desserts there look amazing and are huge so I took a piece of Key Lime pie to go and chowed down on it later.
