Great gelato — good atmosphere — overpriced! 40 $+ for a family of 4 to get gelato, still love piccolo grande, better prices, but new owners? Let’s see how they compare. Still cheaper than a trip to Italy! :)

Came here for some gelato on a recent trip to Ottawa and heard about this gelato café. Went in on a Saturday afternoon and there was a lineup to the door. They had 20 flavours or so and everything looked really good. I ordered a small in a waffle cone and it was very filling. You can choose up to 3 flavours in the waffle cone so I went with white chocolate pistachio, hazelnut, and vanilla. Delicious! It was about $ 7.50 after taxes. Pricey! Overall a great place for a treat, gelato was tasty. I wish I could have tried their winning bourbon flavour though. Maybe next time!

Ermagerddd. The hazelnut Ferrero Roche gelato is so good. The fact that the weather was a perfect 22 degrees out made eating Stella Luna’s gelatos even more enjoyable. Store layout is a little weird though and I was confused where the line started and the place is a wee bit small but there was a steady stream of people walking in and out so it did not get too crowded. Also a little pricey but for a once in a while treat the price tag is so worth it. It was our first time so the staff were patient and helped us pick out flavours. Definitely one of my fave gelato places.

Stella Luna just won 3rd best Gelato in all the Americas at the gelato world tour in chicago and won best gelato in Canada. When you taste it you will instantly know why. I am a StellaLunaddict and I can’t get enough! 24 flavours in the summer including 6 vegan sorbets! Every single one is delicioso! Go and you won’t regret it!

I’ve been here twice, both times were met with long line ups — one was so long it was out the door and down a couple shops! Even with the long lines, the staff at Stella Luna still manage to pump out orders with big smiles. My favourite so far is the ferrero rocher which seems to be a staple. The sorbets are also good and are super creamy despite not having any dairy. I can see why it’s rated 4th best gelato in North America! Bonus: 40% off on Sundays between 9−10pm! Otherwise, it’s around $ 7.50 for a regular gelato after taxes

Best gelato I’ve had so far. The fruity gelato always hit the spot. It is sweet, smooth and full of flavour. I recommend trying Blood orange if you are craving something sweet, though it might not always be available.

Wow. I just inhaled a Pistachio gelato… And it was absolutely amazing. I tried savouring every bite but it was so good that I simply swallowed every spoonful. Delicious :) no such thing as a free coffee with check in though… Just a heads up to the Unilocalers.

What a treat! Stella Luna is great. I came here on a weekend when visiting my friends who lived in Ottawa. They suggested Stella Luna for its great gelato, and it definitely lived up to it’s name. I loved that there was ample seating area, and that they offered different items on the menu, such as coffee, pastries, and tea. That way, if you’re #1 isn’t gelato, there is an option for something else. I ordered a small, my flavours were: tropical fruit, hazelnut, ferrero rocher. All of which I recommend, they each had their own distinct but memorable flavour. My favourite was definitely the tropical fruit, it was so fresh to taste, and didn’t have a sweet aftertaste. Some people in my group got a cupcake, and I ordered tea as well. The cupcake was well made, the flavour was like a chocolate peanut butter strawberry explosion. It was a unique flavour and well executed. Reminded me of a strawberry jam peanut sandwich. The tea selection was also very interesting, their selection wasn’t your standard pre-packaged teas, they actually offrered loose leaf tea combinations, which I appreciated since I am tea person :) Overall, a definite must if you’re in Ottawa. They accept vicinity points rewards card, and also have a check in offer.

WOWWOW! I don’t know how else to describe the gelato at Stella Luna. The other reviewers weren’t kidding! Visited this café 2 weeks ago and have been dreaming of going back several times since then. We were a bit confused when walking in at first, there was a sign that says you have to pay 1st and then order/pick flavours, but it was so small that we didn’t see it. We were looking at the flavours and were told by the staff to go pay. So take note of that! I had a big cup but I would say a medium or small cup is plenty enough because they really load that cup full of gelato!!! You can have up to 3 flavors. I picked: Pistachio, Butter Pecan and… I forget what the 3rd one was, but it was obviously, not that memorable. Butter pecan was my favorite, you get the buttery-creamy taste and then pecan. Super delicious! Boyfriend had Mango sorbet and Raspberry chocolate. Both SUPER delicious! That mango sorbet is full on mango flavors, none of that fake stuff. And the raspberry chocolate is soooo smooth, it tastes exactly like the raspberry dark chocolate from Godiva! Amazing! Will definitely be going back to have some of my favs and try new flavors!

