Made a point of going to Leroy’s out in the more western part of town, buried in a commercial area just off the highway. Parking in the area is a bear — so wear walking shoes just in case you have to walk a block or two. Got there around 12:45 or so — just in time. We got his last single order of Chicken and Waffles, along with an order of fries, cole slaw, beans and corn bread. Heaven. Everything was delicious with the cole slaw counter balancing the sweetness of everything else. I wasn’t sure what to expect of something called Chicken and Waffles — but think breakfast waffle with tasty perfectly cooked chicken on top. Truly — this doesn’t sound exciting in writing, but it’s fantastic. Fries made it easily into my top 5 fries list — dark and crispy and greasy — my husband had a hard time getting his fair share. He has a few other items on his menu we want to try(Party Fries, Deep South) so we’ll be back! One thing to think about: His audience is primarily people who work in the area — so there’s no seating. We walked up the street and sat at a picnic table outside of a business, but I wonder how long it will take for unfriendly signs to show up to the effect of «tables for use of employees only». Be prepared to perch on a stone wall, or curb or go to your car to eat. Also no garbage containers to be seen. :-\ He does show up on weekends in other spots, so if the parking and seating situation is a turn off, maybe watch for one of those opportunities. Leroy doesn’t seem to be reliably using the StreetFood App, so best way to find him is on Twitter, for hours and location. Would I recommend: Yes Woudl I return: Definately — can’t wait.

This I think is the fifth food truck I’ve tried in the past couple of weeks. Leroy’s is one of Ottawa’s new food trucks for 2013 and as they just recently opened, it seems they aren’t yet offering their full menu(what is found on their web site) but it seems everything will be offered in a couple of weeks. With that said, here are some details. Location: Leroy’s is located on Courtwood Crescent at the corner of Woodward Drive. As per the map, Courtwood intersects Woodward twice and they are on the corner of the eastern intersection(the one further away from Maitland). Parking: Ah, parking. One would think that there would be a lot of parking in this neighborhood but actually, there isn’t. You can’t park on Woodward Drive so that means parking on Courtwood. Unfortunately, due to the number of businesses around here, parking can be limited. I was able to find a spot today(at around 1:30pm) but yesterday when I tried(around 11:30am), there were no spots. As such, it can be hit or miss if you find something close or if you want to walk. Seating: There is no seating at this location at this time. I don’t know if they plan on adding any but since they are on a street corner I can’t see where they would get the space. You may be able to sit on the lawn in front of the food truck but it may be private property. Menu: As mentioned above, as it just opened, they are not offering their full menu yet. I was looking forward to trying their chicken with a side of beans and cornbread and some cornbread rum cake for dessert but I guess I’ll have to wait for that. Instead, I tried their one piece chicken and side combo which allowed you either mac and cheese or fries(I went with the mac and cheese). All in all, the food wasn’t bad(chicken was good and nicely breaded) but I really want to try out their other dishes. Other: Since the place just opened and as I tried to go there yesterday and they weren’t there(apparently they had run out of propane and weren’t operating that day), I strongly suggest checking out their twitter feed to know if they will be open on the day you want to go. Twitter account:
Since the menu is limited right now, I’ll rate them as 3 stars until I’ve had the chance to try their other menu items. I hope it will be as good as it sounds.
