On a cold and windy day, with 2 newborns and 4 hungry adults, we defaulted to Fishermen Sushi when the Vietnamese restaurant we wanted to go to was closed for the holidays. When we walked in, there were a few tables open, but we were told to wait.(???) We sat down, waited a long time to place our order, waited a long time for the food to come out, and waited a long time for our check. the root cause became obvious — there was only ONE waiter! Poor guy — literally running around the restaurant tending to all the tables. Operating any business requires most of your cost to be spent on rent and employees, stop being cheap and supply your shop with another staff! The food ain’t so great either, while the tempura was okay(deep fried things usually taste good), the sushi itself did not taste fresh. The irony of this sushi restaurant with its not so fresh fish located right next to the Steveson marina was not lost on me.

Came here while walking around Steveston Village and wanting some Japanese food. It was a Monday afternoon with the restaurant about 40% full. I ordered a Sockeye Salmon Sushi Rice Bowl which was around $ 14. There was a ton of rice in it, with furikake sprinkled all over. I believe you get 7 pieces of sashimi(if you order Tuna/Salmon, you’ll get 8 pieces in total). The salmon tasted fresh as far as I could tell. I could only finish a little over half of my portion before I have it to the boyfriend. He ordered the Mentaiko Yaki(maybe) Udon. Very nicely presented, however the portion was slightly smaller than what you would expect for $ 11. Tasted quite nice and not too salty(we’ve had that problem elsewhere). The ambience of the restaurant was casual with an assortment of family tables. Good experience for a place we didn’t know what to expect!
