I had about 2hs before my greyhound arrived so I decided to walk on Bank Street to find a place for diner. I walked by this small korean/japanese restaurant and decided to give it a try. As I walked in, I was immediately seated but had to wait about 10 mins for a glass of water and even longer to have my order taken. The food arrived at a reasonable speed and the staff seemed nice but they basically forgot about me after I received my order. I chose the beef bibimbap(originally wanted chicken which was one of the 3 choices, but they were all out apparently) and it was, to say the least, disappointing. The amount of ground beef was minime and simply buried underneath bland vegetables, white rice and an egg. The portions weren’t actually very big, but I still couldn’t finish the whole thing as it was too lacking in flavor. I only tried one thing, but in my opinion, if the bibimbap isnt good, its definitely not a good sign for the other korean dishes. I dont think Ill come back unfortunately, only maybe if many people suggest to me their japanese side of the menu.

Ordered fried udon for lunch, love it! Their food is clean and good, cant say how Korean it is, but good enough for me.

Walked by this restaurant for so many times and finally went in for dinner! The food here was average Korean and Japanese food with limited choices. We had a dinner box and Bibimbap. They were ok but not really special. It will be a good place to go for a cheap lunch, but def not an ideal place for a dating dinner.

Mediocre place, mediocre food, slowest service ever. I was going to write a longer review detailing all the small things that were not good about this place, but it just isn’t worth the effort. If you want bad korean/japanese food because you think that somehow makes it more authentic, then this is the place for you. If you want good food, go elsewhere.

We came into Miga and was greeted by a korean man who was extremely polite. The place mats were pretty cool, they had english words translated into korean for you to use. My friends and I ordered the spicy chicken dish, galbi beef dinner bento box, the bulgogi, and the salmon sashimi donburi. All in all the meal was really yummy, however it was over priced for what it was.

Oh man, this place will forever be ingrained in my head as the absolute worst restaurant experience ever. They must hold the world’s record for the SLOWEST service. 1.75 hours for 3 rice dishes and a udon? Not only that, but upon [finally] receiving our items, they conveniently forgot 2 of our dishes… hmm. The bowls of rice are not even fresh from a cooker, it’s stored in a fridge by the cashier! The sketchiness holds no bounds. The server had the audacity to claim that the poor service was due to being«busy» and«all of the people» in the restaurant. 4 tables, averaging 2 people each, is not a lot. What a joke, and talk about over priced! A good rule of thumb for judging the authenticity of a Korean restaurant is the presence, or in this case absence, of Korean patrons. That should have been a red flag from the beginning. An absolute travesty to Korean cuisine. If this is a 3.5 star restaurant for Ottawa, y’all are in my prayers — seriously.

Walking down Bank on our way to Dolsot Café, we spot Miga across the street just before hitting Gladstone. Always up for new adventures(and mostly avoiding blocks more of walking in the cold), we decided to give this restaurant a try. I ordered the pork cutlet(tonkatsu) — $ 16 after looking at a picture on the wall, and bf had the miga galbi(sizzling ribs) -$ 18. We had the seafood pajeon to start — $ 8. The price for portion ratio is definitely not what we’re used to at most Korean restaurants… but we refused to colour our judgment until the food came at least. After all, price is really only an issue when you think you didn’t get what you paid for. The seafood pajeon was good — crispy, but mostly vegetables, other than some squid here and there. Both of the main dishes came with rice, although only mine came with miso. The lady serving us gave my bf a bowl of soup anyway, which was really nice of her. When the galbi came, it looked good — it was fresh and sizzling on the plate. Upon closer inspection, however, I think you can say that for $ 18, they were really skimping out on the meat. My tonkatsu looked nothing like the picture on the wall, which was disappointing enough in itself. But then, it was dry too, and overcooked, which made the experience that much more miserable. Service was alright(it wasn’t busy at all and the lady who served us made herself scarce for the most part.). Overall a pretty disappointing meal for us, especially with the ~60 $ tab after tax and tip. I suppose this teaches us to make no shortcuts and walk ALLTHEWAY to Dolsot Café next time. Learn from our mistake folks!

