Subway absolutely rules the sandwich market in the province of Quebec — they’re all over the place. I’m a Quiznos fan in the U.S., so when I moved here and saw that they now have a couple of locations in Quebec City, I was psyched. But they’ve got to do a better job than this if they wants to gain a following here. The food itself is still solid; better bread, more meat… but the tomatoes tasted low-quality. Don’t skimp on this, guys. It was more the presentation and attention to detail that made me question whether they really have a future in the area. The frame holding the exterior sign was rusty. There were weeds in the parking lot. The front door was dirty. The employees were listless and unsmiling. It was all just kinda… dreary. Don’t get me wrong, the sandwich itself is a better product that what you’d find at Subway… I’ll take Quiznos any day of the week. But the Subway I go to now and again(because it’s one of the few lunch places in the town where I work) is always clean, cheerful and professional. The manager/owner is usually on site, and clearly takes pride in the place. To make any sort of a dent in the market here, Quiznos’ atmosphere and presentation, not just the food, has to also be really, really good. This wasn’t.
