Since this is what you might call our neighborhood bar, I always think we should give it a try. And every time we do(about once annually) I’m reminded why we really don’t bother with it. There are two redeeming things: Staff are always super nice — and the décor since the redecoration is quite pleasant. But that’s it! There’s nothing great about the food and the beer is made up of a pretty pedestrian selection of national brands. They had one beer on draft that sounded interesting — Keith’s Galaxy Hop Ale, so of course I ordered it. They were out! That left me with choices like Canadian, Blue etc. — very middle of the road choices. I ordered cider instead. :-\ For food, we ordered a bread/goat cheese/peppers concoction. It was ok. Doughy white break with a sugary sauce. So two beers and an appetizer. With tax and tip it was about $ 45, simply not worth it.(We can have a fantastic meal and 2 beers elsewhere in the city for the same price and be much happier with the result.) One note: This can be a decent place to watch a sporting event — tends to be a dinner crowd, so by the time the games are on, there’s lots of seating. Skip the food, and keep your beer expectations low. Would I return: It’s walking distance to my house, so on occasion yes, probably if we want a beer out on a game night. Would I recommend: Not really. If you aren’t in the neighborhood, find something better. Even if your are in the neighborhood, there’s better places for food within a block or so of here. Unilocal them. Honestly, there’s an opportunity waiting for some restaurateur in Alta Vista — we really need a great joint, preferably over by Three Sisters. Please!

Kelsey’s is pretty much your typical American chain restaurant. I’ve been to this location a couple times now, but I’ll comment on my most recent experience. We came for lunch on a Monday and the place was pretty much empty. We got seated immediately and drinks came quickly too.(I think the guys were pretty disappointed that many of the beers they preferred weren’t available that day though.) There is a good variety of foods on the menu itself — sandwiches, burgers, pastas, nachos, pizza, wings, quesadillas, etc. Most of our table got salads, burgers and sandwiches and we were all stuffed from the huge portions. The food was good, but not anything that special. Decent food, decent price. Sadly the server forgot I requested no goat’s cheese in my burger, so I spent a lot of time picking it out. *sad face* Service was fine at all the other times; they even expedited the food for our friend that came late. The restaurant’s décor and atmosphere is decent — there’s a good sized bar with lots of tvs, lots of tables inside and a patio on the outside. It’s not a place I would crave, but it’s also not a place I would skip. Yay Kelsey’s? Tip — Sign up online and you’ll get a printout coupon for a free dessert.(Make sure you print it out though; I tried it on my phone and I was disappointed I couldn’t get free brownie pops. *insert second sad face*). They also have free wifi, but you need a Kelsey’s account — too much of a hassle in my opinion.

Overall, the experience was okay. But, I don’t have a craving to return. The service was good, but the food was lacking. The menu is extremely diverse however it does not deliver on the promise. The Philly Cheese Steak was by no way, a Philly Cheese Steak, it was an embellished Beef Dip.

This had to have been my single, worst experience at any restaurant, ever. I went there recently with my dad, sat down and waiting almost 15 minutes for the waitress to grace us with her presence. Then after ordering a meal, waiting another 40 minutes for burgers to arrive. Then, while in mid conversation, interrupts my dad, to say something assine about what we were talking about. I know right? While I’ve had bad experiences before at a restaurant, and its certainly a common occurance at Kelsey’s. I’ve done something I’ve never done before, and thats walk out without giving a tip.
