Went to this place looking for quality specialist Won Ton soup. This restaurant is actually a regular Chinese eatery. Usual dishes of chow mein, fried rice, etc. For Won Ton there were two choices of regular and special Won Ton soup. Service was attentive but the impression was that the waitress is used to serving indecisive clientele and providing or telling them what they should order and the portion size that she recommends. Overall not what we were looking for — a specialist Won Ton soup house.

The owners are really Lovely I ordered veggie spring rolls and my friend ordered egg rolls and soup. There was a problem with my spring rolls. They kindly took them back and made me fresh ones– very quickly too! I was really happy that they fixed my order, and the spring rolls were DELICIOUS especially the sweet sauce. The egg rolls were– good. The soup was okay too. I’d come back!

Typical Canadian-style Chinese restaurant. Casual and friendly service knows the regulars well and welcomes groups and families. Reasonable prices and a nice, clean dining room. I get the sense some patrons have been coming here for decades. I just wish the food were tastier. If your idea of Chinese food is cubed carrots and boiled chicken in corn starch with Worcestershire sauce on the side then the Won Ton House will be a comforting and familiar experience. Not too spicy or foreign tasting. Expect broccoli, not bokchoy. Plum sauce, not five spice. I was excited to try the Hunan dumplings which are so good elsewhere. But instead of an intense peanut and sesame sauce they came covered in a bland reddish goo. Seeing I was confused, the server explained they use mostly sweet and sour sauce«so the taste is not too strong». I guess that is what the locals prefer.

This is a classic Chinese Food restaurant — one of the originals in the Capital. My family & I have been checking in since their humble beginnings in Nepean, as a greasy-spoon in a Richmond Road strip-mall. We have been clients for well over 30 years. As a result of celiacs in my fam, I enjoy Won Ton House in secret, solo at work, via take-out or delivery. This is where I first discovered Szechuan — it is my kryptonite. This was also were I first came across almond cookies — the best in the city IMHO. If you plan on dining here in person, there is limited parking behind the restaurant on Warren Avenue, One thing I have always appreciated is the servers don’t rush you. Typical gatherings of 4⁄5 habitually consist of appetizers, rice as well as: — a pork dish — a beef dish — a chicken dish — a noodle dish I pretty well love all the spicy Szechuan dishes and I love their Yang Chow Fried Rice. They use a colorless soya sauce that I relish. I hate that they are closed on mondays! They are open for lunch from 11:30 to 2:30 but delivery is not available. They open a couple of hours later for dinner at 4:30, when prompt delivery service is happily offered. 7⁄30 — Unilocal Ottawa’s 30 Day Challenge!

I’ve been wanting to go to Won Ton House for some time now, but just never got around to it until recently. My husband and I went there on a Saturday evening. It was not as busy as I expected, as I often see that the place is packed for dinner, so we got a seat right away. I ordered the small wonton soup(as I heard that this restaurant is famous for it. It is its namesake after all). My husband is not a huge fan of wonton soup, so he passed on that. We ordered egg rolls, crispy beef, mango chicken and Yang Chow fried rice. The soup had 4 good sized wontons, 2 slices of BBQ pork, and a few pieces of lettuce in the broth. The broth was tasty and not too salty. The wontons had a fair amount of meat in the filling and the BBQ pork was nice and lean(not fatty like many Chinese Restaurants). Overall, one of the better wonton soups I’ve ever had. Maybe even the best in Ottawa. The egg rolls were also good. They also had a reasonable amount of meat and weren’t just mostly vegetables like some other places. However, they lacked any wow factor, so I think next visit I will try the spring rolls instead of ordering the egg rolls again. The mains were excellent. The Yang Chow fried rice had many large shrimp in it, in addition to the lean BBQ pork and some peas. Again, not too salty or greasy. Fantastic! The Crispy Beef was also delicious, although some pieces seemed to be overcooked and a little burned. I liked the sauce, but my husband thought it was a little too sweet. The Mango Chicken was fabulous. Big slices of chicken with large pieces of mango and snow peas. We ordered the regular portions(not the large portions) and I would say that the portions are a little smaller than most Chinese restaurants. The food here tastes much«healthier» than at most Chinese restaurants. The food wasn’t greasy or too salty. I didn’t feel like I had to drink gallons and gallons of water after eating here(which I usually do after I leave most Chinese Restaurants). Definitely an excellent place to go for Chinese food. It’s very traditional North-American Chinese fare, but orders of magnitude better than places like Manchu Wok or Cathay(on Woodroffe).

Old fashioned Chinese food restaurant that has a loyal customer base, friendly and efficient service. Don’t go here if you are looking for anything trendy. Do go here, if you like the standard Chinese food menu and want no surprises. Service is patient for those with kids.