Always great service! Even if you’re getting take-out, you’ll get offered a drink while you wait. Strongly recommend the gyoza and the yaki udon.

Came here because my family and I wanted good ol’ Korean food, there wasn’t too many Asian choices near the hotel we were staying in so we walked here in the hopes of finding good Korean food. What to expect –It’s a medium sized restaurant with an ample amount of tables. It’s very casual and you can sit anywhere you’d like. –FRIENDLY wait staff, there were 2 women serving us, one university student who spoke to us a lot and ensured food was to our liking and the other seemed to be a manager who just brought us food and even comforted a toddler in the restaurant who was crying. –Took a little over 10 minutes to serve all our food, quick service! –The walk to the washrooms is a bit creepy, in the dark basement. What I ate –Beef bulgogi was definitely not authentic as it was more like a stir-fry with mushrooms and broccoli. Rice came with it and was the sticky calrose type. –Also ordered some type of starchy soup which was a little bland –Also ordered a beef donburi, pretty much bulgogi on top of rice but with a fried egg. –Last but not least we tried a maki roll, which was not the best I’ve had but passable. –We had to ORDER tea?! It seems so odd for a Korean restaurant to not have complimentary tea. Come here if you are craving Korean/Japanese food. I’m not sure if there are better Korean restaurants in Ottawa though.

I feel really bad giving this place only two stars, but I can’t bring myself to give it any more. I went on a Wednesday for lunch. The service was too slow — we were there for over an hour which is too long for a weekday launch, and I had to rush through my main meal which came in the last 15 – 20 minutes of that time. The food itself, I was not crazy about. I ordered the seafood udon soup which had a lot mussels in it, but not much else. One mussel definitely tasted off. I will let y’all know if I’m puking tomorrow! I found one ring of squid(about a cm wide) and 3 tiny, rehydrated shrimp. The zucchini, a new world fruit, seemed oddly out of place in the dish. The broth was ok, but not flavourful and it smelled a lot better than it tasted. The noodles were lackluster and too soft. My companion ordered the salmon stir fry bento box(lunch special). His only comment at the end was that he did not feel sated. To me, it looked like a reasonable amount of food, but the piece of salmon was woefully small and not at all like the photo. Most of the substance in the box was rice. Aside from the slow service, though, our waitress was friendly and pleasant and that’s why I feel bad giving the place two stars. Honestly, someone with a more traditionally refined palate might enjoy the flavours, but even so I can’t get past the wimpy portions and flat-tasting food. I would go again some day, but I certainly wouldn’t rush to go back.

Had walked by this place a few moments earlier then felt I needed to go back and try it out. I am so very glad I did. The bibimbap was delicious, the sun shining, the service attentive, the kim chi spicy, and the meal just perfect.

Slow and clumsy service! We were there during the heatwave and we couldn’t stand it there while we waited over a half an hour for a simple bulgogi and spicy pork. Drenched with sweat I asked for it to go. We were shocked to see the lunch we paid $ 45 for. The hodduk(hot cake) was chewy like gum. The portions were tiny and I’ve had much better food from a street vendor. The worst part was the kimchi. They gave us perhaps a teaspoon’s worth and it was gross.

