The vibe was great, and the bartender was very friendly, but it didn’t make up for the funny tasting beer, the mediocre food and the fact that they don’t take debit. I’ll definitely give them a second try. Nobody can nail it all of the time.

I just grabbed a burger here for the first time tonight and it was amazing! I ordered a peppercorn burger, which came with Brie, caramelized onions, garlic sauce and cracked peppercorns and it was one of the better burgers I’ve had in Ottawa(comparable to Chez Lucien). The fries were also great, as well as the service. Also, lots of screens all around for watching sports, and a fairly friendly atmosphere where it’s easy to talk to other sports fans. I’d definitely come here again.

Neighbourhood style sports bar with«Cheers» style atmosphere and regular patrons. Great for all major events. A true sports atmosphere with knowledgeable sports minded staff. Good draft selection and it is it cold! Pricing is very attractive. The watering whole for Shawn Simpson aka Simmer from TSN1200. Head Bar Tender is Robbie, ask his a sports relation question, he will know the answer and he will remember your name. The best location and celebration for all the big events.

On a stretch with many bars and pubs, the Wood stands above the rest. The Beer menu is great, 19 taps of good beer, plus Coors Light(and you can get German style 1 liter beer mugs!) and the food is better than most. The atmosphere is also very friendly and they have a large number of TV’s to watch the game(whatever game you want to watch). It’s also might be the best bar in Ottawa to talk Baseball, they usually have games on and there are quite a few Baseball aficionados that work at and patron the Wood. Only drawback is that it is quite small, so I don’t know if it will be good for your office party. The food is great, the burgers in particular are awesome and so are the Pizza’s, although the calzone’s could be a bit bigger. The food will be a little more expensive than most pub’s(but not a lot more expensive) but it is better pub food than most other places.

The food could be a bit better, and more reasonably priced. The menu options could be more flexible, but it’s a nice place to have some decent beer or wine and watch the game. Free wireless too, so that’s a bonus.

There are a number of drinking joints along this stretch of Wellington. I just had to stop at The Wood though because it bills itself as a wine and sports bar. What? Wine AND sports? No way! It has dark glass, so it is tough to see what is going on in there. But, be brave and give it a shot. Okay, first off — they do sell more than wine. They offer a number of good beers on tap — Harp, Kilkenny… Coor’s Light??? Okay, well most are good. And, they have about 20 bottled brands in the fridge. They also serve liquour and martinis. But, back to the wine. They have a huge menu, divided by countries — Canada, Italy, Australia, etc. And, you can have your wine by the glass or the ½ litre if you want to try more than one kind. Sports definitely is a theme — the tv shows all the big games. So, who knew wine and sports could go together so well? Definitely something for everyone at The Wood.
