Très bon repas, bonne portion et très bon service par Mattew. Je vais revenir. Les chefs sont jeunes et dynamique. On a une vue sur la cuisine, j’aime bien !

Maybe I’m easily impressed because I live in the food desert known as the American Midwest, but this place is excellent. The décor is understated by design. The tables are picnic tables. It has a cool, authentic flavor without crossing over into the«trying to hard to be cool» territory. The omelettes, lumberjack breakfast, and other Québécois/Canadian specialties are excellent. Unlike a lot of the American breakfasts I am used to, nothing here is overly salted or creamy. The flavors of the ingredients are allowed to present themselves without the big hammer of tons of salt and cream/fat. And, on top of everything, this is inside old town, which is one of North America’s historical treasures.

Started out with the Cariboo Sangria. It was delicious! We also had poutine, shepherd’s pie, salmon tartare and the grilled cheese. All were great. Be sure to check out the restrooms – very cool concept.

One of the best brunch places I’ve ever been to! This restaurant just has too much to offer — from the amazing deco to the great service and the amazing food, there’s nothing that I didn’t love about this gem. The deco was absolutely on point. Wooden walls, tables and chairs, Christmassy decorations all over — super warm on the cold winters day! Best part was that we were seated next to a bricked fire place. Now, the food. Probably the best brunch food ever! I had the homemade smoked salmon crêpe. The sweet crêpe mixed with the salty cooked smoked salmon, covered with very savoury hollandaise sauce — topped with slices of hardboiled eggs, they were just magical! Too delicious for my mind to comprehend.(I’m getting hungry just typing these out). Every bite taken was just a burst of flavor, perfectly mixed. The service was perfect, our server was very attentive and very friendly. My bf and I came out of the restaurant, feeling very happy and content. Definitely an experience to remember! For fellow Unilocalers, if you happen to be in Old Quebec, don’t miss the chance to try out this amazing restaurant! To the owner and employees of La Buche, thank you for the wonderful experience!

Basically to summarize: very good food albeit small portions, a bit slow service, cozy ambience, nice waiters! We were ravished after a 3 hour trip to quebec city so we ordered A LOT of food. It came after around ~25 minutes of waiting which I consider a bit slow, but the wait was worth it. I ordered the brunch menu egg, bacon, hashbrown combo and it even came with a side of complementary toasts with peanut butter and jam for only 10 dollars! The egg was done perfectly over easy and the bacon was thick but crispy at the same time and was really good. The portions for my plate was pretty decent for the price but my other friends said theirs was a bit lacking and I agree. Mine was the best choice in my opinion. We shared the poutine and meat pie croquette and OMG the poutine was so good. Really unique since it was sweet from the maple syrup but savory at the same time(from the gravy). The gravy was soo amazingly seasoned and perfect. On the other hand, the meat pie croquette was good but i did not expect it to be so small! There was literally 3 tiny pieces of croquettes with a small side of coleslaw for like ~10 dollars. Overall the meal was very good, but for some dishes the portion sizes were a bit too small for the price. I would seriously recommend the poutine, french toast(my friend got it), egg/bacon/hashbrowns. Also, the waiters here are awesome and the ambience is very cozy and nicely decorated. Would come here again! :)

Visiting Quebec City for a few days/nights and we were looking for a nice restaurant for dinner with some modern Quebec inspiration and found La Bûche. Situated in the touristy area this seemed like an ideal spot for us to try out with a nice bar in front and a dining area in the back. Nice selection of beer on tap and ample dining area to enjoy it in. The staff were friendly and accommodating to our lack of French. Bread, pickles, and beets were a nice gesture for quick starters. The entrees we ordered were: 1). Grill Cheese /Le fameux grilled cheese($ 16) Seemed promising and was pretty excited to try this out but was very disappointed. Flavors were different with the mild Cheddar and prunes but very bland. The coleslaw was average but nothing special here. Portions were on the small side where I only received half a sandwich… I was still hungry after the meal :( 2). Quebec Shepherd’s Pie /Pāté Chinois($ 20) A very exciting choice for dinner but again was disappointed with the result. Mashed potato was very bland, almost tasted as if it was made from the«instant varsity». The corn wasn’t fresh tasting and the pulled meat was very bland. The washrooms were interesting and were unisex with a shared washing area(bath tub) in the middle of the room. Overall the meal was a let down and a bit too pretentious for their own good. Effort seemed to be there but the meal did not deliver.

Dear Vegetarians — if you want to eat at one of the best restaurants in Quebec, don’t come here because literally all my wife ate was the bucket of ice with maple syrup on it(sensational). To Carnivores — your trip to Quebec is incomplete if you don’t eat here. It’s fan-freaking-tastic. After visiting their sister restaurant down the block, my wife and I decided to book our next rendevous at La Buche. She obviously had regrets it but by golly was my tummy happy. Hands down best Shepards pie I’ve ever had. You do not have an X chromosome if you don’t try the maple toffee.

