Service was really slow. First three wines we asked for were not available. Restaurant only had one wine chilling bucket for the whole restaurant. The white wine came unchilled. Red wine was warm. Food was OK but it took a long time to get from the kitchen. Just not the fun place it used to be.

Lunch time work-lunch, we arrived before the crowds. Served after other tables, waitress left before completing our drink order. Pizza so dry it was sent back. Food generally salty and not great. I’m an easy reviewer generally, but this place was pretty bad for a Friday work lunch.

It has been hit and miss. The first couple of times when it first opened as Vetta, following Paradiso, I went with the same friend twice and thought the food was very good and the service needed a little bit of ironing out. We had fried smelts, fried calamari, salads and pastas, all very fresh and well seasoned. The pasta dish was very nice. I came back with colleagues for a work lunch and the wait staff would disappear for a long time between orders and services. Ok, maybe it was just that one time. Everyone liked their food though. Today, a couple of us returned, had ok food and ok service. I had the penne with sausages and spicy tomato sauce. It was fine, not as good as previous times, and not for the price. There are better pastas downtown for that price and also with better service. I asked for a refill of water and was told to have the glass of water that was extra and that had been sitting on the table because a friend did not showed up unexpectantly while another of us had an empty glass of water. She did not want to go get more water which is odd.

I have been hitting up Vetta with friends on Fridays for the last few months. They have half priced martini Fridays, which have become a staple with colleagues. They have really lovely staff and on Fridays the appies are super cheap before 6. I highly recommend the smelts, calamari and the cheese plate. If you are gluten free they will do the cheese plate with apples and it’s amazing. They also have fantabulous salads. The only thing I would say is that the ambiance leaves a bit to be desired and we often drink them out of gin. Other than that, check it out!
