Was a good hangout in downtown Richmond for Greek food. Now they are closing their doors forever as the owner is retiring. Last day open is June 11, 2016

Great place… but it needs DELIVERY options. Would do take out all the time if they did.

I don’t know why this place has only 3 stars. I was hungry other day, and gave it a try even though I wasn’t impressed by the Unilocal reviews. I liked it a lot. The food was delicious, the service wasn’t bad at all and the interior pretty nice for dinner. Recommend to any one who likes Mediterranean food

Not fussy or pretentious. Well executed simple Greek/Canadian good. Chicken souvlaki was nicely cooked. Very moist. Restaurant doesn’t look like much from outside, but it’s a nice family feel on the inside. However, not as inexpensive as you’d think it would be.

The two of us had a delicious dinner here. We were staying the night at the Fairmont YVR hotel and wanted to go somewhere fairly close for dinner but did not want Chinese food, so we stumbled upon The Mad Greek. The server Christine was very personable and gave an excellent wine recommendation. I had the salmon kabob and was happy to know that the salmon was wild. It seems that half the time people don’t know what I am asking when I ask this. There were quite a few delicious and generously portioned sides that came with dinner and the highlight for me was the delicious lemony potatoes. My dining partner had the lamb which he said was very tender. We would definitely come back.

I love the delicious food, friendly service, and reasonable prices. Everything I have tried here is tasty and fresh! I would have absolutely given 5 stars if they offered delivery, one day I hope

I wish I’d read the reviews before walking in. Waitress Fail — Restaurant Fail. I sat down and started looking at the menu. The waitress approached before I had seen everything, but I didn’t yet see a GYRO listed. I asked, do you serve Gyro? She replied, yes. it’s Donair on this menu. I said, your donair doesn’t show lamb. Is it shaved lamb? She replied, Yes, but lamb for $ 1 more. I ordered a saganaki appetizer and a Gyro. The $ 9 saganaki came out, the waitress apologized that the flame had gone out, and it was a moderatly tasty appetizer. After awhile, the waitress brought the Gyro, and announced it as Lamb Souvlaki. A plate with a kabob of hunks of lamb, a large mound of rice, a potato, and some salad. I reminded her of our conversation that I had ordered a lamb Gyro, not souvlaki. She apologized, but made the excuse that she is bad at multi-tasking, and she wrote lamb on her pad. She forgot, and ordered the wrong dish. But, she can fix it. I’m not really interested in excuses, but told her I could wait for the gyro. 5 minutes later, the same plate comes out. This time the hunks of lamb(now cold) are wrapped in a pita. The rest of the sides are the same. I tried a bite, but it certainly wasn’t a Greek gyro with shaved lamb. It was tasteless and further, not what I wanted or ordered. I pushed the plate away and asked for the check. The dim waitress asked if I wanted the dish wrapped to go. I explained that it wasn’t what I wanted, didn’t like it, and would simply like to pay. She persisted in telling me she could wrap it, and wouldn’t take the fact that I didn’t like it to heart. I was prepared to pay for the mistake, and just wanted to leave. That’s when the waitress and this establishment earned this review and my one-star rating. The waitress had the gall to tell me that a gyro was a Turkish food item and a donar was Greek. And, this was a Greek restaurant. I kept my cool, explained to her that she was 100% wrong, and PLEASE get me the check. The waitress returned with the $ 28 bill, for a meal in which I only ate a $ 9 appetizer. I paid and left, but ultimately realize I never should have paid. If I special order something that is not on a menu, and it is not done correctly, it is my fault. If I ask a waitress if something is on the menu, and she tells me it is under a different name, and after asking a clarifying question, still tells me that’s what I want… it is the waitress/restaurant’s fault. The waitress even commented that she felt so badly, as she ran my credit card for the total amount. REALLY? Is she not authorized to fix her own error??? Conclusion: Skip this restaurant. You, and your money, can do much better.

Service is, as a lot of people complained about, does need help. Even when entering the place the hostess is all frown. She only smiles at regulars and seems like she doesn’t wanna serve us. Service is slow, even asking for the bill or take out seems to take forever. The food is decent but pretty pricey… Unless if you dont care about the price, then the food is enjoyable.

Decent food but slightly pricey. Most of the time their food is fresh and taste good. Their chicken souvlaki, when moist, taste really good. I would come here more often if it wasn’t so pricey compare to others. Their customer service is decent but could be better. No bad experiences so far.

One of few Greek restaurants unless in Stevenson. Reasonable price for what you get… seating is plenty so, little to no wait if eating last minute.