Did you know that Caribou and Reindeer are the same thing? Did you also know that you can may liquor from the blood of Caribou? If you’re wondering what caribou liquor tastes like you’ve come to the right place. You can try it in an assortment of ways, but I would recommend the sangria. The portions are larger than you may expect, so stick with a small glass! Did you know that Rabbits don’t have wings? I thought so, but la Buche must think that they do. It took us quite a long time into our meal to realize that we said our order incorrectly, but then we realized they wrote rabbit wings on the menu. Rabbit meat is phenomenal, especially when made in stew. Though I wouldn’t say the rabbit wings at La Buche were anything to write home about. The«spicy» flavor added no extra kick and the meat tasted far too gamey. For our entrée we shared a Canadian version of shepherd pie. It was extremely filling and the meat was good! Overall the best things about La Buche are admiring the waiters in plaid, washing your hands in a bathtub and viewing the Jesus art.

super hipster and friendly, but the service was painfully slow. the bloody mary’s here are very good! i wish the mix was a little richer, but it comes with some of the BEST bacon i’ve ever had and a large cocktail shrimp. yum! we got the lumberjack and the sugar shack plate. everything was pretty good but i couldn’t get over how slow our service was. we finished two rounds of drinks before our food came out and we asked for toast that never arrived. it’s a shame too, i think I would’ve found this place much more enjoyable had it not been for that — especially with that damn good bacon.

Beautiful setting, delicious food(especially the mushrooms in the Grandma’s Omelette) and live local music as an added bonus. The only drawback is that the service was slow(maybe because of New Years?) so come early if you’re hungry!

We stopped in this place just for dessert at the recommendation of the concierge and wish would could have gone back for dinner. First, anytime you get to sit at a table in the kitchen of a professional restaurant, it’s always fun and exciting! The desserts we were served were all awesome, and they provided us a sampling of some excellent apéritif’s. But watching the food being maybe and sent out of the kitchen looked awesome!

Wow! Can’t say enough great things. What a fantastic brunch spot! We came on a Sunday morning before heading to the airport and ordered the brunch plate. More food than you can imagine! Sweet crepes were to die for, beans, eggs, delicious meats(bacon is some of the best I’ve ever had!). My husband got this mushroom greens dish that was out of this world. There was this guitar/fiddle combo that came around and played and were just incredibly happy. Plus the street is so cute, I’d say this is a must-try.

Takes some getting used to, but this is an ideal stop for tourists who want a quick flavor of Quebec. Plenty of authentic Canadian and Québécois dishes served with a modern twist — «gastropub» is a good word(Valerie S.) but it’s not quite what’s going on here. We walked into what looked like a nice upscale restaurant, relatively higher prices(though in Canadian dollars), and then the wheels came off expectations. There’s an open kitchen that doesn’t feel upscale, it feels… raw. It feels like you’re almost sitting in the kitchen.(There’s a chef’s table there, for that matter.) The service is friendly, a bit hipster. They speak English fluently, probably because the Old City is so touristy. The restrooms downstairs completely threw me off. I don’t want to spoil it, but it’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen, let alone at an upscale restaurant. Hint: Before you do your business, locate a sharpie! And look just above the toilet paper holder for my website.(: Anyway, the overall experience was rather jarring, but has been growing on me ever since. Just enjoy it. Food settles this into a solid four stars. We started with the rabbit wings, because rabbit wings. We learned we’re the only people who eat the vegetables that come under it — so why not change up the garnish if it’s always coming back? The wings had a delicious maple glaze and were nice and crunch on the outside, but the meat was rather flavorless on the inside. It’s a unique concept, probably not the best though. Rabbit legs try to hold onto their meat a bit too much. I had a touriere dish of pork, beef, and venison chunks. It was, of course, hard to tell what was beef or venison, but there was a very nice portion overall under the flaky crust. Tasted quite good. I forget the sides, though.(Clearly not memorable. Vegetables or some junk.) My girlfriend got the rainbow trout, which was done to perfection. Unannounced cream sauce and side of salmon pasty slice(salmon and potatoes inside a crust). That was also good, though the menu is a bit too sparse for its own good. They accommodate gluten-free and other dietary restrictions, but nothing tells you that, nor do you get to know the sides before you order. We ran out of time for the interesting-looking, authentic-looking desserts. Maple sugar pie? Damn. DAMN. So it’s a bit weird, a bit unpolished, but unforgettable. I’d come back here and see if the four stars go up to five with another sampling.

Hands down my favorite. The décor is lumberjack chic and the flavor is basically what I imagine food in heaven tastes like. For brunch I highly recommend the sugar shack sampler, it basically comes with one of everything and was delicious!

Went here for dinner. We started with some rabbit wings for appetizer. Couldn’t help thinking how delicious Bugs Bunny is. I had what looked like a Flintstone sized ham and the wife had a tourtière pie. The meal was finished by a maple sugar pie and a poor man’s pudding. At $ 8 it should have been called a rich man’s pudding. Everything was so good we came back for breakfast the next day. My wife went for their French toast. I had the sugar shack breakfast which really has everything. The highlight was no doubt the French toast. I have had many disappointments with this food but this turned out to be the best I have ever had. Their secret among other things appears to be the use of cinnamon bread. We promptly made French toast using cinnamon raisin bread when we came back from our trip. I don’t think I can have it any other way now.

Alright, this gave me the wow factor after I enthusiastically destroyed the pork dish. It was a dish that had mashed potatoes, stewed pork and a huge braised pork shank, with lightly drizzled maple syrup… wow it was good! I have family coming to visit in a few days and this will be their first stop. They have draft beer as well but I can’t stop thinking about the food. The ambience is very casual, which I enjoyed. A must in Quebec!
