Rideau Tennis Club

I am a winter member and play indoors1−2 times per week. The courts are adequate, but there are better in Ottawa. The footprint is tight so there is limited room behind the baselines and on the sides of the end courts. Also the courts are just a little too close together. Because of the tight layout the bubble encroaches in on what would normally be playing space. The lighting is not the best and at times fixtures are out of alignment or not working. There are large electrical boxes and cables around the net poles, it makes it difficult to change ends and they are easy to trip over, very poor design. The walkways from the clubhouse to the bubbles are unpaved paths, often flooded, icy, or muddy. Parts of the clubhouse are OK but I would not under any circumstances recommend using the men’s locker room, really awful. On the one occasion when I played outdoors during the summer season I noticed that the grounds, pool, and fencing looked rather shabby and in need of paint, basic maintenance and some repair. Overall I don’t get the sense that they put any money into this place. On the plus side the staff are very nice, teaching pros are good, and they have good programs and events. Don’t think I will join again in the future.

The property is very nice — the tennis courts are located beside the bike path along the Rideau River, and just up from that is the parking lot and gate to the «Clubhouse».
The Clubhouse is a really great venue for large group events. I came here in the summer to attend a wedding ceremony and reception. The building is very appealing, with a classy but down-​home kind of feel. When you walk in, there are a couple of sofa chairs in the front, the desk and bathrooms are down the hall to the left, and the bar and event room are to the right. The bar was small, but it had a pretty good selection of beer, wine, and liquor. The event room is quite large, with enough room for many tables and chairs, as well as a hardwood dancefloor and a space for a live band or DJ booth, and even a podium with a microphone.
The service is great, and so is the food. All the servers and staff were very friendly and professional, making sure to pass around the hors d’oeuvres, serve the dishes, and clear the tables in a timely manner. The food was all very tasty and high-​quality. It was a great time and I’d definitely go back!