Quite possibly the best date spot in town. Do your fancy dinner or watch a movie — if you’re in the area though, don’t forget to top it off with gelato at Stella Luna. Instant stars for initiative, plus you’ve got the ambience to really make your date memorable. I’ve been at Stella Luna two occasions, and both are currently up there on my list of memorable dates. First one, my partner and I were running an errand somewhere in Bank St(south), and we were on a bus going home. On an impulse, I rang the bell just past Stella Luna because I saw that there was an interesting movie at the Mayfair(Cineplex Landsdowne was not quite done yet at that time)… and really why not? Done. Instant dinner date, gelato and a movie. Classic. At Stella Luna, we had really tasty panini sandwiches, and small gelatos for dessert. Amazing. I can’t even remember what flavors I had back then, although the lemon sorbet stands out in particular. Afterwards, we crossed over the street to the classic Mayfair Theater, bought some popcorn and enjoyed our movie(the contentious and overly long Boyhood — but even if we both did not like it, the night stood special still). Rather simple, but the spontaneity of the date, with the added gelato on top, really made all the difference :) Fast forward to last night, after some quick shopping and a bite to eat at Landsdowne, when I pondered exactly That date and an intense urge for gelato. Quick U-Turn after, and there we were again at Stella Luna, him with his two scoops of Ferrero Rocher and me with my Mango & Passionfruit plus Madagascar Vanilla(note to self: vanilla and Ferrero Rocher together next time). Not ten minutes after we sit, and two musicians start playing a jazz arrangement of Arcade Fire’s Rebellion(Lies). Again, simply perfect. When Stella Luna says«Sharing Life’s Simple Pleasures,» I got to say, they really mean it!

Favourite gelato place in the city. I like that I can order a small size and still get up to 3 different flavours. I haven’t come across any other gelato café that offers this, though they should because it is definitely a plus for both sides. Each time I come back when visiting home there a new, innovative flavours that I like to try. The quality has always been consistent and experiences are memorable. Plenty of seating inside for even the cold, winter days you crave gelato.

Love, love, love this place. Best gelato I’ve had! My friend’s mom is friends with the owners and they import most of their ingredients from Italy! The gelato is also super duper fresh and they make it daily. You should go between 9−10pm, you get 40% off! You get to pick a size(small, medium, large) and you get three scoops in each. The small is actually NOT small so unless you want massive amounts of gelato, get the small :) My personal favorite was the Ferrero Rocher so goooood

Try to come in the afternoon, this place is PACKED in the evening(the line extends out onto the sidewalk). Gelato is well priced(the regular is more than enough @ $ 7.50 w/tax) and there are numerous flavours to choose from. They allow you to choose three flavours, so I got caramel apple, Rafaello(white chocolate/coconut), and tiramisu. Atmosphere is cozy and stylish, with friendly staff. If you’re in Ottawa, make sure you try this place!

We walked in on a Friday afternoon and the place was definitely bustling. I had heard a lot of good things about their chili chocolate gelato(and it’s labour inducing abilities: p) so I had to try it. We got to taste test the flavours before choosing, and the staff were really helpful and patient with us despite the fact that they were busy. We ended up ordering the spicy chocolate, coconut and strawberry shortcake in a large size to share. The serving was bigger than anticipated, so take that into consideration when ordering! The spicy chocolate was divine, the right sweetness with the hit of spice at the end and it was cooling at the same time as well. I’d definitely order that again! The coconut was delicious but I found it on the sweeter side, as well as the strawberry shortcake. That being said they were both really good! The atmosphere is really nice, lots of seating and they have a menu of other items and drinks available if you’re not in the mood for gelato. We paid about $ 9 for a large, but it was worth the price for sure — and we split it easily. Overall a really nice experience, and I will be back to try the other flavours!

Really amazing gelato!!! Best two flavors are almond cappuccino and salty peanut ~~ I just visited Ottawa for three days and known that Bank Street is as fantastic as Yonge st. of To. So I wondered along the road and arrived the old South district with lots of romantic shops. Therefore, I opened Unilocal to find a good restaurant. Once I came into the café, I was sure that the place was never wrong! Five dollars for three kinds of flavors in a small size. Wonderful! I ordered the most popular two flavors which almost sold out during the dessert time. Almond cappuccino and salty peanut were soooo good, the pistachio was also very delicious~ The atmosphere there was exotic and interesting. Must try if you went to Ottawa. Although the location was a little far away from the central town… But it deserves an hour walking.

Stella Luna has a high reputation in Ottawa, and lives up to it if not surpasses it. The gelato that is offered comes in a variety of unique flavors, such as pineapple bloodorange sorbet, dulce de leche, and my personal favourite, pistachio. The gelato is so smooth and creamy and bursting with flavor. what’s great is that they let you choose three different flavors in one cup, so you can try a variety of flavours. They also overpack your cup with gelato — definitely no skimping here! It’s a great atmosphere and lots of room to sit and converse or have a nice date. I’ve been here countless times in the few years I’ve lived in Ottawa and it’s my number one go-to place for dessert. Keep up the great work!

I’ve been around for gelato in the area and Stella Luna is by far the best. I’ve gone to piccolo grande, pure gelato, etc. And they all seem to have something missing– save this nice little café. The flavours of their gelato change(and I might add are vibrantly delicious) and are offered at a decent price for the amount you pay. Their coffee? I have tasted their chai latte– dirty, and it’s not bad Definitely recommend this place to most everyone who comes to visit ottawa and wants an awesome dessert(they have great hours to accommodate as well) cheers!

I enjoyed a lovely lunch with friends. My Roman BLT with lemon garlic aioli was fantastic. I would never think to pair lemon with prosciutto, but the result was innovative and fresh. This is a busy location, but we were able to snag a large table at the back of the café. Prices were reasonable. Lunch for two with my sandwich, husband’s apple and caramel crêpe and a large fresh squeezed oj were $ 22. Husband says to say the orange juice was fantastic :) A very enjoyable experience and we will be back!
