I live next door so I have been here through the highs and lows, but I am so glad this place has truly grown into its own. I tried Mia’s in its first week open to the public and told my neighbours«Wow, this Chef Mia knows sauces!» It has had some missteps in the beginning, but got over all of them and now does steady business for a reason — I know, because I am the lingering, observant diner(and neighbour). I am of Hungarian descent, so I am used to mild paprika but not real heat; my family and my South American friends all love to say«spice is for depth of flavour, not heat.» When it comes to their mild dishes, they seem to agree: there’s not a speck of heat in anything mild. A lot of the dishes could even be kid-safe, if they are not afraid of the different tastes and colours(though there is one particular dish Mia’s recommends for kids). If you order a medium though, the spice jumps up a lot. I sometimes order two orders –mild and medium– for takeout and mix the two in a serving dish. My family’s must-have orders are fish tikka, beef saag and veggie korma with plain naan for the entrée’s sauces and pashwari naan for dessert(though we like all of their desserts, it’s just the peshwari is unique from others we’ve tried). We always order a fourth dish that changes but so many are good: eggplant bharti, any curry, josh rogan… I’ve gone vegetarian or vegan for friends, no problem. And, FYI, the mango drink another reviewer was raving about is mango lassi, which is definitely the best lassi there!

My husband and I just moved to the city and thought we would try this place since it is so close to our home. We ordered takeout: butter chicken and lamb madras with an appetizer plate and rice and naan. First off, they said our order would arrive in 30 – 45 minutes. An hour and ten minutes later we called and we’re told it was on its way. The appetizer platter was delicious but cold when it arrived. The curries were very disappointing. The butter chicken tasted like tomato soup with pumpkin pie spice in it– very bland and flavorless save for unnecessary sugar added. The lamb madras was also very bland, and even though it was hot there was no flavour. The only saving grace was that the portions and the amount of meat are quite generous and the lamb was very tender. I have eaten Indian food all across Canada and this has been one of the most disappointing meals I’ve ever had.

I have been here three times so far. Once with a friend during lunch time, once with my beau and once for take out. All were good experiences. I reccomend the samosas to start with because they are delicous. The food was delicous and the portions were great. The waiter was friendly and it’s a really great halal restaurant.

Practically all my life the spot occupied by Mia was a Kentucky Fried Chicken and I guess I had trouble accepting that it was gone because it took a long time before I went inside to check out the new resident business. It was almost strange going in there and finding an Indian restaurant and not a KFC, but I finally took the plunge so i could find out if the great reviews from friends had merit. I ordered the Beef Curry for takeout, and I found the staff friendly and happy. The decorations are simple but things are clean. I went on a weekday and there were just a couple of people inside around 2pm. I brought my takeout boxes to Britannia Bay Park with a plan to eat on a picnic table. I set up my table with a pickup soccer game in front of me, and a coke beside my aluminum pan takeout container. One of my favourite food combinations is a coke with spicy food and I was very eager now. I opened it up and the food was neatly packed in thirds of rice, chickpeas/vegetables, and curried beef chunks. Everything was really good and I could tell the ingredients were fresh. It just wasn’t spicy enough for me though so next time I go I will have to ask for a little more hot stuff in there. That’s just my tastes though, and I will definitely go back sometime.

Visiting family down the street from here and what a find. You can tell the family who owns the restaurant really takes care with their food and service. The food was delicious, fresh and beautifully prepared. Seems to be a really popular takeout place too. Highly recommend!

What’s better than spending New Year’s eve out partying your face off? Why, cuddling up in bed with your loved one, watching a movie and eating takeout! While deciding what to eat on our big night in, we decided to order in one of our favourite dishes — butter chicken. I’ve driven past Mia’s a several times in the last few months as it’s on our way to Westboro. There’s a big sign outside that;s easily visible from Woodroffe and Richmond that says«Delivery and Takeout» which got me excited since it’s so hard to find decent Indian sots that deliver in our ‘hood. Alas, I didn’t want to get my hopes up too much — a yummy Indian place that delivers? Only five minutes from our apartment? Impossible! Alas my friends, I was proven wrong! This was AWESOME butter chicken. The chicken was a really nice cut — no grisel or fat to speak of. Only perfect chunks of perfectly flavoured chicken. The sauce itself was perfect in my opinion, though the boyfriend thought it could have been creamier. I loved the spices — they tasted so fresh and vibrant! The rice was great as well — really perfectly cooked with yummy seasoning as well. To top it all off the garlic Na’an bread was out of this world. Chewy, but not undercooked, REALLY garlicy and crispy on the bottom. SO good. The delivery guy was super friendly as well, and chatted about how busy they were on their first New Year’s and how packed the restaurant was. I really hope this place stays open, and I can’t wait to dine in sometime soon.