I was getting together with my friend for lunch at the Whalesbone on Sunday only to see the sign saying the place is closed for lunch on weekends. We were both a little bummed but agreed to go get some sushi and wanted to go to the place on Slater which btw I don’t know the name of! We walked down Bank St to Slater and passed a few Japanese restaurants on the way there and took note of them to maybe try the next time we went out. Once we got to Slater we found out that the sushi restaurant was closed and decided to try the one on Slater and Bank. When we got to Bank St we noticed that they were closed as well! We started our walk back down towards Gladstone(we parked here) and I remembered there was Joy on Somerset. We went there and they were also closed! As we got closer to Gladstone we saw Miga and decided to try give it a try. We sat down and were seated immediately. There was nobody here so the waitress let us know we could sit anywhere. It’s got a nice feel to it. We ended up ordering some shrimp tempura, mixed roll, salmon sashimi and california rolls. We were brought a spring roll appetizer that wasn’t really that good. We were then brought the salmon sashimi and shrimp tempura. The salmon looked kind of weird and when we tried it, it was frozen in the middle! The shrimp tempura was ok though. I wish it was a little hotter. We were brought a bowl of miso soup after the appetizers and I couldn’t drink it. It tasted really really really salty. I had about 2 spoons of it and put it to the side. When we got the california rolls and the mixed rolls I was glad to see that they used short grain rice unlike a lot of the other places in town. The california roll was ok but I found the fish seemed really unfresh and that’s usually what makes or breaks a sushi place for me. Our server was a sweetheart though!

My cousin and I were in the mood for some sushi on a Friday night, so we decided to try Miga, as we heard about it from many friends. It was a pretty full house, but no one seemed to wait very long to be seated. My cousin ordered Jasmine tea and I ordered roasted rice tea, which both came in separate tea pots, not just cups. Our waiter told just right away that it was his first day, so we were patient with his speed and service throughout our meal. Although there was a fairly large selection of both Japanese and Korean food, we skipped to the sushi menu. We found the sushi and sashimi to be a bit expensive per piece, especially in comparison to similar restaurants in the Toronto region, so we stuck to maki rolls. My cousin ordered spicy shrimp rolls and I ordered rainbow rolls, as well as 2 pieces of uni(sea urchin). The uni was seasonal and it’s not commonly seen in too many sushi restaurants, so I was happy to see it on the menu. The rolls weren’t too tightly wrapped and had a purple color to them, but they tasted great and the fish was fresh. They also came with miso soup, kimchi, wakame(seaweed) salad, sesame bean sprouts, and a small bowl of translucent noodles. We didn’t order of this, but in our experience, many Korean-owned restaurants will give some of these extras complimentary. Our server forgot to give us small dishes for soy sauce, like the other tables had, but we didn’t see this as a very big deal, especially since our waiter was new. We didn’t end up finishing our rolls, so they were happy to pack them for us to take home. We also paid separately, and there was a minimum purchase to use debit($ 10 or $ 15), but the manager let my cousin use it anyway.

After a long day riding bikes around my bf and I wanted something very hearty. We quickly found Miga on Bank Street. An order of bibimbap and codfish stew and we were all set. They don’t serve a large array of ban chan but it was enough for two people. It included some kimichi, radishes, sweet potato and bean sprouts. The bibimbap was really great, make sure you order it in the pot so you can stir everything together. The codfish stew was so satisfying on a day with fall weather, the flavor was really seafoody. I just wished they could make it a bit spicier. I think NYC is spoiled by all the great Korean restaurants and compared to those, Miga doesn’t stand a chance but Miga is good if you are craving Korean. Service was very good. They also have a large array of Japanese meals on their menu.

Miga is a great place! I have had the vegetarian sushi and it was excellent. However, I am a bulgogi fan and I think it is really good here. The food has the feel of being home cooked and well done too. Service is polite, friendly and quick.

My wife and I lived in Korea for years and, while traveling around Asia, fell in love with many Asian dishes. We are always on the lookout for good Asian food(especially our favourite Korean dish — takalbi!) and pop into random Asian restaurants we find to see what they offer. We found Miga one afternoon while we were wandering around the Promenade district of Bank Street, just north of the 417. Miga offers a selection of Japanese(sushi, udon noodles) and Korean dishes(bulgogi, chap chai). We talked to the young waitress to see if they also served takalbi. She said they didn’t. But, the old ajuma(older woman) who worked in the kitchen said that she would make it special for us! That is the kind of place Miga is — authentic food made by the experts, who love to cook for people for people who appreciate good Asian cuisine. If you like Asian food, you must make a date with Miga!
