I visited salon 130 in desperate need of a hair cut after an awful salon experience elsewhere over a year(far too far over!) ago. I just wish I hadn’t waited so long! Honestly it was between going here and another popular downtown salon, but I was being swayed towards 130 by other reviews on here, then a groupon popped up for this place and I thought it was meant to be! I’m always wary of a groupon beauty treatment if I don’t know the place but having read the reviews on salon 130 it was already on my radar. When booking my appointment I asked for Shannon if possible(going off past reviews) but understood if she wasn’t available as I was booking short notice. Luckily she had a spot free that afternoon. From the minute I sat down I felt at ease and didn’t feel worried about how my haircut would turn out. She seemed to understand exactly what I did and didn’t want and reassured me that she wouldn’t turn my hair into something I’d go home crying about(refer back to last disastrous salon visit!) She said that we could definitely sort out those split ends, take some weight out of my hair, while still keeping the length. The whole experience was a thoroughly enjoyable one. From the start I could see the cut going the way I wanted. It’s nice to have a stylist actually listen and seem like she genuinely cares about your cut. Nothing was too much trouble and she made sure I was happy with how it was going at every stage of the cut. On top of all that hair business Shannon(my stylist and salon manager) was super nice and I enjoyed our chat while she did my hair. I’m not a fan of false interest salon chats but this was totally the opposite, super easy conversation flow. I picked up some really useful styling and hair care tips for home too and felt totally comfortable asking for these tips knowing that the answer was the right advice and without feeling stupid. On the day I was there the other salon 130-er had called in sick so it was just Shannon holding the fort so I can’t comment on any of the other stylists or salon atmosphere etc as it was just her and I in the salon. If you’re looking for a new salon. go here. If you have a salon you are happy with. dump it and go here instead. So happy to have found my new salon and will without a doubt be calling salon 130 my new hair home from now on.

Unbeaweavable! — see what I did there? I’d better«cut this short»(that one was accidental). Great haircut at Salon130! Very pleased with the work. Not one of those annoying places that asks for you to make all the judgement calls«by shaver number» to get a cut! The staff at Salon130 are just wonderful — very welcoming. As a guy going in, you’re not going to walk in and want to «curl up» and«dye»(hehehehe). This place is guy-friendly. That’s right, feel free to walk in confidently boys– this place has a modern/“clean-cut” atmosphere! As for cuts, great job by Shannon. Though, not to «split hairs» the price is a little steep, but this place also has a groupon and Unilocal deals(At the time of my cut — I had a deal) so do your«part» and check your phone in advance. I’m planning on going back, I’d recommend trying this place and not«brushing it off.»

Excellent service and hospitality. I came here with Andrea B to get a sweet hair cut for a wedding we were going to. I expected an awesome and hot looking hair cut and this place did not disappoint! I basically look like Brad Pitt. I was greeted in a friendly and was offered a glass of water. That was a nice touch, especially since I was thirsty. Jenna was my stylist. She was friendly, funny, and kept the conversation flowing. She gave me this wicked scalp massage as she was washing my hair. Originally I wanted my usual hair cut(one on the side and short on the top) but I wanted to experiment with a new look. So i asked she can do anything she wants but it has to make me look hotter than I already am, which isn’t an easy task ;). She gave me a sweet comb over hair style. I love it! Also, check in and you will get 50% off! Side note: they do not take gratuities with credit card.

