Went there for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Usually small for such a high end place. There were only two of us so only two dishes ordered(stir fried scallops with veg and yuk beng with salt fish). Both dishes were excellent and prepared with a light touch. The bill with 3 bowls of rice, one beer, tax and service came to almost $ 70, so not remotely cheap, but the quality somewhat compensates. Will try some of the specialty dishes on my next visit. Would be 5 stars if the ambiance was better.

The reviews and even a local say this place is amazing. I don’t get it. I’m not impressed. The chicken I had was so very bland. And the rice dish left an after taste I almost didn’t leave a review as the host and staff are so nice. Only thing that impressed me here was the green tea and the complimentary dessert(taro & coconut). I should have ordered room service.

My all time favourite place for Chinese food. They take great care in all their dishes, use the best ingredients, don’t use any MSG and put a lot of time and effort into preparing your meals. They always serve me and my family the best appetizer soup and taro tapioca desert soup with black sesame rice balls at the end of each meal. In-house almond cookies also are included. If there’s extra, they’re genius with packing some for take-away. My usual go to dishes are the steamed fish, egg white seafood, and pea shoot tips. The owners also take the time to come to each of the tables to have a little chit chat and make sure their clients are happy and enjoying their food.

Some called this the best Cantonese restaurant in Richmond, and they are right! Given the density of restaurants here, this is a great compliment, and well deserved in my opinion. We had fish(cooked 2 ways), fried milk, and egg pancake, all are excellent. There are only 7 tables so make sure to call ahead.

It’s absolutely a hidden gem in Richmond. Hoitong is small Hong Kong Style Chinese restaurant on Westminster Hwy and they only able to serve 6 – 7 tables for dinner. What’s so special about it? Well… They focus on ingredient and natural flavour of food which mean no MSG for the soup and dishes! Shouldn’t be good enough? I had few dinners there in 2 months before I’m writing the review. Coz they have so many signature dishes to make us to come back. Stir fried milk and egg whites with tossed with fresh crab meat + extra order with pan fried shrimp paste in bean curd — Must try dish! Egg whites so smooth and light but taste fantastic! Taro duck — It’s so crispy and tasty. The duck and taro wasn’t greasy at all! The sweet and sour pork — It’s crunchy and stir fried with fresh pineapples. So delicious! Double-boiled whole winter melon soup — it filled with mushroom, dry ham, dry scallops, fresh crab meat, chicken and etc that steamed whole winter melon in urn for few hours. We scooped out some winter melon with the soup, it’s so good! Overall, the dishes were decent and price was reasonable too!

Hoi Tong Chinese Seafood Restaurant is a tiny Chinese restaurant that offers traditional dishes with a modern twist served by the owner and chef, Mr. Leung Yeau Tong. It is close to Alleluia Café and is often overlooked. With only about 6 tables, reservations is a must. We came here one night for family dinner after hearing that it is one of the best restaurants in Richmond. It’s won awards: Chinese Restaurant Awards 2012. Service was prompt and food came out pronto. Daily Soup: Chicken Feet, Cow Gram and Peanuts: We could tell by the color density that the soup was not watered down. It is thick and intense.
Sauteed Pork Neck with Seasonal Greens: Chayote melon and black wood fungus are crisp and tender. Pork necks were cooked perfectly at a controlled temperature. Stir Fried Shrimp, Egg White and Fish Maw: A lighter tasting dish fit for elder grandparents. An enjoyable dish when mixed with rice. Fresh. Simple. Steamed Pork Cake with Preserved Salty Fish: A few nice cuts of salty fish steamed on top of the minced pork cake. A great traditional dish to accompany rice.
Chinese Deep Fried Young Chicken: Crispy skin and a tender body. Nicely seasoned but not too salty.
Daily Dessert: Taro Sago Sweet Soup: Semi sweet with a milky presence. It would be even better with some coconut milk. Hoi Tong reminds me of private kitchens in Hong Kong with its intimate setting and limited crowd. Definitely would come back again for some more delicate dishes««.