You have to be mad to eat at this restaurant! I can safely say that you will NOT be pleased to eat here. I have eaten Greek food in Athens, Mikonos and cities all over the world and I can tell you that this is NOT representative of how delicious Greek food can be. To begin with, the ambience is too dark… Greek cities are full of energy and colors. You should feel refreshed when you walk in. Instead it feels like a restaurant from the tv show kitchen nightmares. Clean it, paint it and redecorate! The appetizer platter did not look appetizing at all… and the taste was not far behind. Need to work on your hummus as it was too bland. The calamari was frozen calamari and the other items were also not worth eating. Left most of that platter. My order my chicken souvlaki and the chicken was tasteless. The potato was decent but a little dry and felt old. The rice pilaf was a little hard and the greek salad lacked fresh feta cheese. And to finish we had the baklava which was too sweet and had too much cinnamon and clove. The waitress was really nice and very attentive so at least the service was good. Bottomline Mad Greek needs a sanity check!

I ate here for the first time tonight. I had the Roast Lamb and I must say it is the best lamb I’ve ever had: juicy, tasty, and fall-off-the-bone tender. The roast potato that came with it was excellent with a hint of lemon. Rice acceptable and so were the vegetables. I am going to go back and order the lamb again!

My work colleagues and I have been returning to Mad Greek(when craving Greek food) for lunch for the last 7 years. Why? Because the food is good. The location is central in Richmond and there’s free parking, their service is always pleasant and efficient, and the food arrives hot and quickly. Also, they are always helpful at accommodating my colleague’s strict diet restrictions. My favourite dish is their meat moussaka, Greek potato, rice and veggies. All done perfectly(except I wish the veggies weren’t tossed in butter the last time. I’ll ask them to hold off next time.) Yes, the restaurant is huge, so it often seems empty. But the good thing about that is you always get a table, and you’re not crammed in beside another table of guests… competing with conversation(like smaller rooms). Give it a try.

This place can accommodate large groups. The service needs help and the food is decent. The lunch entrees aren’t cheap which is likely why the restaurant is never full.

Seated promptly when we arrived and the restaurant was very clean and welcoming. The prices seem fair for the amount of food you get. I just had water to drink but my glass never sat empty and the server even brought me extra lemons. The service was excellent, but it was early in the evening and they were not busy. I would recommend it to friends and family.

had the rack of lamb instead of the usual lamb chops, should’ve went with my regular lol. Still tender & moist, but didn’t have the oomph like the LC would. Calarami was ok, wish they had diced the red onions instead of throwing a few strands all over the place. Maybe i’m just a bit picky.

Over-priced and under-sauced! Why are you so mad? Is it because you are the lonely Greek resto in Richmond? Or because that’s the overall feeling when the bill arrives? Serves me right for eating Greek food in Richmond. But we had family stopping over through yvr with picky appetites. $ 55 for three dry tasteless chicken souvlakis and waters all around. Yikes.

Just got back from a birthday dinner with 15 other people and it was your typical greek restaurant. Very big place, seemed clean enough and food quality is decent and portions and big too! However, I thought the menu selection was a bit small but it had your typical greek foods do that was okay. I was a bit curious as to why the restaurant was ~15% full on a saturday night though. The food came out after around 30 minutes after we ordered but given that we were a table of 15 it was good enough. My friend ordered the chicken souvlaki and her chicken wasn’t cooked thoroughly enough. Luckily the waitress was pretty nice about it and took it back to the kitchen. I think I will come here again if I was in the area. It seemed like it would be good for groups because the place a quite big. I heard there is belly dancing too on friday nights!

One of the few big Greek restuarants in Richmond. The tables are nicely laid out and the service is friendly and polite. The menu is okay and has your regular calamari, souvlaki(beef, chicken, pork), lamb, prawn skewer and pasta. They also have specials such as steak and linguini accompanied with greek salad and bread. The taste is just okay, but you do get a lot of portion at a very reasonable price for about $ 20. Great for take out.

One of the few Greek restaurants in Richmond, this place produces consistent food and efficient service. We usually come here for our work lunches, and they’re always organized in serving our large group(around 20 people.) I’ve tried their roast lamb, calamari, and moussaka. All are good, and they also serve a good portion. I especially like the calamari because they make it quite well-breaded lightly, and tasty. Recently, they have changed their menu to not include Greek salad and instead include steamed veggies. You have the option of adding it for $ 2.00. I do commend them for always handling large groups effectively, orders are rarely mixed up, and food arrives in a timely manner.