I am so thrilled to say I have finally found my new hair stylist! I think it takes a lot to find a stylist you connect with and trust, and I’ve been going from salon to salon the past few years trying to find that person after moving from Allure in Manotick. Shannon, the manager and master colourist at Salon130 has skill and talent, but she is so much more than that! I originally booked for a cut and colour, but had to cancel and reschedule the day before. I realized I really needed some damage control before I went to a wedding, and Shannon managed to fit both myself and Noah K in about an hour before we had to go. The salon is located right in the downtown core on Slater between O’Connor and Metcalfe, and is located in a corporate looking building on the first floor. It’s a small space, but they’ve done a good job of keeping the décor minimalist so it doesn’t feel crowded. I was surprised how many people were here in a Friday afternoon — definitely book a few days in advance. They have both junior and senior stylists, and have super adorable rates, especially for being downtown. Aside from Shannon, the other stylists are awesome as well. One of the owners, Michelle, is also a master stylist and trained at Rinaldos for many years, working on high profile clients(like the Prime Minister and his wife!). Each stylist seems to have a certain knack for different hair types, so let me them know what kind of hair you have when booking. While the cut and style skills of the stylists are great, they also place a huge emphasis here on showing their clients how to style their hair on their own and advise them on the right products, so their hair looks just as good the next day. I really appreciate this, as I always struggle to replicate my salon look at home. They sell Morrocan Oil products here, and several others as well. Shannon was so efficient in cutting my hair, and styled it beautifully for the wedding. Throw in pleasant conversation and an awesome scalp massage, and this visit was pure heaven! I can’t wait to come back soon or a full colour, and would absolutely recommend this salon, and Shannon, to anyone who will listen.

I had the best experience here today. I had the opportunity to get a cut, colour and styling and took Salon130 up on all three. Michelle greeted me when I first got there and she was extremely warm and inviting. It was mostly Shannon who took care of my hair and she honestly did such a phenomenal job. I asked for advice on whether ombré would work for me and she(Shannon) suggested that I go with balayge for a softer and more natural look. I’m so thrilled with the way it turned out. This was the first time I’ve ever dyed my hair and she just did a brilliant job. I was a bit afraid about the cut since I’m trying to grow my hair out, but Shannon listened to me and evened my hair out in a way that got rid of the unevenness and yet retained the length. Everyone who worked there was really friendly and made a real effort to ensure that no customer was left waiting. I really am impressed and have already booked my next hair appointment here for convocation. Overall, I’m super impressed!

I’ve been coming here since they opened. The staff is über friendly and you can’t beat the location. They’re not expensive and they know what they’re doing. They are definitely worth the 5 stars!

In Response to the Comment Made on My Review by the Owner: I was a walk in client, I did not«book» anything. I was asked if the colour service is all I wanted – ONCE! I did not repeatedly deny any other services. As well, being that it was my first time at your salon, I did not realize that you have a la carte service. Maybe your receptionist should mention this bizarre practice. I would have gladly paid, as I did when I left your salon and went to emilio’s a block down and had it blown out properly. I have never been anywhere where the stylist has expected me to leave with my hair wet! Your stylist was expecting me to leave that way. When I didn’t he offered what you call the«complimentary» blow dry which apparently is supposed to accompany the colour. Guess he wasn’t going to check the colour. Once i had half dry and half wet hair with horrible bangs he said okay and expected me to leave. I then asked him for a brush so I could brush down frizzy style he had created for me. I did not ask him to style it for me. I did not say that colour was splatterd on «my person» I said AROUND. Review your tape and watch as it flings on the table infront and on the cover you put over clients, at one point he scrapes it off with his hands and applies to my hair. Funny how your«video» doesn’t capture this. Also, my colour is already fading. I waited 2 full days before washing and I use salon brand shampoo for colour treated hair. This negative commentary is my first because I have never had such horrible service. I was actually near tears as I left the salon. I did not complain bc the hair colourist was at the station behind the reception desk watching me which made me uncomfortable(he was dealing with a client but paying attention to what i was doing). I specifically chose not to tip. A tip is when you have good service. It is not a requirement. I was not happy with the service. I refuse to tip when I am about to leave somewhere feeling like I was never welcome there to begin. It’s your opinion that it is not socially correct, just like it’s my opinion mentioning so is also not socially correct. Would you find it okay to ask for a tip to my face? Your offer for a refund is appreciated, however, given your«non-apology“apology and attempt to portray me as a liar I do not feel comfortable coming into your salon. An apology that was not full of excuses would have convinced me to return with a different stylist, I do not deny that your other stylists seemed friendly and that your clientele looked happy but this was not my experience and I have I will share it!
